  1. Hi Guys,

    Title is pretty self explanatory.

    What's more economical? I currently have a 2003 E39 530i Motorsport.

I always fill with 95 and a full tank is around $150 to get 500 or so k's out of. That's not really economical if I'm honest and I know it's a heavy car / doesn't like sitting in traffic as it sucks the gas.

So with the more modern E60 shape and iDrive - are they more economical to maintain?

I have been considering ditching the car for something still fun / cheaper to maintain. A Subaru WRX or a Mazda Axela.

  2. Hi team,

Had a problem this morning. Started the car up, but 10 seconds later it dropped revs and then cut out. It wouldn't start after that, I would turn the key and it would just keep turning over and not fire up.

I've had the car about 6 months now, ever since i've had it I would get a rough/lumpy/shaky idle for the first few mins of driving. So i'd pull up to traffic lights and it would do it, but eventually go away (almost like its warmed up). Usually worse on colder mornings.

The prev owner said he had done the CCV/CVV and also replaced spark plugs, so that could maybe rule them out the spark plugs still? Maybe I should check the plugs anyway. What about coils???

I also cleaned the MAF and ICV earlier in the year trying to solve my idle problem so those should be sweet.

    Hey mate,

The issue is your ignition coils - I've had the same issue before - replaced mine and the car ran perfectly again.

Ray from HellBM helped me with this - did a scan etc - good guy!

  3. Hey guys,

So I tried getting into the headlights on the weekend and this proved to be impossible... managed to remove them from the car, applied the heat gun and being cautious tried to remove the plastic headlight cover and no luck.

Is there anyone on here that can help me install the parts I have for this as I NEED to get a WOF asap for the car.

    Will happily pay $$

I am in the Auckland / Parnell region.

  4. these are what you need. they are plastic and with the headlight heat they get brittle and can break.

The headlight is a sealed unit. You need to open and replace. You can either cut and -reseal or bake and pull open.

Then you will need to ensure you have sealed them properly again.

Considering the cost of a replacement headlight is like $900 i sent mine to BMW to get fixed.

How much did BMW charge you to get them done?

  5. Hey Guys,

My headlight adjusters on my 2002 E39 530i are broken which is stopping me from passing a warrant.

Does anyone have any fixes or know anywhere I can take my car to get this sorted?

Had a look on youtube and the fixes are mostly for US E39's which are a little different to mine so not sure if those fixes will apply to my car.

    Any help is appreciated :-)

  6. In the past I've usually seen Owen Evan's but more recently the place across the road from my work, Hauraki Panel & Paint has been fantastic. Good service and competitive pricing.

Beauty! Thanks for this and even better as they are just down the road from me - parnell location.

    Thanks again! :-)

  7. Good stuff. Mine too (though there's always more to do). I replaced all the coils when I bought it and have now done all of the vacuum hoses and fixed oil leaks in the rocker cover gasket, oil level sensor and dipstick. Engine looks very tidy and is performing well though I wouldn't mind a bit of low end acceleration - most of my driving's around town so not too worried about top speed. Thinking of looking for a replacement diff with a higher ratio... But that's somewhere in the distant future.

Main focus at the moment is the interior. Need to put the original driver's seat back in so the correct memory module is there (to clear an airbag fault) and want to recolour (either restoring the black or to cinnamon) the leather.

All in all though, very happy with mine. She's looking (almost) new again!

Ah wow sounds like you've done a lot of work! I wonder how much difference this is between mine and yours re power... I can't imagine there would be a heap!

I'm so jelly of your headlights... they are so clear! I took the headlight cleaner kit to my car and it worked but needs more - especially now that I have new angel eye LED markers in there :-(

  8. No, I've got the standard armrest with no space for the cradle (and I've only got a 3GS!).

It looks very cool but I've got other priorities at the moment (like keeping the engine running!! haha).

Haha! Yeah I hear you on that one - not sure if you would have been following my posts for the past month but my car is finally running mint!

Replaced cylinder 4 engine coil and my god... I'm scared of how quick the thing is now lol

  9. Hey guys,

I need to change the coils in my car - engine light was on and did a scan - here is what returned:

    SAE Code P1349

    DTC Code 17757

Description Ignition Coil Power Output Stage 2 Open Circuit

    SAE Code P0300

    DTC Code 16684

    Description Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

    SAE Code P0313

    DTC Code 16697

Description Misfire Detected Low Fuel Level

    SAE Code P1342

    DTC Code 17750

Description Ignition Coil Power Output Stage 1 Short to B+

Can anyone recommend anywhere to get decent coils from or change of brand anything like that? I just need the parts - this is simple enough to do on my own.
