  1. Have found some paint and I'm owed a favour by a panelbeater so am just tossing up best approach. Boot is probably OK but bumper is too far gone. Just found one in the States for $500 landed which seems pretty good. You went down the 850i track I see, looks great! There's a nice left hooker at the building next to mine, just arrived a couple of months ago.
  2. Ha I disappear for a few weeks and I've missed all the action. Yep should've kept the Avus one, was a great car. I'm glad to hear he's minted it. Ray's deal was very tempting but add to that re-ringed Vanos units and swapping engines, it added up pretty quickly so decided to do shells with BM Workshop for a very reasonable price (Graeme has been fantastic once again). I'm happy to resurrect what is otherwise a good, low KM S62. Thanks all for your advice, I'm just looking forward to be driving one again. Need a new rear boot lid (Kiwi one) and front bumper if anyone knows of any sitting around.
  3. Thank you, might power up if anything though.
  4. I thought about that but apparently they're a bit problematic. Unlike the S62 of course.....
  5. Yep sump removed, indeed it is a crankshaft issue so that's why I'm thinking I might quit while I'm ahead and get a fresh motor. Have had a look overseas, bloody expensive.... Might concentrate on getting it looking pretty then re-visit motor issue.
  6. Hi guys, I sold my old Avus E39 last year but got the itch again a couple of months ago. Bought a low KM but but rough looking and running Silverstone one with huge potential. Got Vanos done by Graeme at BM Workshop and although that solved one problem (extremely well, he's a magician) it presented another one being a more guttural noise from within. Long story short, it looks like I can either do a repair with the risk of throwing a rod out the side of the block at any point or replace the motor. What I'd like to do is a find another S62 to drop in there. Problem is of course, I'm on a tight budget.... Does anyone of any S62s out there for a good price? Can do a good deal on jewellery in return (wife's a jeweller). How much would your mrs love you?? Not only are you selling an engine but you're getting her jewellery. Amazing opportunity! Cheers guys, Lachie
  7. Can't put pics up for some reason. Flick me your email and I'll send some through. Who's the OP?
  8. Hi guys, I asked about the clutch and flywheel set-up on the E39 a couple of months ago. The process was completed a couple of weeks ago. To do the clutch through a dealer, I was looking at $750 odd for the clutch (would've taken 3 weeks to arrive) and another $1,200 labour. After a lot of reading and deliberating, I decided to do the clutch only and leave the flywheel as it was. I got the LUK OEM clutch through Peninsula BM in Melbourne who got it here in 10 days from Germany, then got BM Workshop to install. Graham at BM Workshop was great. I asked for some pictures of the flywheel, and if it was buggered I was going to get one in. It was OK, but graham at BM Workshop sent it down the road to get machined (I didn't think this was possible, apparently it is). So, new clutch, machined flywheel, installed for just over $1,700. Clutch is strong and feels great at pace. Thanks for your input.
  9. I'm heading overseas for a few months and am tossing up whether to sell my M5 before I go. Let me know if you're interested - 99 M5 Avus Blue, mint, 136,000km, NZ New, full service, new clutch. I'd be very sorry to see her go, but may arrive home with an E60 Touring M5 instead...
  10. Hi there, I noticed a bit of clutch slippage yesterday after a decent blast down Kaipara Flats Road. I nursed her home and have been out for a brief drive this morning and can't feel anything (but haven't tried driving it hard just yet). Once the clutches start slipping, is it a foregone conclusion that it needs replacing? Also came out to a flat tyre this morning... Poor old girl's had a rough 24 hours. Help much appreciated. Lachie
  11. Yep if it wasn't for seeing a couple with 200+km still going strong and a full service history I wouldn't have touched it. Very glad I did. Yeah Battle of Rome is amazing, video is spectacular. Also keen to check out 32 Hours 7 Minutes (the movie he discusses in the book). I think it's out now, must order a copy. B7 RS4 for V8 Manual? - they do come with a distinct wank factor though I suppose.
  12. I'm part way through his book now. Ha, yes Team Polizei livery would be pretty awesome... Only reinforces the love of the car. He's quite a good writer too.
  13. Yep, keen to put her on the dyno and see what I need to do to get her 400+. Be in touch.
  14. Also, I'm keen to put some photos up. How do I do this as a new member? Have some good shots of Sabine clean and dirty. (Yes, her name's Sabine , google Sabine Nurburgring if you're unsure of origin). Lachie
