  1. Yeah, been using it as the daily driver the last 2 weeks, yay someone saw me Its a bit of a beast really.. sounds "tough" due to the odd header configuration i think.. you probably noticed how black my white bumper is looking too.. Just recieved today: new Intake boot, Vac hoses, fuel filter, sparkplugs, valve cover gasket and having new valve stem seals fitted next week (carefully without removing head lol). Not sure if it was blowing smoke when you were following me.. only does it when cold as far as I can tell.. hence stem seals.
  2. LOL I failed to look at the profile. All i know is that every car i've had without cat converter has had an annoying amount of black crap end up all over the back bumper (noticable on Light Coloured cars), but in this case I don't think its going to be a problem. This happened on all the cars i've owned (without cats), including my current white E30 325i, which was factory non cat version. These were not all old cars like my E30 either, some were low km's year 2000 + models. My mechanic mate claims its due to NZ"s crap fuel.. I think he's right too, as when I had AVGAS in the car for one tank fill I had no black carbon crap on the back bumper . (I wash it off often, this picture depicts 1 weeks driving).
  3. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-267900335.htm I would be quite keen on this car if it had the traditional Twin Headlight Front like my old Golf GTI had. Always had a soft spot for Mk2 Golfs
  4. 1: 1984 Nissan Sunny Leprix Turbo Sedan- Blew a headgasket between 2 cylinders on a road trip and on another road trip the distributor failed, so 2x this car left me stuck on the side of the road, and a 3rd time the gearbox failed on me, but luckily one of the gears still worked so I was able to limp it home. thankfully I was an AA member, it was kind of my fault though, I had a T25 Turbo and Intercooler added, was running 16psi boost and had 180hp at the wheels.. lol. The torque steer was dangerous in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear, and the handling was just plain terrible, I converted the car back to standard before I sold it as I deemd it to be too dangerous. 2. 1980 Leyland Mini 1000, Yeah, I know, classic car icon, but these cars are gutless and have horrible gearboxes and clutch etc, noisy, rattley pieces of crap, you get no respect on the road when you drive one of these, all you get is people overtaking you everywhere and tailgating you, unless you get the Classic Cooper S model its not worth it. 3. 1997 Honda Torneo SIR-T, these cars have a really nasty EPS steering system (Electronic Steering Rack) that neally always fails.. as did mine, was quoted $4000 to repair at Honda. But the worst thing about this steering system is the lack of feel/feedback you get with it. The 2Litre Vtec engine makes no low down torque, the car comes in at over 1300kg, but you need the RPM needle over 5000rpm to get it to move, then the RPM limiter kicks in too early. This was the 1st car I took to a trackday, which was when I learnt how dull the EPS steering system is.
  5. I wouldn't do it if you have a light coloured car, as you end up with black crap from the exhaust all over the back of the car with no cats.

Modem: SMC7904WBRA-N ADSL2+ Connected at 16Megabits, have had 1.7megabytes per Second via Usenet This PC is well over 3 years old now, with the exception of one of the HDD's and the Monitor. It still doesn't everything I need.. so can't be bothered upgrading it, nothing that new and exciting has come out anyway, I used to work at Insite Technolgy building these damn things.. so kind of over it . 90% of its use is downloading Bluray movie rips in either 720p or 1080p, which I then play on my AC Ryan PlayonHD media centre, thanks to the Xtra BIG time plan, have downloaded 250gb so far this month
  7. Its pretty easy, 10min job, its basically taking one chip out and replacing it with another. the ecu is held in place by 10mm bolts, then pull the silver retaining clip forwards and the ECU plug will be removed. To get inside the ECU requires bending up the retaining clips, then the top cover will come away. The chip you change is on a small raised socket, you can gently lever it out with a flathead screw driver.
  8. I chucked a Speedtouch (from e30zone) chip in the 320i auto before, it actually made a difference, the car has more go, not alot more, but its noticable, more responsive down low.. was 30pounds incl shipping to nz, only thing was 1/2 the pins were bent, he sent it to me in an envelope.. no problem for me as I work in IT anyway.. and changing chips etc is 2nd nature . I purchased this chip in hope of gaining better fuel economy more then the claimed 7-11hp, so will see how that works out and report back.
  9. 1989 325i = 259,000ks 1990 320i = 163,560ks showing, however it only clocks up about 4 out of 10kms driven lol. not sure how long its been doing that either. http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=wx6831
  10. Well it could have been cheaper, but I got a new drier unit and some new o-rings etc, came to $297incl, but should be good for years, the guy reckoned the system was in good condition.. said the newer ones aint always as well made, I was surprised that most of the parts were ok after 20 years. I don't mind wasting $ on cars, the missus pays 1/2 of all repairs on the 320i, its 1/2 her car.. Anyway.. back OT, the chip might make up for the power that the A/C steals if i'm lucky..
  11. Hmm I wouldn't count on it. I had it in getting the A/C Re-gassed the other day, the loan car was a Subaru Legacy Brighton Wagon, 2.2 Non turbo, it seemed like an utter rocket ship compared to my 320i lol
  12. I just ordered a mild chip for my 320i, claims better fuel economy.. gota be worth a go lol. Came to $67.70 NZD.. extra 7hp on the 320i would be useful hehe
  13. I put my E30zone chip back in, it is better then the factory ecu chip, not sure how much better though, but the seller of it doesn't make big claims, these are only 30 pound, so a bit cheaper too. This is what he told me originally: Hi Charles, Either Mild or Wild will be suitable for your car. The Mild gives an extra 8-10bhp but dramatically increases low-down and mid-range torque for improved driveability and better fuel economy. The rev limit is raised to 7000rpm for when you're in the mood for a blast. In my 1988 325iSE, this chip brought the 0-60mph time down from the standard 7.3 to well under 7 seconds and raised top speed from 135mph to 140mph, whilst returning 30mpg average with ease. The Wild chip contains the Alpina C2 2.5 program, which if combined with a six-branch, BBTB and a 268/268 cam as per Alpina spec, will give up to 192bhp and a rev limit of 6500rpm. However, it will also give gains of around 10bhp on a standard M20B25. For general daily use, I'd recommend the Mild, as it makes driving the car so much easier by eliminating the usual flat spots in the standard chip program. Either will be £35 posted to NZ. If you'd like one, my Paypal address is mtjhunt@yahoo.com I then asked about a chip for my 320i. Hi Charles, Yes, I am able to offer either Mild or Wild for the later facelift Motronic 320i: 320i/520i Chips for M20B20 with 172/381 ECU code: 1. M20B20 Mild; 7-10bhp gain. Improved mpg and low/mid-range torque, eliminates flat spots to perk up the throttle response, 6500rpm rev limit. 2. M20B20 Wild; 8-13bhp gain, to liven up the venerable M20B20, 6500rpm rev limit. The mild would probably be most suitable for an automatic. If you'd like one, price will be £30 posted to New Zealand. Regards,
  14. He got ripped off bad really. I paid only $200 more and got: M20B27 taken out (had to take out gearbox with it due to stubborn bolt, removed from engine once it was out) M20B25 put in, but with new cambelt, waterpump, tensioner, oil seals, new radiator, all new hoses. So alot more labour, also those radiator hoses were not cheap, it all adds up.
  15. Awesome, i have a soft spot for the E28 a customer at work comes in a M535I E28, it sounds awesome. welcome
  16. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-264522073.htm only an extra 1k... hehe
  17. Am tempted to get new sparkplugs, HT leads, Sparkplugs, Dizzy Cap, Rotor, Temp sensor, Intake Boot. Any other suggestions?
  18. Car has a lightened flywheel and Nolathane engine mounts.. so maybe this explains some noises
  19. Your right, I just tried it now.. well its most of the noise anyway.. The car has Nolathane engine mounts and lightened flywheel, the spigot bearing was replaced when engine fitted to my exisiting gearbox.. i assumed spigot bearing was thrust bearing.. is it normal ?
  20. Doh "Off-idle mixture is controlled by the ECU and you cannot adjust it." so its not going to help my white bumper..
  21. Are you watching me or something? I was just reading that page. Ok, say its running Rich or Lean, how do I deal with that? I had a play with the mixture screw on the AFM and it didn't seem to do much. I thought that maybe the AFM was adjusted in someway for when it was on the 2.7 engine.. to add more fuel.. The thing is.. my car does run Rich, you should see the black crap I get on my nice white bumper.
  22. yes, the knock is what i'm really concerned about, thought perhaps timing could be a problem? I have the factory ecu chip back in it too, I took the speedtouch one out so that I could cancel that out as being a potential problem..
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdEtG1T_NPM Heres the noise I get when I turn the engine off
  24. Similar result, but you don't have the knocking/pinging sound and your engine shutdowns normally. i could make a video of the sound I get when turning off engine I guess.
  25. Still does it when driving the car sometimes. so yes.. Does yours also make that knocking sound when you turn the engine off?
