  1. I'm not an expert on prices but i think most 318i go for less than $2000, a guy at school got a M-tec 318i at the auctions for $1500, that was a bit of a steal. He didn't even know it was M-tec till i had a look at the car and told him.

I have found my NZ new 87' 318i to be a very reliable car that get WOF no problems at all even after 240Km

  2. I wasn't aware they made M versions of 320's. Anyway, my mate still has a 320 manual box for sale, better yet, he also has a M20B20 engine that is damaged. for some reason every single rocker arm on the exhaust side snapped. I'm not sure on compatability but maybe someone could combine the engines together to make a decent one.

  3. He never had one.

His car started out as a jetronic 320. He then brought the 2.5L engine and box but no loom or ecu. He somehow managed to brainwash the 320 ecu into running the 2.5, part of the brainwash invloved using 2 distributors and the 2.0L afm. Anyway it amazing it ran at all let alone fast enough for him to flip it.

  4. Ummm.... Isn't there a noise limit already anyway?

Supposing this new law goes ahead, instead of replacing my ageing exhaust with cheap aftermarket one, (or even free in my case :D ) I would have to go to bmw and fork out lots of coin for the genuine article.

This country is starting to piss me off - the western springs speed thing comes to mind.

Damn people who go round looking for things to complain about. :rambo:

  5. Just take the screws you got out of the sunroof down to a engineers supplies shop or similar and they should be able to match up the thread pattern and length with any head you want. From memory they had threadlocker on them so it might be an idea to use locktite when you put them back in.

Also, probably an idea to get a torx set because there are a few other place where they use a torx head. (Gearbox to engine is another place where you'll need them if you do your conversion.)

  6. If you can offer a choice.

I imported a headunit and they wanted $90US to ship it over, or it was free to the US. So I had them send it to someone over in the states who sent it to me for about $40NZ just using the USPS airmail. I reckon that would be the best method, takes about 1 - 2 weeks at about a quarter of the cost of UPS or fed-ex etc

  7. I try to do mine every 5000 and filter at least every second change. Thing is, SI lights seem to take ages to go out. How many km should it normally take for them to go down? I know it depends on revs aswell but just an average distance?

  8. I got the fusion splits as well and they should come with cross overs. I just mounted them on top of the little black panel in the glove box and the other one under on top of the cover that sits under the steering column. Also, i got mine running off and amp and they go good enough for me.

  9. Pushrod engines ain't that bad, dunno why they sometimes get a bad rep. Specific power output might not be up there with a DOHC but they normally smaller and lighter when compared with dohc engines of similar displacement. Also dohc engines carry their weight much higher than a pushrod engine.

As for the 355 replica, sure you can upgrade the engine and suspension but its still not the same. Your missing out on that awesome V8 noise and i'm sure the original's handling will still be far superior.

    BTW

Ferrari is my favourite with porshe a close second. Although from what I've read the Carrera GT seems to be a better car than Enzo. Enzo still cooler though.

  10. Sorry for the late reply,

anyway, the box is still there if you want. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be repairable.

As for the springs, he wants more than that.

Still have a manual steering rack if someone is interested.

  11. Hmmm, i gotta do something like that. I'm planning on pulling out my bent subframe after during January sometime. I figure since I'm pulling it all out i might as well replace the worn trailing arm bushes with urathane ones. Wheres a good place to get them from? I'm also considering the subframe mount bushings, is it worth upgrading those as well? I just figure i might as well do it all properly once.
