  1. will have to look into what i have in the way of rads (condition etc ) $100-200

I do have the brake set up . not sure if anyone has fitted it to a e30 with a bmw v8 . but have seen it used with m50 into e30 and m30 into e30 etc .

it steps the cylinder over to the left and angles it away a little too.

Thanks mate i appreciate it. Im actually pretty keen on the brake set up... Would you do a deal for a radiator and that too? i have bought almost everything for the conversion off you haha but i dont mind you have looked after me and service been great, thanks.

  2. Awesomness, Have you heard my exhaust Sam? I'm only running 2x 2.25 into a 2.5inch and it sounds great in my opinion and a few others :) I dont belive we need huge exhausts on these smaller v8s.

A good single 2.5inch pipe will support 350hp without restriction and will ensure torque at lower revs. Ive heard allot of 4.0lt v8s with 3inch pipes and twin 2.5s and they can sound very harsh and drone at lower revs. Mine does not drone at all and it certainly barks at high revs.

What are the specs on your headers?

Nah i havnt heard yours mate, would be quite keen to :D would you want to come have a chat this saturday when im working on it? quite keen to hear what you think regarding exhausts etc...considering you have already done it :P

  3. can do a e28 radiator from 535i 528i etc .

also what about this for a brake setup.

from a 540i uses the power steering fuild system to boost the brakes instead of the vac system .

    e28 528i 525i 535i ,e23 730i 735i , and some early e32 730i 735i , 750il 740i

and e34 v8's use this system

How much would you want for the e28 535i radiator?

Wow i never knew that! do you have one of these set ups? very interested

  4. So time for an update,

I have everything mocked up on the engine finally! A/c and alternator had to come off to fit between the chassis rails but they are back on and fit nicely. i have got the headers made and they are about to come off and be HPC coated.

Also have all the wiring all done!! What a nightmare! but its all done and everything electrical works.

The mounts are finished too. Soooooo on saturday ill be taking the motor out, cleaning it, and removing all brackets off the motor that are not needed. Will weld plate for the engine mounts onto the chassis and tidy up wiring.

While motor is out i will get flywheel and clutch all sorted and all ready to go back together. The driveshaft is away getting lengthened and a different end put on it. Gearbox linkages are being lengthened too.

My Question for all is "Where can i find an e28 535i radiator?!?!" or even just the dimensions for it would be helpful.

Also HELLBM if you read this i want to buy an e36 rack to put in it...you still selling them for $100? i would need the steering shaft to but don't need the lines. Will send you a PM tonight too.

Still stuck for ideas as to what i can do with a brake master cylinder and booster, ideas anyone? the head completely covers the factory hole for the booster.

With any sort of luck i will have it back together and drivable in three weeks :D i cant wait to get it going.

With regards to exhaust i will get magoos to mandrel bend up 2x 2.5inch tube and sort a muffler...what would you recommend for the best v8 rumble and sporty noise?

    Cheers guys

  5. Mine used to show an indicated 218kph.

Fastest ive had it up to since the conversion is 225kph (very accurate) on the limiter with the 3.73 diff at Ruapuna lol, Now its got the 3.24diff it will do 260kph flat out. It will get there to!! To fast for a flying box though

Mine used to show very similar. will be interesting to see what the new top speed is:D

  6. i only think its worth it if you stick the engine into a smaller car like a e30 ,e28 or e36 etc but you would need the manual gearbox and that will cost you plenty $$$$$

Exactly what im doing as we speak. And for the record bmw v8 gearbox is many many $$$$, shipping is massive too

  7. All the paint is dry, I'll be getting the bushings in maybe tonight and have it back in on friday. Can't do anything tomorrow cause I'm off to drive a FORMULA FORD and 13b N/A batty out at ruapuna, there will be photos. YUS. Birthday present from the girl :)

Its awesome fun mate, i got the same thing from my old man and had a total ball. you will love it.

  8. The straights aren't that long at Ruapuna so I wont get to much ahead. Videos of the duel will be a must!! Cant wait till Sam's got his v8 going as well and we can go at it hard.

Haha yeah mate, we could hire out the track or go out on a test day with all three, that would be awesome!!

  9. going through a massive tat fetish right now:

Perfect girl - covered in rockabilly tats, tight 3/4 length blue jeans, white singlet, aviators, red bandana, high heels, posing beside a 34 3 window ford coupe.

    now she sounds nice.

  10. Just get a GOOD alloy radiator, that'll work very well.

Looking good! If you need a hand (don't think you do ha, seem to have it sorted) I can help you oi

cheers mate, my number is 027 2618440 flick me a text and we can have a chat and talk cars etc

  11. Another e30 v8......and guess what its almost within a stones throw from my place.....must be something in the water down here lol. Cant wait for the v8 vs v8 challenge :)

Thanks for the ride in the 700hp beast the other week mate that thing is just awesome!! when are you over the the states for the road trip?

yeah mate it must be, but hey i love the water ay, cant beat the sound of a v8. No worries about the camaro ay, any excuse to take the old girl out. i leave for the usa on the 6th of july, i hope to have it all done before then but its hard only being able to work one day a week.

  12. Update.

Today i mounted the gearbox onto the motor in the engine bay and used the rubbers off the 530 trans and my factory gearbox cross member and it fitted in the hole perfectly. just enough clearance everywhere. The new box seems shorter than the G260 so i have to cut and lengthen my linkages but i cant TIG weld so will have to get some one to do that for me.

I also made the engine mounts for the motor, i incorporated the factory cross member and welded a plate onto the sub-frame with two tapped bolts through the mount into the plate. the mount also has a tab which locates the mount with the plate and also carries the load straight down to the plate. I'm yet to gusset some plates to the front and back of the mounts to just add extra strength.

I have a question thats been on my mind for a while... will the 325i radiator and oil cooler be sufficient enough for the v8? If not what can i use.

Next weekend i hope to get the headers on and modified to fit the e30 engine bay the mounts finished, alternator and A/c condenser in, flywheel and clutch kit on and maybe the linkages and drive shaft lengthened to size. Once thats all done ill take the motor out and give it a really good clean and look at the brake master cylinder and what i can do there. Ideas anyone???

    Cheers

P.S the mulitple washers on the engine mount bolts are just temp until i can drill hols for the threads to do into the sub frame rather than bottom out and possibly strip the threads.

  13. Great to see its all on the way now. Will keep an eye on this thread :D

BTW just swap the sensors over for the speedo. Thats what I do when changing diffs from small case to medium case

ummm yeah.. i sort of let my sender go with my diff when i sold it. ooops! but can i not just put some flat female connectors on the wires and connect them to the diff? Is the actual sender itself the same?

  14. He will need to do the RPM 6cyl-8cyl gauge tweek like you did to mine as well

yeah mate i just took it into parrot and sons and the did that for me no worries, also calibrated all my dials again to check they are all sweet which is good. I got the gearbox today, man o man its a big f*&$er. glad i didnt decide to get a 6 speed! its really tall but it seems to fit everyone says so on saturday i guess ill find out. Im getting a flywheel made up through a mate of mine and he reakons it will be about $400 for a proper good quality slightly lighter than factory flywheel so thats good. clutch kit has been ordered so its all on the go
