  1. So new clutch arrived yesterday and the whole assembly has been dropped off to Bob Mead in New Lynn (Thanks to Brent) to have it balanced and machined. One i get the kit back, will bolt it up to the Getrag Box and then see how much wiring is actually needed, and from what im told, it seems like alot...

    More updates to come

  2. Good luck wiring it in.

Have a look on realoem and compare the parts that mount the m50 and m20 engines to an e34

The flywheel might need a bit taken from it

The gearbox angle might be angled a bit to the right

I had a look at realoem, they didnt offer much on part comparing, but Brent from this forum knows a bit, plus has some parts, so ill hopefully get his head around things...

  3. you need some e34 m50 engine mounts .

and you will need a m50b25 vanos type wiring loom , afm , ecu and all the sensors ,alternator , basically everything from a e34 525i with m50 vanos 2.5L engine etc approx 1992 to 1994 (non ews type) with bosch ecu.

i told you all this the other day.

my mate did a m52b28 from a e36 328i the other day to his 94 525ix touring , we just used all the orginal e34 electrics , mounts , sump etc etc....

but beacuse you are starting with a m20 powered e34 you will have to buy pretty much everything

oh and the m20 type gearbox will sit on the wrong angle when bolted to the m50/m52 type engine .

so your gearbox mount and gearlever will need to be modified etc

    hope this helps

    Hey Brent,

did you not get my VM on Moday afternoonI left one asking when I could come and view your E34 if you still have it.

Now i know what i need for the conversion because like you said, you told me before and i do have a few parts, PLUS i have had the guy from Australia who has dont the M20 to M52 conversion emailing me a list of instructions and parts that he used, and the ECU has been sent in to have EWS disabled.

So as soon as i get the list, I can come purchase the stuff from you and if i need something else, i will come see you agian. I dont want to have to purchase more parts then needed, but in saying that you obviously know more about this then i do, so i can come down on Saturday morning and look at the car and give you the list of parts needed...

  4. No disrespect intended.... but you don't know what yourve got yourself into with that. There is a hell of alot more to it than mounts. You will need to do a hell of alot of research. Some of it will be wrong and you'll end up spending sh*t loads.

Thanks Glenn, I have been doing some extensive research. Its going to be a "project" so will have to tackle each hurdle as it comes really. I have found a Member on the Australian BMW Forum that has done this and have been in contact with him.

But thanks for the heads up

  5. So i purchased what "Appears" to be an Alpina E34, still waiting on convermation from Jerry Clayton, anyways, the previous owner has kindly fk'd the engine up.

So since i have a spare M52B28 at home that was going to be used for another project, I have decided to build it up and install it in the E34.

I have tested the fitment and it fits pretty good and bolts up perfectly to the Getrag 5 Speed E34 Gearbox. The only thing i have a concern about are the Engine Mounts.

My Question is... Has anyone done this conversion before or know what mounts would be needed?

    E34 M20B25(7) to E39 M52B28...

    E34 M20B25(7) to E39 M52B28...

This is what I've done so far..

    M50 Intake with throttle

    Engine Straight out of E39

    post-2466-1330563689.jpg

Removed Engine Cover and all appears to be okay, will just need to clean both upper and lower engine parts

Now this was messy, M50 Fron Sump which is needed for the conversion...

    During

I didnt manage to get a shot of the Sump after it was made almost spotless along with a good scrub on the bottom end, but i managed to fill 4 Degreaser Caps and empty all 4 cans...Just on the Sump and Bottom End

Managed to get the sump on, which took a wee while, but fits like a condom

Tonight i will work on tranferring the clutch and flywheel from the M20 and then bolt up the GB for a Saturday Morning engine transplant :-)

  7. Which race class is this? There are plenty of ways to hide away stuff. Look up how people hide turbo's in California

How do you fit the supercharger under the intake without moving the alternator or power steering?

Got any pictures of your e36

Ill dig them out of the archives.

As for the supercharger, the SC14 unit is a pretty small unit and we have it put up against the engine wall for now. We have also purchased a longer pulley from some Toyota hi-ace at Pick a Part to fit to on the SC14, and all in all it looks like it will fit just above / behind the alternator, atleast that is the plan.

  8. I have an E46 rolling chassis that will be built after the E39 is completed. The reason i chose the E39 528, is that i havent seen many of them around in Manual nor have I seen many around that have been modified to an extent that i am going to. Almost half the car will be fibre glass or carbon fibre, including the back two doors, boot and bonnet and maybe the front venders depending on time. I will be uploading some photos shortly of progress.

I thought that building a unique project car is all about the journey and the fun, but also hoping that the outcome is good too.

Although, a V8 does sound pretty sweet, perhaps ill look at doing that next.

  9. the sc14 wont come anywhere near that power level you would need to use a sprintex or similar but from the looks way out of your budget

Our budget is not the issue, the issue is that we want more power out of the engine before installing the SC14. So our goal is to get the car to good NA HP levels prior to FI which is why i have posted this asking for other ideas.

We chose the SC14 for several reason, mainly because it can be configured to kick in by the touch of a button and because it fits perfectly under the M50 intake which gives it the "Stock" look which is needed for the race class we are wanting to race in.

IF we are stull not happy with the outcome after the build, we will install our Vortech system and try get that to appear "stock"

  10. Thanks for the replys.

BBS - I am wanting to know the Injector Size of the M52B28. Since this will be forced induction, i am wanting to up them to larger injectors, but only if needed.

Hybrid and Young Jack, ill contact Gavin this week to get some more information for the ECU Remap.

I will be happy with anything from 350 - 400 HP, which im sure is do-able after complete rebuild with all the mods.

  11. Good Day members, im new to the forums, even tho i have been a member since 2007 (I forgot)

I have an E39 528i Manual that i will be building up for track and drag. I have pulled out the M52B28 from my Auto E39 that broke and will be rebuilding the entire engine.

Now i have the following on the "to do" list for mods and some mods have already been ticked off, but am keen for more ideas..

    - M50 2.5 Intake system (already installed and tested)

    - ECU Remapp, but will need to track someone down to assist with that side.

    - 3mm steel gaskets with inline carbon fibre threading

    - 2X2.5" exhaust with custom twin mufflers

    - Custom extractors (already built and installed)

    - US Spec M3 Cams (does anyone know where to get these, besides the US)

    - SC14 Supercharger

    - Fibre Hood, Bootlid and body kit (currently building)

Does anyone know what the CC rating on the M52B28 is and will these need to be upgraded.

My E36 2.8 had a similar set up that ran 310 rwhp (minus the M3 Cams and Injector Upgrade), so im hoping to get more for the E39.

I have also researched from the lads in Japan on how to lighten this heavy lady, so we will be chopping allot of steel and replacing it with Carbon fibre.

    Thanks,

    François
