Welcome. A well maintained e39 540 has got to be one of the most satisfying cars you can own. IMO theyre one of the coolest BMW designs,the cockpit just wraps you inside & they go like a shower of sh*t. Like you,mines not a daily and every time I take it out I just fall in love with it all over again. Plus there are all sorts of cool mods to do to personalise them. Do it-you won't regret it.

Have you checked the battery terminals for gunk-could be dirty Tried jump starting? Battery light flashing means your batteries low but you may have flattened it if it was cranking but not firing.
