  2. An old BMW is only cheap as far as the purchase price, I know from experience, I seem to be fixing both my cars every few weeks lol. but I don't mind, i'm a car nutter, I wouldn't recommend these cars for something thats not into cars really..
  3. I've noticed that after going for a good drive, that coming up to a set of lights and idling results in a smell of fuel from the exhaust, so thought it might be running a bit rich, the car no longer has the original engine, but has the original ecu etc. so I can't see that being a problem. If you blip the throttle from idle it hesitates a bit, I'll make a video clip to show it. **EDIT ** no longer hesitates at all, I put some 98 octane fuel in it before, interesting.. looks like i'm sticking to 98.. Still smells like its running rich though.
  4. The reason I ask is that it appears that it doesn't have one, I can't see any wiring for one either, the car has headers and I can't see anywhere an o2 sensor can attach to. The car is a UK Import one, inside the fuel filler it says leaded or unleaded fuel, is it possible this model just doesn't come with one as standard?
  5. I'd suggest buying an entire factory exhaust from a wrecked E30 325i, the rear muffler flows better than the 320i's one. I purchased one in good condition for my 320i. Buying a full new exhaust and headers will cost a good $1000 I reckon. You could talk to Mr Muffler on Garlands road though, but the headers you might need to supply yourself, not many exhaust shops will carry E30 headers.
  6. hi all, tomorrow I will remove the pump and confirm what model etc that it is, it should be a Bosch one, but sometimes they came with alternative ones, the outside part I have taken the Picture of looks the same on them also I think. I can buy a brand new Bosch Pump for $185USD + $60USD shipping, sounds expensive, but BMW want $805 for the same pump. Landed Price $336 all up. I'm wondering if buying an old one is a false economy, since it will probably be as old or older than mine, my car is a 1990 with 163,000ks on it. then again its probably done alot more, being a Jap import one. EDIT: *** HAVE JUST PURCHASED ONE, Cheers to those who made offers. ***
  7. My fuel pumps almost stuffed, had to do the hammer trick while cranking engine today to get the car to start. Hopefully this Pic helps. If anyones got one for a good price let me know Cheers Charles
  8. Hey Guys, Is there anyway I can tell (easily) which strut inserts are correct for my car? realoem shows both sizes for that car using the chassis number, but is there any physical indications on the struts to look for? I have already purchased 51mm ones, but its probably 50/50 that its correct. doh.
  9. White cars finished, as far as its now running and usable as a daily driver. This Picture shows old radiator vs new one, you can see theres a size difference, however this new one is still factory size for some E30's anyway. The painful part.. the bill, I have learnt a valuable lesson today, I need to stop being lazy and do some more work myself.
  10. A crap 0-60mph run with the M20B25 fitted. Compare to my video with 2.7 block and 731 Head, you can see it likes to rev alot more with the M20B25.
  11. Chip not installed yet, waiting for overnight parts from Auckland, namely the Top Radiator Hose. I will take the car for a drive tomorrow night and use it for the week then put the chip in on the weekend and compare the difference (if noticable). Will post up results
  12. Yeah, hes one of those Tools that goes on about BMW meaning Breaks my Wallet etc. But personally I have found parts to be not that expensive and theres pages of e30 parts on trademe going cheap , how much difference did you notice going from M20B25 to M50B25?
  13. Another gift for the 325i Got these brand new for $17USD each when I purchased some other bits, should help to tidy it up a bit
  14. Hehe, i'd take the E30 over the prelude anyday, but I have to work with a guy that has a Prelude who goes on all day about how he's faster than this car, that car etc, typical Honda driver, theres nothing really wrong with Hondas, just the owners.. I actually had one of those Preludes 10 years ago when I was 20, I thought it was pretty good at the time, but now all I see is an ugly 90's Jap Coupe I think I can still beat him at circuit racing, his Prelude is on my youtube profile doing Ruapuna, took him 2:08 with the dipper, I don't think that will be hard to beat Sooner or later he's going to be on about me going to the drags, but I think I'll be busy that day. I didn't buy an E30 because they are quick, I like the shape and RWD config, it was also the last BMW that was designed the old fashioned way (E36 was Designed with CAD software).
  15. Today a cork gasket and metal cover arrived that I ordered from the net. Do I need to use sealant with the cork gasket on this outlet? Cheers.
  16. Ok, $50 including shipping? surely someone wants this, its $144 at supercheap auto
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgX2ezcm2Zk Annoying video really hehe, as my workmate has a Vtec prelude and hes been going on about going to Ruapuna for the Drags to take me down, looks like I wouldn't be able to take him on in a drag race if they beat a M50 powered E30 lol, but hopefully Ruapuna Circuit Racing/track Day is a different story.. This may give me motivation to modify my 325i though
  18. Well, i didn't make a video, (forgot camera) but it did end up starting 1st turn of the key, after a few mins alot of smoke was coming out the exhaust, I was getting a bit worried, but 10mins later it seemed to clear. Only problem was, i had to borrow a radiator hose off my other BMW to enable this car to work, as the radiator hose kit ordered was for the model with the smaller radiator, however as mine now has a bigger radiator I needed a differn't top hose, which happened to be exactly like my jap import 320is one. Then the bleed screw wouldn't move, rather than risking snapping it off I left it running for ages without cap to get rid of any air, but then had to give up as the mechanic guy needed to go out for dinner.. Had to put the hose back on the 320i and drive that for the weekend, but early next week it should be sorted.
  19. Petrol Used: 95 Octane Engine Size: 6 Cyl, 2L Trans: Auto Car Year: 1990 Typical KM/L = 9KM/L Combo of around town / open road driving For my 320i
  20. Yes, I purchased that exhaust from you. thanks for that I don't need to worry about the 2.7 engine for now as I went with the option of a factory 325i engine for that car. but will slowly strip down the 2.7 and see what it needs repair wise, i wouldn't mind having that engine in the 320i. I still havn't got that exhaust put on yet, but should be on next week, I have a spare 325i intake manifold, but need a 325i throttlebody for it eventually. I need to double check the block numbers on my eta block, its possible its not the 11-1 compression model. if it turned out to be the lower compression one then I can use the 731 head from my 320i engine, although it would be nice if the 731 head currently fitted to the eta block wasn't stuffed as its already port matched to that 325i intake manifold.
  21. Going to strip it down and see what work it needs doing on it, will then put it in the 320i as the M20B20 engine lacks torque down low and annoys me
  22. From what I've read the surge after 4500 doesn't really happen with the 2.7 stroker engine, I noticed that with mine also and it has nice headers etc on it already, then again mine only had the 731 head. My 2.7 claimed to have a 323i cam with 260degree also, which should help this? Today when the 2.5 engine is running I'll compare to how it was before, the 2.7 was taken out, i'm pretty sure it will instantly pull harder to the redline with everything else left as.
  23. The white car should be on the road today, The replacement M20B25 is now fitted (has now got new Cambelt, waterpump, tensioner etc and new oil seals.) the engine bay was given a bit of a clean before installing. The radiator was tested and cleaned but came back as 25% blocked, I have since purchased a new much larger radiator for it, the factory one was rather small, I assume this is because it was a UK import in Manual transmission with no A/C, the radiator had a 40% bigger than original cooling capacity but fits fine and looks factory anyway. All coolant hoses have been replaced also, I don't want to take any chances with reliabilty, this car may see some laps at Ruapuna so I want it to be as good as I can afford it to be. The $ is adding up quickly, but thats to be expected, I will add a video of its 1st start up later on, technically it has had an engine conversion really, considering it had an engine with a 731 head and a 525e block before hand. Cheers
  24. http://www.turners.co.nz/Vehicles/Pages/Ve...3&imgpage=1 Says its 1989 but its non facelift? carjam also says its 2500cc.. wierd.
  25. Want to buy my ETA block? just needs new rings and its good to go probably
