  3. If you can afford an M5, you should be able to afford the cost of the tyres . Keep the Run Flats and fork out the money would be my advice, I can have a hunt around and see what else is available but won't be till Tuesday as we have a long weekend up here.

  5. haha!........ yeah back on topic as mentioned earlier, best bang for buck will be lowering springs. Bear in mind that your car is already lower than most 3 series from factory so you will prob only get another 20mm or so. Other than that I guess you would go for a full adjustable coilover setup. 3pedals - I think it is best if you keep your head in the sand that we don't get to hear more of your dribble (looks for the blacklist button like on Trade Me but bangs his head cos he can't find it) :banghead: :banghead:

    lower profile tyres will not greatly affect how low your car is - common misconception. Plus you can end up doing more damage than good if you have the wrong diameter tyres on, have been through all this before BUT some of you guys think you know better

    this is my old E36, now down in Tauranga I think. I used off the shelf Jamex lowering springs and it was about 105mm off the ground. I used Ti springs in the front and normal rears. The wheels are 19x8.5's all the way round with 225/35/19's, I had no issues with guard rub after performing very minor guard rolling. It took me about 15mins total.

  9. Is that your car in the Trade Me pics? Personally I would get the skirts and rear lips colour coded first. Not too sure if black will suit with the colour it is. Ask Craig for W173, nice aggressive 5 spoke in shadow chrome. 9.5's all the way round will fill the guards out nicely!! Or Beyern Mesh or Five will also look cool.   11. Hi Sam Hybrid is on the right track with most of his comments. However I would suggest running the same size wheels all the way round and 225/35/19's or if you are going for 18's then 225/40/18's. 18's still look great on an E46, we tend to recommend going for at least a "+2" sizing. By this I mean if your car has factory 16's put on 18's. At the end of the day it call comes down to what YOU like and what YOUR BUDGET is. Your car is a 318i ( ie 1.8 4 cylinder). The 235-35 will be too big for your car. Years of experience and doing hundreds of BMW's have taught us what works and what doesn't on a BMW. Cheers Johno
  12. sorry should have made nyself clearer: 3series BMW & Holden Commodore = compatible 5 series offsets should work on older Camaro's if you alter the pcd slightly.
  13. they are very very close but are slightly different BMW = 5 x 120 - same as Holden Commodore Camaro = 5x120.65 - Same as Holden HQ the two are not compatible, but with a bit of engineering can be made to work hope this helps Johno

  15. all this talk of "you HAVE to roll your rear guards" is utter bollocks. If you get the correct offset and width wheel, AND the correct upsize tyre you will not need to touch the guards. Tony - the design of the wheel is what gives it the dished look - Hybrid is bang on the money with his explanations. cheers Johno

  17. Hey mate the rear subframe issue has happened to 2 people I know of. They were both E46 coupes, and it only happened because both cars were excessively lowered around 70-80mm form memory. Hopefully this puts some of your fears to rest and it may also encourage the SLAB's to have a bit of a rethink.
  18. 245 roughly equals 9.5" 235 roughly equals 9.2" can't understand how the tyres are stretched? and don't get the quantum leap in logic to "no te flashest tyres anyway" he probably meant 245/35 and 235/40 which is close to factory upsize. would any sane person recommend spending money to make something worse - short answer no, but think about this: why would any sane person also spend thousands of dollars trying to make their car LIKE an M3? why not just buy an M3? No matter how much money you spend it will never be as good as the original. Monroes may be 'crap' for what you do and how you drive but it does not mean they ARE CRAP. Just like goodyears or Dunlops ARE CRAP because you think they are. I have gone over all this before in a previous tyre thread and can't really be bothered going over the term "fit for a purpose" all over again. Hybrid you are 100% correct in the way you have explained drifting. The technology that goes into the cars is unbelievable. Talking to Carl Ruiterman blew me away with what he has done to make the car handle. Going through the Puke sweeper at 200km sideways takes one hell of a car set up. That speed I would hazard a guess is probably close to the NZ V8's speed. Oh and one more point - his tyre of choice - Goodyear Eagle F1, decided upon after 8 hours of testing. Back on Topic (again) If you want a relatively cheap way to lower your car a reputable well known brand of progressive lowered springs are the BEST bang for buck way of doing it. another big rant for the boys FTW PS how do you compare Monroes D2's and Opossums WTF??????

  20. How are Tein cheap and nasty? Just like Monroe are crap? As 328imobbin says different strokes for different folks. Everything is designed for a purpose, Monroe may not be the best performance shock around but for 90% of the population they are fine. Likewise Tein are one of the best spring manufacturers around. SOS if you want some proper advice talk to Keith from H&R, he is one of the forum sponsors and has a huge amont of knowledge regarding springs and suspension, afterall it is his business. Likewise if you want mechanical advice go to the experts ie Botany motorworx. There are a lot of people on here with a little knowledge. This can be very dangerous, and it can get very confusing. Do it once, do it right - go to the experts! If your car already has Mtech springs you will find that any spring kit will only lower your car by a further 20mm or so, which is close to what you are after. Simply by changing springs you will not affect the shocks. cheers
  21. Maybe a Nexen is the way to go, its another good allround tyre, silica based so is nice and quiet, has reasonable grip and it lasts pretty well.
