  1. Haha, same as me, KYB and VOGTLAND.. I find them really floaty at the front, more so than standard!!

It may be because you have the 6cyl spring and I have the 4cyl.. Just a theory

Mine aren't floaty at all.. compared to what im used to anyway. I find them quite stiff. Your more than welcome to have a spin to see what you think, I MAY be in auckland on the weekend with the car.

  2. Looks sh*t hot, has come down nicely.

What springs did you end up using in the front?? Im not happy with mine.

    What car was granny driving.

I used a vogtland spring in the front as well as the back, ended up using a 4cyl spring at the front to get it that low. And I chose KYB shocks, in my opinion they are pretty good for what I paid!

Fortunately granny wasnt in our group

Nice pics. Shame about that Falcon creeping into a couple though!

Yea bit of an upset, old falcons are like stains in carpet... You cant make em go away and they stick out like dogs bollocks :D

  3. Heres a few pics that were taken on sunday. Met up with a few of the Hamilton guys and drove out to Horahora and parked up, beautiful weather and good drive back to town through the twisty back roads!! It was my first big drive with the new shocks and springs. Car handles alot better and rides a little bit lower than before. All thanks to Keith at H&R, big cheers go to Keith for awesome service!

  5. hey mate

i have a 90 325 and i have got koni adjustable shocks all round and cobra springs with a higher spring rate but they were 50mm lower in the front and 40mm lower in the back. with the shocks on full hard it is really stiff like race car stiff. i think the set up is great because you can have it on soft for round town and turn to hard for some fun. also have nolathane bushs in front and rear. hope that helps

I like the idea of those shocks, how much are they worth? I want to go at least 50mm lower. Does cobra do a 50-60mm spring?

New suspension bushes will help alot too if yours are old.

I recently did Control arms, 22F\19R mm swaybars with mounts & reinforcements, subframe, trailing arms and billet rear shocks mounts. All Ireland engineering stuff. Im also running H&R\Bilstein sport combo, transformed the car, ride is firm but not harsh and still very comfortable.

Sounds expensive! How much if you dont mind me asking?

May have to come and see your car and go for a ride so I know what its like.

    Cheers for the comments guys

  6. Hey guys, Im lookin at doing some suspension work on my 1988 325i Touring and I need some advice.

I want to lower it and make it alot stiffer, it has quite alot of body roll at the moment and is a bit boat-like. It has motorsport springs in the back, but I dont know what is in the front.

Is the suspension the same in the tourings as it is in the sedans?

Coilovers VS Lowering springs and new shocks, which is better, how hard is it to do coilovers and how much more do they cost.

Is it better to compress standard springs or get new springs?

Which brand does a good spring?

How much am I lookin at roughly?

Any other suggestions would be good!

    Cheers, Jason

  7. Thanks everyone, I understand now!

Ive come to the conclusion that I wont be having HIDs!

Ive tried the bulbs with filaments that claim to be the same as HID. They were CRAP, yes they had a whitey blue colour but they put out absolutely no light, they were useless.

  8. Ok so I'm a complete n00b when it comes to HID lights. All I know is that I want that bluey/white colour in my headlights! So I'm really hoping someone will be able to help me out here.

What is the difference between HID and normal bulbs?

Why is it bad to run HID bulbs in normal headlights?

What does it take to convert normal headlights to HID headlights?

Ive seen the HID conversion kits on trademe, is that all you need?

Will these kits work with the normal headlight lenses?

Are the trademe kits any good?

Aside from the different colour do HIDs have any advantage on normal bulbs?

Is it really worth doing the conversion?

Oh, these are for a facelift E30 if that makes any difference.

    Thanks people!

  9. You wouldn't think that if you saw all 12 cars on my back lawn at the moment? :D

    Poor wee things..

Im absolutely stoked with the way it looks on these wheels, wouldnt have it any other way.

But dont worry the wheels are the only non-pure thing I will be doing to this car, I still want it to be a BMW not a H***A!!!!

  10. Thats lookin fantastic! I love the tourings and was my first choice but I got impatient and went for a sedan!

Like the new wheels also, they suit it.

    Nice find!

Thanks for that, I'm glad you like the wheels! I was hoping I would get that reaction from people instead of the "oh no put your weaves back on youve killed it"

  11. It has stock msport springs which are lower than standard. Will had some lower springs in it, but Alison didn't like them so he put the msport ones in.

Your right bravo, motorsport springs in the back. But I dont think thats the case in the front, its a bit lower at that end and the springs are very soft compared to the back.

  12. So Will finally sold the old girl! I'm a neighbour of Wills but didn't realise it had sold as I havn't been over for a couple of weeks. Its an awesome car. He did ALOT of work to it.

I remember when he first got it, it needed a little TLC. I fondly remember going sideways in it out of the Carters carpark in Waipapa on one of its first voyages. It has been pampered ever since as he bought it for his wife as a daily, but she got sick of the difficult boot access compared to an e36 touring which is her new daily.

Enjoy it - its the nicest and quickest e30 touring I've ridden in.

Will and I were actually talking about you when I was up there when I got the car. Sounds like you have a very nice car.

I agree, Will has created a very nice car - all it needs now is my own personal touches.

Id beleive that, it goes sideways quite happily, although havnt done this with the new 18's on it. The rubber is a bit to expensive to be burning!

Alisons new E36 is a very nice car, she seemed very pleased with it.

    Thanks for your comments :D

  13. Nice wagon, so envious of the factory 2.5 engine, im guessing it’s an import then?

Upgrading the stock system is hard without making new holes. Im running 51/4 inch components in the front and Ceflar 4†2 ways in the back witch are both amped and with the sub box removed they really struggle to produce any decent bass.

If you’re up in Auckland at some stage im more than happy to show you my system and give you some tips as to where to mount an amp.

I would recommend a boxed set of 6x9’s if your after a decent sound without an amp or a sub.

As for lowering, talk to Keith at suspension progress (our forum sponsor) he sorted mine out, you need to run a wagon specific set up.

Yea imported from the UK in 1994.

Id love to have a chat about what I can do with sounds, I'll keep you in mind!

I emailed Keith a while ago but got no reply. Will try again another time! I need to get it lowered and stiffened up!
