With diesel being more expensive than petrol is it really worth it? It was borderline a few years back.

Depends on the vehicle and what you use it for. Our little 116d would have no benefits over and above a petrol. However, if you’ve got a medium to large SUV and do a lot of towing / long distance highway drives then I would suggest you would still benefit a lot from a diesel.

Can't imagine there were many(/any others) of these sold NZ new in 2016 (must've been special order, I think they'd stopped bringing in F11's after the LCI). Great colour combo and spec too.

Only two NZ new F11 LCIs, one petrol one diesel. So yup, unicorn.

But still over-priced and G31 is sooooo much better car.

what's with the lazy resprays on red cars? Both this and the iS have had the black stonechip on the rockers and rear valance sprayed over.

Hmm, dunno about that. I don’t think ALL E30s has the black lower sections ex-factory. I’m 99% sure my vert didn’t, looks like it was body colour over the stone chip / underwear.

if you went to put your foot up it to overtake something quickly you would only have the petrol engine power output, rather than the 250-260 combined HP?   Or does the car always save some battery for this type of situation?

The battery is never fully depleted, they get rooted pretty quick if that happens, but it’s about how much is stored above the minimum allowed level.

From my experience of the 330e it would start to re-gen into the battery as soon as it was down to minimum and into petrol mode. If you give it the full jandal into eBoost mode it will deploy all it has, which can be very little.

That said, the petrol on it’s own is reasonable in that 80-120 sprint if required.

  5. Yup, I was just going to say that. It’s a manufacturers rating not a legal limit.

I think the rule is something silly like as along as you can stop from 50km/h in 30 metres it’s all good.

Seen towing vehicles driving along pointing at the sky because the tongue load is so high from the boat / trailer / caravan being badly loaded.

  6. Whilst in some situations an increase in towing capacity would give an increased nose / tongue load that is not always the case.

What I have been lead to believe is that the option code 233 beefs up certain parts of he car, mostly around the braking and cooling systems to allow for the extra work pulling and stopping another 800kg.

However, as there is no change to the tow-bar design and the suspension and weight distribution with the addition of 233 there is no change to the tongue / nose rating.

I think the 270kg is 10% of 2700kg which is the standard tow rating, but nothing is said what it is with 233 addon  "increased Towing". like my car has.

The increased towing option code only changes the max towed weight from 2700kg to 3500kg braked. It doesn’t change the trailer nose weight.

Probably due to the folding tow bar design, and German engineering caution, the nose weight is not particularly high. The Aussie style box hitch design does give a much higher value.

Does anybody know how I can find the max tongue load for my F15 X5, it has the 3AC/233 code for INCREASED TOW CAPACITY and air suspension (7 seater).

Info lists the trailer nose weight which I believe is the same measure, as 170kg across all models of F15 X5 with the factory tow bar, 3AC. However, this does vary a bit depending on the build date, some are down to 140kg.

  9. Having spent quite a bit of time on the highways and byways of this great country over recent weeks, I have become aware of new variants of f**ktards on the roads.

Not only is the right hand lane the natural habitat of poor lane discipline, but now the centre lane seems to be a breeding ground for “centre lane cruisers” to pootle along at nowhere near the speed limit or indeed the speed of other traffic. Even being passed rapidly on both sides at once doesn’t seem to suggest to them to speed up or pull over.

I have observed that some of this group are also members of the “womble on to the 100/110km/h road at 50-60km/h” club. The give way rules onto highways are clearly not applicable, and how some of them didn’t get cleaned up in the process was a miracle.

Thinking about getting an old Land Cruiser or similar to use as an Urban Assault Vehicle rather than keep putting myself at risk avoiding these clowns.

What really bugs me is that it weighs over 1700kg, that's nearly the same weight as V8 Commodore.

The new generation of small BMWs now gets the full set of safety and driver aids, which they didn’t before. That would add quite a bit to the weight I believe.

lol - if BMW are calling something that is essentially white, blue then there's no end to the despair. Regardless, the colour allows us to see the rather Frankenstein nature of this beast.

Lol, I know men only recognise five colours but that’s a long way from white. Even in the potato leaked photos you can see the blue, yfr.

Hero cars and the promotional specs are mostly steered away from white as it doesn’t show the lines and surfaces at all well.
