Welcome, I have a feeling after you own one of these you will never go back to a SS Commodore More comfy, less noise and just as quick. One thing I would say, drive a few e39 then you know how they accelerate from standstill. Some cars are just so slow, don't know why, some 540i I've driven are so slow to accelerate from standstill. I think it might mean something is wrong or or something is dirty.

I had a problem when idling cold and it was fine when warm or driving. Sometimes it's really rough, and the whole car was shaking. When starting from cold, it engine will die on occasion or the rpm would just suddenly drop and recover again. It always had these lambda control errors but there was nothing wrong with the o2 sensor, check the whole air-intake system and that was fine. Three times it was throwing up cylinder misfire codes. (This was over a 2 months period). Monitor the ignition coil, swap them around and it wasn't the ignition coils problems. In the end, we replace the Vanos seal instead of the whole Vanos unit, and all of these symptoms went away. http://www.beisansystems.com/ The mechanic the lambda sensor can only tell you whether it's too lean or too rich. It means something else before that is wrong but it's not detected so there is no easy way to find out what is wrong. Just systematically checking everything. Your symptom are very different from mine, then again same problem might have different symptoms and same symptom might have different problems. But people say the seals on these Vanos units don't last, the M52 engine has the idling when cold problem but M54 using the same unit also has this problem but the symptoms are suppressed. Even though this may not be the problem it will be worth replacing.

Maybe too late for a reply, but when that happened to me, I move the auto gearstick in the P position then the car started. The car thinks the auto gearstick is not in P or N therefore won't start thinking it's in gear. The dash even says P. It got be puzzled for 20mins then I suddenly realize about auto gearbox won't crank when in gear and it turned out that is my problem.

You can sell it to me for #100 each lol

As long as someone is aware or someone is looking into the problem, that's what my post was about. No need to stress and tear your hair out Cheers

Don't know how to contact an administrator but I get this when uploading photos to a thread "Upload failed. Please ask the administrator to ensure the uploads directory is available" Is this part of the problem or just something that was overlooked when moving to new server?

More expensive products will have quality control or companies that want to make it big, want to stay alive will have quality control. But we as consumers continue to seek products priced cheaply which is the reason why lower quality products exist. Just like how people want to buy sausage & bacon at a cheap price, not knowing or not wanting to know that it is only 30% real meat. When they see a sausage or bacon at twice the price, they think why would I buy something twice as expensive instead of thinking could the quality be better or could there be more meat? These cheap product exist because there is a demand for it, as we have noticed the quality seems to have gotten better over the years. This is due to the buyers knowing the consumers are not willing to pay for dirt cheap products that break tomorrow therefore do not buy dirt cheap products to sell them to us.

This is quoted from an interview with Li Shufu the CEO of Geely cars. One of the biggest and most promising car manufacturer in China. This is only one of two Chinese manufacturer who has International backing from well respected financier and investors. This is the same CEO who is looking to buy Volvo because he wants China to catch up to the rest of the world and certainly think China maybe on par with Korea. + I am talking about automotive, not inventions in general. If talking about inventions then it's the Chinese that invented gun powder not Americans. It's the Chinese that invested swords not Romans. But we are not talking about inventions.

and on the quality of Chinese products, they can make $0.10 battery or a $1 battery. It all depends on what the consumer wants to pay. Same goes for every other product, electronic, plumbing, vehicles etc You go to a trade show in China and you start talking about discount, they will happily oblige and the saying "You get what you pay for certainly applies here" Big brand companies starts to cut cost and use cheaper parts to increase share price & profit and at the same time reduce cost to consumers and yes you get sh*t quality but that is not due to the chinese making them. Big brand companies also do not invest a lot of money on consumers good because they know majority will replace them in a couple of years. No point in making a tv that last 20 years...

Must go to Milford Sound & Te Anau then the popular Queenstown, Wanaka. Also Fox Glazier, Catlins falls, then there is Kaikoura (Top ten international must go list) and stop by the Moeraki Boulders outside of Dunedin. In Dunedin there's Larnach's Castle, the must see Albatross also up close watching penguin in their natural enviroment if interested, and Otago harbour cruise to see the wild life. Some beautiful architecture like Otago Uni, Railway station, drive to the top of Signal Hill for a great view of the city & harbour. Then there is the Garden City, Christchurch with the lovely Avon river, Botanic garden, great Air Force museum and catch the tram while you're there. Haven't been to anywhere above Christchurch except for Kaikoura, don't think there's anything interesting up there anyway

To be fair, Pagani Zonda debut in 1999. Zonda Bus has been around since 1994. Zonda in chinese is Zhong Da Bus which is short for China Big Bus. So it's not a name they took from Pagani Zonda. Sure the quality & reliability is probably crap because the chinese doesn't have the know how compared to Japan, Europe or even Korea. and As crap as they maybe I think they might be one of the top bus manufacturers in China. People buy their buses

Hey Zenetti, Most or all cars do not have castor adjustments, I was told to adjust castor angle, it would have to be done by a panelbeater. But could his E30 for some reason have different castor angle on each side which contributes to the pulling left? The only reason I mentioned it is because I had the same problem with another car. It was pulling left 95% of the time. Tony

I think so lol Cheers

Just wanting to find out if the cylinder closest to the front of the car is #1 or is it the one furthest away is #1. Would appreciate this info if anyone knows. I have been getting O2 Post-cat limit reach error for a while now with a little trembling or rpm surges while idling and going in & out of neutral. These last few days I been getting Cylinder #2, #5, #6 misfire. So I need to know if cylinder #1 starts from the front or the back so I can swap these three coils to see if that is the problem.

no radio or cruise control + no horn + airbag light is on
tonylauno1 replied to tonylauno1's topic in Maintenance
opps, I should have mention that it's a e46 Also if it can't be repaired, I'm looking to buy one with the 2 pin smg connection. I am currently using my old slip ring, this 2nd hand one I bought from the states so I doubt it's economical to return. -
When turning the steering wheel I hear a couple of clicks, then when I turn the other way there was a few more clicks then the airbag light came on + no horn + no radio or cruise control. Borrowed a slip ring, plug it in and everything is working again so I have a faulty slip ring Can that be repaired? Shall I ask mechanics on Tuesday or is there some other place that can repair them?

Thanks for that. True, I'm in no hurry, will see if I'm lucky. Is your 535i pics posted anywhere?

I've seen three e34 on here posted by hellbm. These classic BMW are starting to grow on me eg e34, e30, e9. Thinking of buying a e34 540i in full leather (grey or beige) don't like black. Where does hellbm buy those mint condition e34 from, no one on trademe as a e34 in those kind of conditions? What are problems people have encountered with their e34 540i? Just getting an idea what the maintenance would be and seeing if I can afford to keep one

Thanks for letting me know, it's 375mm

I had used dent magician, I think he was based in Botany who also service the Penrose area. Different are will have different person, but they all went to the same training, pass the same test and get retrained. He was honest, will tell you what won't be perfect but you have to know where to look to find it.

came out of a early e46, should fit e36, early e39. What does something like this usually sell for?
