    put simply, a tight tappet will cause the valve to not close properly, this causes the valve itself, and the seat to erode.... had it happen on my old mini... took a while to run on 4 cylinders as the valve was f**ked as.....

    No, carl, what you said was correct, I just didn't understand what you were meaning, although, I've never heard of that being a problem... unless it's detonation... wind some timing into it, so long as you make sure it's tuned correctly for that amount of timing, and you use the grade of fuel it's been tuned to run that timing with, or higher, then you should be sweet... just watch out on hot days :thumb: I would ask that you don't insult my intellegence, this is a forum of opinions brought about by experiences and knowledges, a moron can sift the net all day for answers, doesnt mean they're gospel.... therefore others opinions are a good thing

    explain exactly how it raises the compression ratio??? dude advancing timing cannot raise compression, compresison, in laymans terms is "to squash a volume of air/fuel mixture down to a smaller volume" advancing timing changes the point at which the combustion occurs...

    make sure you put the right oil in there.... it you changed to a lighter grade then I'd drain it and put the correct one in, as it wont be holding the same oil pressure when the oil is hot at lower rpm.... of course you dont need excessively high oil press, just consistent...... if all else fails, check the tappet clearances, but in saying that: "a slightly noisy tappet is a happy tappet" if they're too tight then the possibility of buring out a valve is there

  10. tim.... get your hand off it man, ew... hah, must be diggin on those american trucks?? old man's been drivin a 580hp scania for a bit, spins up all 4 driving wheels fully load on wet roads uphill.. had to swap into a freightliner of the same vintage today, not lovin it.. go american sh*t!!!

I work in parts, at one of the flasher workshops in palmerston north, servicing the workshop and retail blah blah blah used to work at transport wholesale just down the road, came to what i percieved was the highest I could move within the group...... was there for 18months when I was headhunted for here and a couple other places, didn't wanna leave the area. previous to that I worked after school, then full time with my old man, truck workshop while I decided what I "wanted to do" uni didn't appeal to me, although I had ample qualification to jump in there. secured my job at twl through mocking the rep, NEVER listen to anybody that says being a smartarse gets you nowhere, it's blatantly obvious that that's untrue, for me anyway munts: that debt collecting sounds like ALOT of fun, lol

I rewired sparkel's a/c fan the run off a switch as well as on it's normal low speed a/c cycle (they only run like 6v as there's a resistor wired in paralell in the circuit, which we bypassed on the switching circuit toget it to run at full capacity) just as extra cooling in traffic/caning etc... IMO, it's not worthtaking the viscous off UNLESS you hook up a proper stand alone electric fan, with an over-ride switch so you can make it manually turn on in case you need to, sparkle's is now excessively cooled with both, so doesn't use it much... rules in traffic tho
