And so grasshopper  it came to pass that BMW like others  abandoned their soul and purity of purpose  as they bowed to the money mantra.

Ron aren't you about 80 years old? If so, surely you're old enough to realise everything's about money.

BMW might sell you the emotive ultimate driving machine lifestyle but in reality they are in it for one thing. You can question the global strategy but to do so smells of arrogance and shortsightedness. The company isn't catering to your needs so it must be going down the gurgler? haha yeah right

  2. ^ agreed.

We seriously need a one child policy and to shut down immigration entirely for a few generations.

    **I am not anti-immigrants nor anti-children, I'm anti-population increase.

What other big ideas have you got mate? There must be some real good stuff going on upstairs with gems like that

  3. Which is why it saddens me that new drivers now are just taught to mash the middle peddle and rely on ABS... modulation is no longer taught. Driving standards are falling because we're apparently no longer teaching how to drive under all circumstances (if we ever were). My friend's daughter's driving instructor insisted she left the traction control on during every lesson. In a 120 hp car... :-/

    on the contrary -

My flatmate just went to a driver training day at pukekohe with his work.

In the emergency braking exercise half the punters gently applied the brake pedal, failed to engage ABS and consequently sailed through the cones at warp speed. Amazing.

  4. In the last 12 hrs I have seen

    • A motorcycle riding up the pavement against traffic then cutting across 4 lanes to take an exit on the other side of the road
    • Stopped to watch a people mover take 3 erratic laps of a roundabout while the occupants discussed where to go
    • Followed a car where the driver decided the best way to navigate merge was to stop dead and wait till traffic cleared..
    • And finally minutes after that a car weaving within its lane hitting the curb

If I had been driving for the last 12 hours you could almost explain witnessing a large number of poor driving events, but no I have only covered 15km...

    WTF?

  5. Also Spark (New Zealands actual largets consumer of electricity) will be reducing copper landlines over the coming years to a much more efficient fiber.

I dont think we will see the cost savings passed our way however.

Spark's annual consumption was less than 200 GWH in 2014. Tiwai consumes ~5400 GWH per year - serviced mostly by Manapouri (~600MW)

Glenbrook steel mill, Kawerau pulp and paper and Fonterra round out the top 4.

  6. You have had metric time since about the 1700's when they first started work on an integrtaed and linear measurement system which later became S.I.

The silly thing is time is linear and constant but then try and divide it into a day and a year both of which at not consttant

    quite silly really

Not constant due to leap seconds/years?

Ignoring that a day is the time for the earth to rotate once relative to the sun. A year is the time taken for the earth to complete one orbit around the sun. Pretty good bases for measurement in my opinion.

My subaru outback 2.5 does 15l/100km around town. DRZ400 does 6l/100km. I might as well buy a V8 with those numbers.

  7. Contractual mistakes act is the relevant law-

    a) you entered into the contract aware of the sellers mistake

    B) fulfillment of the contract would result in a substantially unfair exchange of values

So you're gonna struggle to win that one in court. Perhaps try to find a middle ground with the guy, he might be ignorant of his position and therefore happy with a compromise.

  8. I'm in need of a torque wrench.

It will be used mainly for wrenching on motorcycles but it would be good if it was sized appropriately for cars as well.

Any suggestions? I'm not looking for the best quality and it wont get used a whole lot... I just want something that wont fall to bits in 5 years time.

    cheers

  9. I often end up driving on the wrong side of the road at night (I blame the horrible new zealand small and poorly lit roads around northland for that as well as because, there are no police every around, I am not used to driving on the right side of the road.

There are 2 kinds of people in the world my friend, 1 that have cameras installed in X, and the other that stay and sit back at Y watch the video feed from cameras installed in X, waiting for the right moment to jump out and attack the people inside the camera.

I hope I never meet you... Especially on the road
