just checked with Corky (Bell) and mike is dead right. water jacket around bearing is to keep oil temp down as it passes through turbo and probably extends turbo life by X2.

i had a pod filter and it didnt make any difference apart from induction noise. a few people here have had idle problems after fitting a pod filter.

wouldnt be hard to make out of exhaust tube. that said, im guessing the one you saw had some sort of turbo motor in it.

standard hose from thermostat to TD is perfect shape to go to turbo. only needed hose from turbo to TD. cost around $7. but you are rite you dont need it.

you can get an "additive" that you can add to your oil that will shut them up a bit. sorry i cant remember what its called but ill find out. i do remember its bloody expensive. and remember a slappy tappets a happy tappet ... most E30's have noisy tappets. between my tappet noise and my noisy injectors i can hardly hear my engine at idle.

dude its your car, dont be embarrassed about it. if everybody had the same taste we would all be driving around in white toyta corollas.

next time its going to rain, dry the floor and tape (use duct tape) over the black vents under the window wipers. check the car the next day and if its dry youll know the problem is in there .... . out comes the dash.

walk up to the next mint looking E30 you see, pop the bonnet and pull off all the "rubbery crap" thats behind the fuse box and have a look. ok so maybe the E30 owner isnt going to let you pull his car to bits, but trust me its there.... and lots of it ... if you have wet carpet in your E30 and cant find any rust, pull out your dash and look on the inside where this "rubbery crap" is, im betting you will find rust. water gets in behind it (rubbery crap) and cant drain so it eats its way out leaving behind a lovely hole. sometimes it eats into the vent part and from thereand then into the car causing an even bigger mess. would be an interesting survey to find how many E30 owners have wet carpet after rain.

thanks for your help guys. the problem ive got is that there is way too much pressure in my engine now due to the turbo and is causing oil to blow all over the place. i think when the turbo kicks in its forcing air down the breather and pressurizing the sump causing problems with my oil drain from the turbo. im thinking of plugging the manifold where the breather meets up and venting the breather from the sump to a catch tank (with breathable filter on top) anyone have an opinion on this?

does anyone know how to remove the breather that goes from the crank to the manifold? should i be able to push it down and pull it off?

downpipe is 3 inch and is very close to both steering column and manifold. ill take some photos when its not raining. give me a call when your back.

rite well heres a vid of my car blowing the turbo 325 turbo ... just checked to make sure it worked and i noticed its really bad quality, if anyone knows a better way to post vids please let me know.

thanks for the tip. ive been searching all night and i cant find any to fit e30 bmw!!! ive sent off a few emails so ill wait and see.

NEW UPDATE.. oil drain backing up froced oil past turbo seals and i think blew turbo... very smoky now. below is a list of cost so far, might have missed some things but most of it is there. i will also be posting a short vid of the car here later if i can figure out how ... you can see the smoke as the turbo blows haha..gutted

has anyone ever used head studs instead of bolts? and any idea where to find some?
