These prices will never be repeated again and in most cases are selling below what they cost on today's market. They are not all BMW specific sizes, however they may be suitable for your other vehicles.

Those who watch Top Gear will know exactly what we are talking about.

I'm guessing they have 'stretched' a 215/35/18 on their as well. I can't believe they let the car leave the shop like that!! It would have rubbed hard coming off the hoist, and that should have given them some idea that they DON'T FIT! Every car that we fit wheels and tyres to is test driven to ensure there is no rubbing. I wouldn't wait around until Monday, I would be going straight back in there and demanding they fix the problem. The Consumer Guarantees Act is really on your side here, and they either have to REMEDY the problem or REFUND your money. Don't let them trick you in to rolling your guards and it won't achieve much.

Just remember a D plate is TEMPORARY REGISTRATION only. If your car does not have a WOF you could still get pinged!!

There is a guy on the North Shore called Brugar Engineering on Barrys Point Road who is able to build a "spacer" into the back of any wheel and attach it to the wheel. I am not sure whether this requires certifying or not but is much the same as Sam's Schnitzer wheels. It may be worht investigating for some of you guys, in particular Matzy

you will have to be more specific than that. The offset range really depends on the width of the wheel. As a general rule though +35 - +45 will work.

They wil fit but with the Centre Bore being 73.1 I can guarantee they wil shake and vibrate really badly. The only way to cure this is to get the centre bores machined out to 74.1 and then use a locating ring to seat it on the wheel centrally.

Yus they are made of a very soft compound. But at just over $600 all up for all for corners, I can afford that.

They are on trademe from Hyper for $180 ea, but if you go in directly they cost less

Are you sure you have the right size? We get the same price as Hyper and they cost more to buy than the price you are quoting.

Unfortunately all the overseas reviews don't take into account our rather unique road surface here. As Martyn suggestes our coarse chip tends to wear tyres alot more aggressively than overseas roads.

Jumps off the merry-go-round

Tyres are such a subjective issue and we tend to go round and round in circles on this issue. What one person likes, another doesn't and everyone has had differing experiences. There are so many good brands out there it really is going to come down to your own personal experience. Directional tyres have reached their development potential so they really cannot improve on what is already out there. Asymmetric tyres are what all major manufacturers are going towards now as they offer 'tunability' and performance. The RE001 is definitely a great value for money tyre and is very quiet and offers great levels of grip.

Kumho have just completed a year long test with over 1000 tyres. The filled 500 with Nitrogen and 500 with 'normal' air and left them in one of their warehouses. The result?..... on average ther air filled tyres only lost 2psi less than the nitrogen filled tyres.

When I am back at work on Monday I will scan thh article and post it up here, but basically they concluded that there was no real advantage.

I can going to have to disagree with you here. We have just had an S Class Mercedes in here with genuine 18" wheels on here and two of them cracked. We have been importing wheels for over 8 years and literally 1000's of wheels later we have NOT HAD ONE come back for warranty due to cracking. All of our wheels conform to the appropriate safety standards (TUV, JWL etc).

Just about all wheels now including the "well known American brands" are made in China or Indonesia. Italian made wheels are well known throughout the industry to be quite "soft" and prone to damage more easily than the so called "lesser quality" Chinese wheels.

If you buy your wheels from a reputable dealer then you should have no problems, it is the backyard importers that I worry about.

Cracked wheels are generally because people do not run enough pressure in their tyres.

20" wheels do fit on a 3 series without any guard modifications, even when they have been lowered. Obviously you need to run a 30 series tyre which is basically a licorice strap! And, you have to drive very carefully avoiding potholes etc, but this is the price you pay when you want "the look"

This style was the "new look" at SEMA in 07 from memory. Black wheels with colour coded lips to match your car. Last year there were literally thousands of cars in the US with this look. In good old little NZ it takes about 3 years for the trend to filter down here. I would say next year this will become quite popular. We have been holding off on ordering wheels like this but are seriously considering it towards the end of th eyear.

You need to work this one through carefully

The wheels and tyres you have are between 20 and 40 mm bigger in diameter than the standard options of the day which means the car sits higher by 10 to 10 mm to start with and the tyres fill the guards more.

You need to lower it just to get back to standard height but then you will end up with more tyre in the guard which may rub -

If you lower further to actually lower the car below standard ride height you will end up with a bigger risk of rubbing plus the suspension geometry will be sub optimal.

What rubbish The wheels and tyres are probably 10-15mm taller in overall diameter than OE. The offset is high enough to sit the wheels inside the car without any hint of rub. Even with a good set of lowered springs in there that will drop the car another 40mm there will be no rubbing, even with the wheels on full lock and a car full of people. Having done over 100 E36's on various size wheels and various brand lowering springs I can safely say that with that size wheel and tyre combo you can safely lower your car without any issues!

PS A set of lowering springs will probably drop your car by about another 25mm

hey mate, just remember the wheels have been clear coated so that will need to be taken off before you get them painted black. Will look hot btw, we are actually just discussing whether we should start looking at this style wheel (black with blue or red pinstripe)

dodgy seller is telling everyone they will fit 3 series BMW's as well - buyer beware!!

If your E46 is a genuine m-sport it should be about 25mm lower than a standard E46 already.

The shocks will not give you a ride height change, it is the springs that control this. I am sure their are other members on here who have upgraded their shocks and could give you more informed feedback. However, I am sure the Bilstein's will give you the handling you are after.

Glenn put on a shout at Fibber McFees last night. He had won a $100.00 bar tab and had advertised the fact on the forum and invited any Bimmersporter to attend.

Well you rotton 'stay at homers' you don't know what you have missed out on.

Glenn had also invited his staff and several of his friends, but only two bimmersporters took up the offer.

Of course the $100.00 didn't last very long, but Glenn did give his credit card rather a bashing and between the platters of food and beer, a damn good time was had by everyone there.

What's wrong with the members here, we are in a recession and someone offers free beer, and only two of us show up.

Shame on all you members.

That's a bit harsh don't you think? While I enjoy going to some of the meetings, my life does not revolve around Bimmersport meetings. A lot of us here have lives outside this forum and as such were probably otherwise engaged, and I don't really feel like I should have to explain why I wasn't there. Although both you and Glenn are great people and Glenn was more than generous with offering to share his bartab,if we don't turn up it's our problem. BTW 'free beer' is not the be all and end all for me personally. However the people that said they WOULD be there SHOULD have turned up! Just out of curiosity how many members here actually said they would attend?

Edit: Just had a look, it looks as though hardly any members ACTUALLY confirmed they would be there, so I don't see why you are getting your panties in a twist over this.
