Nup, it is actually an explosive device. When an airbag is deployed, it also sets this unit off to isolate the battery for safety. So, in the event of an airbag needing replacement after an accident, so this battery link lead assy needs replacing too, for a cost of course...
That reminds me, i have one of those in my garage somewhere that needs setting off!!

I like how they didnt even bother to actually cover the original calipers, and is that a cable tie holding it on???
Nice.

Sounds like you need to tune the carb, best advice i can give is take it to someone who knows carbs and pay them to do it!! What area are you in?
-
My 540i uses about 13.5 l/100km so i cant really recommend it for a daily driver, like you say the wagons are a bit heavier though!!
From what i've heard the 530i is the way to go, quite a bit improved on the 528i, and theres a few around.
Good luck with the hunt.

Something you may want to think about is how you are going to hold that panel in once its done. I am not sure that the little spring loaded clip that normally holds it will handle the weight and vibration of a 12 inch sub!!
When i did mine i managed to get a small self contained 8" sub and amp in an aluminium housing that fitted nicely where the nokia one was, i modded the original hinge and latch so it just swings out of the way when you need to get at the battery. Its not super loud but its a shed load better than the factory one, and it has a wired remote for levels etc!
Mine is pioneer, but i saw a similar one by fusion? at supercheap a little while ago.
Good luck with the install, it will be worth it!!

In reality, probably still won't ticket you if you are going 109 its very hard to prove, and the tolerances on their own gear do not allow for 4km/h, that is only walking speed, very hard to pick up on a machine 500m away.
But these low tolerances are the reason i brought my Valentine One. If they didn't have these "hits" it would be one less reason to buy one, and id probably get tickets for time to time as well instead of never.
I wish, got pinged at 105 last holiday weekend!! Screw it , i pay the$65 and keep driving safely at slightly more than the legal limit. They should put much more emphasis on driver training.

My comments aren't around whether or not the driver should have been punished, only that the reasons given are inappropriate. Simply saying "you were driving at nearly twice the posted legal limit" would have been sufficient; anything more sounds like moral indignation and self-justification.
I agree, but it sounds like he is appealing a dangerous driving conviction, not a speeding ticket, so maybe he is correct and just because he was doing twice the limit doesnt mean it was dangerous. Not defending him, just saying...

Have double checked all the assembly. It was only removing the 2 bottom hoses and removing intercooler. Didnt really mess around with too much. :/
Cheers, yeah this is looking most likely... any chance we could have dammaged the turbo though? There was quite a bit of oil and crap that came loose and may have rushed though the pipes. Also when we first started it yesterday the engine was flooded so it didnt start smoothly. Hoping for his wallets sake we havent dammaged the turbo....
If your turbo is sucking air from the intercooler you have way more problems than a funny noise!!
Almost certainly a hose or loose connection.Might be worth checking if a bit of crap has gotten stuck in the BOV holding it slightly open??
-
It could do better too. I've seen you drive
Bmw put 286 hp into it, it would be a shame not to use all of them!!
But, yes it could do better.
-
For that amount of fuel you could be running a v8!! Mine sits at 13.5 l/100k and thats a mix of town, open road and towing the trailer!!
Best ive had was 9.9 from Welly to Auck. I always use 98, sems to get better mileage.
-
Nope, still truck steering!!The M5 would have different steering to that of the 540i no doubt?
If you're comparing 6 cylinder e39's to v8s, the power and torque more than make up for the "inferior" handling.
My e36 318is handles way better than my 540i touring but i still love driving the v8!!

but I'm not always sensible
+1
When i did it in the honda it was no problem, but because you have back doors i think you will have trouble. Talk to the cert guy up there, see what he says.
If you remove the rear seatbelts you are supposed to make it permenant, i.e. weld up the holes!!

so i got round to doing mine with absolutely impressive results!!came out like new..i used the 3M headlight restoration kit and drill...worked a charm il try post pics soon..used 500 grit 5 paads at approx 1500-2000 rpm then 800grit 2 pads at the same speed then 3000 water paper pad 4 to 5 times over light with 2000rpm approx and then polished 4 times took about 2 hours all up and came out an absolute beauty so if you want to do yours then use the 3M kit from car colours it is the absolute sh~t!!
+1 the 3m kit is awesome and only about $30!!
I got some paint protector film from a signwriter to put over mine. Seems to be working so far....

Cheapest option is probably to sell it and buy an M3!!
I can understand why one of the other options may be more appealing, i suppose it just depends what you want to get out of it.
Good luck either way!!

Check for oil down the spark plug holes, it might be time for new cam cover gaskets. I did my trans fluid at about 250k and it REALLY needed it, i assume the box on the 6s is also "sealed for life"?

D'oh!
I installed some chips today.
In my bellah!
Probably more usefull than the one i installed, at least you got a full bellah!
Apparently i have to disconnect the battery for 30 mins because the ecu remembers the program from the factory chip, sounds like a load of carp to me!!
-
Looks like i got a dud!!
Installed chip yesterday, car has no power, won't accelerate, and idles like a sack of schist!!
Put the factory chip in and it runs perfectly, i am hoping they have sent the wrong one and will sort it out, but i'm not holding my breath!!
Chalk this one up to experience.

Check the unloader relay. There is three of them stacked in the engine bay. Just temporarily swap them keep track of what went where and see if the car starts.
it is K6326 in the ETM. They get crusty over time and need replacing. Typical symptoms are starts when its cold and has trouble when its hot .. or the other way around and get progressively worse.
Cheers for that, relays are next on the list, then starter if they check out!!
The starter looks like a prick to get out so i may go overboard and pull the head off to do some other work while i am at it!!
Yet another small job snowballs wildly out of control....

It'll make it safer and more fuel efficient!
Did you fix it yet?
I AM all about safety and fuel efficiency, as you know!!
I have been a bit lazy, mostly because I "have" to drive the v8 till i fix it, but i tested the ignition switch and thats all ok,so onto the relay, solenoid, starter etc... i can see this ending with the head on my work bench getting ported and polished!!!
-
Let me know if anyone sees a 3.8 touring locally....
....BWAHAHAHAHA!
I'd sell a nut for one, I reckon. The Mrs reckons she'd drive an E34 Touring, but not sedan Apparently we don't "need" a V8, but the E34 M5's only a 6, so should be easy to talk her into Practically the same as the 525i....
Yeah 'cos you're going to buy an e34 m5 wagon and let Mo drive it...
-
It probably needs a V8 transplant
The v8 is quite happy where it is,thanks!
I'm pretty sure the supercharger is broken and i need to buy a new one
