Hi All, My wife is selling her fabulous X3 3.0 petrol. We have had this car for a year and it has been an excellent buy. It has a very grunty 3.0 engine that works well with it's very capable handling. It is NZ new, is Titanium silver , black leather, has the rare Aero body-kit, and is fully spec'd. It has clocked 70,000 kms and my wife is the second owner. Being Bimmer fans, this thing has been loved! It is in like new condition. Contact me if you are interested!

Hi Matt, There are a few people I can suggest who could help you regarding the manual conversion. One guy who did it by himself is a guy called David Humphreys who is one of the directors of Dynatron car alarms on the shore. I met Dave about 6 years ago and he owned an arctic blue nz new 635csi that he had converted into a manual. He also added new springs and shocks to sharpen up the suspension. The end result was a fun E24. He ended up selling it and one of the members here bought it about 2 odd years ago. He did all the work by himself. Another guy I can recommend is Ross Lamb who owns BM workshop in Botany- he is a BMW independent specialist and has ample knowledge of this type of work- he converted one of his E34's into a pseudo 540is 6 speed manual. As you know, it is extremely difficult to get a NZ new, 635csi manual post 1985.' I have only seen one - it was a cosmic or cirrus blue example and it was a 1986. All of the rest were evidently auto. One thing that I notice too is that apart from the 'Half-line' 635csi's in NZ like your Alpine example, nearly all of the 84-87's have 'comfort seats.' In the UK and Australia, most have the BMW sports seats. Not sure why the NZ example's got the comforts. Regards, SS

Hi there, I remember this car when it came in - Tony Ramlose ran a yard next to Turners Auctions in Penrose 5-6 years ago (it maybe still there)and over a good year or two was bringing in a load of M-powered E30's, E24's, E34's and a number of other interesting vehicles. This was one of them. Was a little tired looking when it came in - has now been revitalised. It is a M - the Vin states that - however I am near certain the Schnitzer bits are all cosmetic (and as you pointed out has a M-technic bodykit). My question is why does car not have a M badge next to the speedo and which does it have an fuel economy guage? It looks like it has standard 635csi dials. In the early M6's there are no internal symbols to signify it is a M except for the M next to speedometer and tachometer. This doesn't have that.

Sorry Oscar, didn't mean it that way. It's just that I have had a thing for these old E24's and met the previous owner in 1999 who spent literally all of his spare time grooming the thing and making it like show-room condition. Seriously, the friend I have spoken about is a freak and this thing was a labour of love and at the time his total focus in life.. The car was a total garage queen when he owned it, and he only travelled a few 000 kms in it over a few years. The guy who bought it off him was a doctor who drove it everyday and over time the car kind of changed. I was probably harsh but this car was like new in 2001 and over time certainly looked like it had been driven regularly and was starting to show the effects of regular use. From what I know, the doctor fairly recently sold it to your friend. I suppose I was probably comparing it to my old Burgundy 635csi Highline which was probably in no better condition than this white car back then (in reality, probably worse). Overall, it is still a very unique car - it is very difficult to get a late model "half-line" , NZ new 635csi. There are only about 5 in this country, and they hardly ever pop up for sale.

Hi Dylan, Sadly the 635csi photographed is not as tidy in the flesh. This car however was in like new condition 10 years ago. It was owned by a friend of mine who is the ultiimate car enthusiast (who owns a stellar E39 M5 now) and when he owned it was like in showroon condition- yet had 100, 000kms on the clock. This thing has now been neglected - reflected in the shabby drivers seat, grazed wheels, and bumpers that have taken a knock. Sad to see one of the best examples of a 635 in the country back then deteroriate. That is why it is still sitting there for sale. Believe it or not my old burgundy 635 Highline last week sold at Giltraps for near what they wanted ( $27k!!). Showing that a mint car, despite having 220kms on the clock can still command relatively big dollars.

Yeah sure my friend is an enthusiast to the nth degree. Yoy may have seen his car for sale on trademe a few months ago- it was one out of two for sale in WEllington. This thing is like new. However, he is annoyed it has after-market exhaust parts (even if they once again look good, make the car sound sensational and are very new). HE wants this M5 to be completely original and his aim is to have it look like it was when it was brand new at Jerry Claytons in 2002 (it only has 63 km on the clock now). I am extremely fussy but this guy is the ultimate enthusiast and lives, breathes his car. It is his life and even the smallest things bug him...

This is my old car - she was a very tidy car when I sold her and one of the saddest days in my life! I loved that car- it was alot of fun too!

Hi I have a friend who has a like new E39 M5. However, the car at some point had an after-market muffler/ exhaust system put on this vehicle and he wants to go back to the original. I know it is a long shot- but would anybody have a set in good nick?

Hi Glenn, I have a question, is there a reserve on this auction? I presume there is, given that last time the car was marketed for more than double the new starting price. (I can't access t/me on this laptop so haven't seen the advert). Secondly, I have heard that the advert states that there are 2 of these in NZ. As far as I know, there are 4 (a black ex Uk example in Auckland, red ex Singapore car in Tauranga, and ex UK Daytona violet car owned by a member here, Bradin South Auckland). However, I believe your silver one, and the red one are the only cars currently on the road. Good luck with the auction. This is a special car! It deserves to be put in a collection.

I hardly ever add a comment to the spotted thread as I hardly ever see anything that is worthy of mentioning. However, today I was having lunch with my father and kid at a cafe at Karapiro near Cambridge and saw two interesting cars. One was a mint M Coupe in Estoril blue. ZMcoup was the plate. I believe it was recently traded at Coombes Johnston in HAmilton. A very nice example. I have subsequently done my research to confirm it was owned by a BMW CC member from Tauranga until very recently. 20 minutes later I saw a very well looked after E39 540i Touring in Lemans blue. Sat on Style 5's. Plate L0cum. Another relatively rare car in a desirable colour and nice wheels.

I use Autoglym products these days. I think it is sensational. I get it from Ross at BM Workshop in East Tamaki.

Hi Brent, I am intrigued about the seats. HAving owned a ex Sth Africa 535is many years ago and having kept a close eye on the 535is's over the years, I have never seen one with 'comfort' seats. I have seen them only with the BMW sports seats with the extendable thigh supports at the front. Were the comforts original or did you put them in?

Provided the body is in good nick should be a bit of fun for someone. The 1st thing would be to get a new timing chain and get some new springs / shocks. I would be panicking - the rule of thumb is to get a chain at around 100 k miles - and this has done nearly double that without getting a chain done. Zinnober red was the most popular colour in the old M6's and this car had the ultra rare original Recaros seats that generally only appeared in the early M6's. This has the be the cheapest M6 ever sold on trademe - $13.2k! A guy called Warren evidently bought it (from Auckland). Is he a member? Regards, SS

Hi guys, I have a friend who is looking to potentially sell one of his beloved BMW's. He has been a BMW enthusiast, especially Alpina's for the last 30 odd years and is looking to sell one of his special cars, his 1989 E34 Alpina B10. In Lazerblue Metallic and cream leather, it is a 3.5 that has been given the Alpina engine and suspension tweaks that made this a true 80's super-sedan. Sporting 260 bhp, this car was supplied new by Frank Sytner of Nottingham in the UK who was the Alpina agent during the 80's. The current owner owned this car in the 90's and bought it for the 2nd time approximately 10 years ago -illustrating the passion he has for this special E34. Even though it has now done over 300,000kms, this car has an exceptional service history - almost exlusively serviced with Ross Lamb at BM worskhop since it has been in NZ, and the car's performance belies its age and mileage. My daily driver is a 2008 Falcon with similar output. Even with modern technology, the Falcon is no match for the B10 in terms of performance and handling capabilities. This car performs very well. I am almost certain there aren't. But you just never know...it's amazing what you hear people have got in warehouses in private collections..! Alpina's in general are pretty rare, especially in NZ. However, there is a NZ new 840ci in Auckland which was fully spec'd with AC Schnitzer kit. It lives in Auckland and I am pretty sure is Avus blue with grey leather. Interesting enough, it is a 6 speed manual - one of only 57 in rhd with the 4.0 engine. Rare and very cool looking car.

Hi this car has the M-tech bodykit that was unique to the 850csi that also became standard on the 840ci sport circa 1997. A few 850i's over the years had their appearance up-graded with the body-kit. From what I know, this car has been neglected. Hearsay, but I had a freind look at this car closely and there were numerous issues to sort out. The thing about buying one of these is I think you have to buy a good one and this is translated to a higher asking price. You get a bargain with one of these early v12's, and it could be an expensive exercise in the long run.

I am figuring around $15-20k and I think you are on the money. It is a classic but in this market you have to be realistic. A lower mileage 1990 grey Highline from Wellington didn't sell at $15k earlier this year. These things like the E31 are kind of in a niche market now. When I bought it it had like a massive folder of receipts and I know the subsequent owner reconditioned the gearbox, replaced the whole suspension, added the style 5's, added a customised exhaust and resprayed the bonnet. The interior in cream leather is superb. I have never seen a another Highline 635csi in this colour (however there are a couple of 86's in Auckland) and from what I know only 1 M635csi in RHd was ever made in this colour. This is truly a special car and though I think the asking price is a tad unrealistic, it is a very nice example and I hope it goes to a good home.

Hi guys, As I may have mentioned about 6 months back, I was aware my old 635csi Highline was up for sale soon. Well it is now up for sale at Giltraps - I believe it was traded. A few of you have seen this car around in Auckland. The mileage has ramped up since I owned it, but it is still one straight car. Hey man, this does look like a very nice example. A guy I know from Cch enquired about buying a E31 recently and I advised he look at a car in Christchurch that is identical in colour to this particular car and he virtually bought it on the spot. From what I know, there are about 5 in NZ with this colour- Calypso rot. There seems to be some nice V12 E31's for sale at the moment - sadly for the vendors they are not moving that quickly. The white 850ci in Hamilton apparently goes like stink.

Hi Paul, I agree with you - I think nearly all the 535is's I have seen just had the m badge or were de-badged. Another place that debading is rampant is believe it or not, Germany. Having lived there for a little while, I was astonished how many M cars I saw that were de-badged. Perceived by some apparently to be way cooler not to be flaunting a badge. Especially as they belt past you on the the autobahn at 255 km/h! Total stealth!

Dude, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I am a sad arse 80's boy and I love it. Kind of partial to a 928 in GTS format too.
