  1. Hi Guys,

Check out the following Youtube video I've made on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3jqkbqU-vI&feature=youtu.be

Car broke down last weekend - dumped a whole heap of coolant. 2 weeks prior I had a brand new radiator installed. Not sure what would cause this. A mechanic friend of mine seems to think the engine has seized and blown head gasket but I'm not quite sure on that...

Any info is greatly appreciated if she is repairable ( without putting a new engine in )...

  2. Hi Guys,

Well it sucks to say that I'm pretty sure my engine has seized on me yesterday. Had a friend of mine that's a BMW mechanic look at it and seems like head gasket is done and engine won't turn over at all which is an utter shame!

The funny thing is, brand new radiator was installed 2 weeks prior along with major service.

So... To sell as rolling body? Car has 149kms, Wof'd till 2016 and reg till end of this year. I personally would love to throw a new engine in her but that won't make sense as I'm leaving NZ in 2 months for the UK.

I'll be getting a detailed breakdown of the issue tomorrow.

Any idea how much a rolling body would fetch? She's a 2002 Silver E39 Motorsport 530i.

    So gutted about this!!!

  3. Do a new video and give it a little rev to say 2500, also rev and hold ... sounds like the DISA valve rattling .. but hard to tell from that short video ... Could be a bearing of some sort.

Here is a video I did ages a go on replacing the DISA in a m54b30 on my old 330.

    Thanks Hybrid!

I think you could be bang on with this because over the past month I've notice the throttle not being as responsive as what it was.

    I'll post another video shortly.

  4. Hi Guys,

So this morning I turn my car on and a weird sound is coming from the engine.

Never heard it before and she's not sounding healthy, engine light has come on - I checked the water and it was running quite low. Decided to top it up and I've discovered a crack in my radiator ( joy ) so that's no biggie but I'm quite concerned about this sound.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is my engine bung??

Here is a short video on the issue: https://youtu.be/uveUX3B62CU

  5. Sounds Good Jordy, We might have something to talk about. I myself am Planing to leave for good by next year.

I have done repairs like that myself, with much success, I have a friend up north who's a panel beater too, Hes name is Steve, look up his listing on trademe. But it may be a bit far for you, what I would do then would be, 1 take the bumper off, inspect the damage, then the damage to the fender you can simply heat up and pop out, use some rubbing and polish compound to remove as much as the scratches you can, then the bumper I guess you can grab a cheap swap one or just take it to an independent body shop, cant be more then a few hundred bucks to repair it. Or just cut groves, use a plastic welding gun, use small cable ties, and then body filler and all it will need is a respray touch up, that is if you want to.

Doesn't look like a repair thats worth more then $500 to spend on.

    Cheers for the info Hyde!

Might catch you in the UK next year :-)

  6. Given the price these are selling for these days it'd be a 50/50 decision for me. If you spent the excess would you be able to get that back on resale or would you be better off selling as is. Depends how much your already into the car financially.

If it's your OE and you dont need the money from the car why not put the rego on hold and park it in someones garage till you get back?

I'll be gone for around 3 years - 2 years in UK / Europe then 1 year divided across the states the asia.

I'm wanting to buy a bike when I get back as I miss them too much - kinda need the money going on the trip too! The NZD to GBP isn't the best!

  7. Small repairs really, Pop out the bumper, have a body shop do it for you, do some cut and polish, but to be honest, you can just sell it here to a fellow member and they should understand and take it as it is, unlike trademe, where you will get a lot of tire kickers for smaller imperfections as these.

Are you moving to UK permanently?

Yeah I've had the experience you're talking about with TM as I tried selling last year ( before had planned trip ) and people offering me 2k for it - told them to take a hike.

    Not permanently, it's my OE!

  8. Hi Guys,

Come September I'm leaving NZ for the U.K and sadly than means my beloved needs to go.

She has a bit of damage on her though and I'm unsure whether or not to fork out the 1.6k excess on insurance to get her fixed up in hopes that I'll keep more on resale or just sell as is??

Here are some pics of the damage.

It's a 2002 530i Motorsport - it has a few options you normally wouldn't find on a model like this, sunroof, 16:9 display, msport wheel etc, done 149k

    Thoughts?

  9. The E39 MUST have a decent battery, otherwise they can have a fair few weird issues.

If the starter is clicking (ie power to the solenoid, and the main live) when you try to crank, that suggests a starter fault.

If you don't get clicking, it can be any number of things, and a scan MAY help identify something, such as an intermittant key code issue (which leaving the battery off overnight can SOMETIMES help).

Second this re the battery, my car was doing some funky stuff last year - replaced battery and all was fine again.

  10. Is the car making a clicking noise when you try starting it?

If you are getting a clicking sound then that's good - don't recharge your current battery just replace with a new one.

This could also be another solution:

    Try this too:

  11. Hi all

I would like some help to get my money back from a current member that does sell things on here on a regular basis.

I know that the forum rules state no personal issues or the like.

However I have tried with multiple pms over the past two weeks.

He just doesn't send any replies.

Now I know it's only $60, but it's not right when I pay for some thing on the same day im quoted a price, then he confirms receipt of money and then the item changes to a different one, which he does not ship, and then he promises refund and asks for my bank details... As soon as I supply bank details the correspondence stops...

    Any help would be appreciated.

And if you are reading this, then pls process my refund. A month is too long...

I don't like to name and shame but I will if I have to.

    Thanks in advance

    :)

Simply put, sh*t happens - as you say it's only $60 so I doubt you're losing sleep over it especially if you own a BMW.

Let karma do it's thing and know to be cautious of who you purchase from :-)
