Power is surging through my park lights when i lock or unlock it as my led park lights light up for minute
This is likely due to the LCM doing cold monitoring on the lights if they are aftermarket you will get this effect, (not related to the optical warning option)

Hi,
I'm just wondering if there may be a problem with my electrics of my car or if my car just doesn't have the correct functions.
I used a BMW Scanner 1.4.0 to recode the car to flash when its locked and unlocked. I selected the optical arming and optical disarming boxes, coded and tested but they don't flash when using the remote.
My car doesn't have a factory alarm but I read that it should still work which selecting these options?
Can anyone help out? BTW for a E46 Facelift 318i
Cheers
if its a jap import it probably wont work due to having the IR key/EWS system rather than an RF one.

nice! TV should work without any alteration, i think? Radio and reverse beeping are coding jobs , Nav will require hardware and coding.

their reluctance to firstly get the AA check done and their horror at the possibility of a BMWorkshop inspection.
i would have walked away at this point.
-
Hmmm it might not be worth it. I guess it depends on what the BMWorkshop says. Is there any way to hold dealers accountable for lying to people?
no because its just what they do. they probably don't know/care that anything is wrong with it.

I like the look of the vehicle but you are right, I am very concerned about whether it's a lemon or not. I spoke to the lovely people at BM Workshop and they told me that just doing the head gasket could be more than $1800. I might get the vehicle looked at tomorrow but only on the condition that the dealer is prepared to fix the expensive and more urgent problems or discount it further so that I can get the problems fixed. I suspect that the dealer will not be prepared to do either and in such a case, I'll ask for a full refund of my deposit which they used for my AA inspection and if they refuse, I'll take further steps to show how this dealer preys on people to the public.
1. i would say it IS a Lemon
2. it will have been a trade in so the dealer will want to get back what they paid for it, he will just wait until someone comes along and buys it without inspection for the same price.
dont waste your money getting bmworkshop to look at it more they will only find more wrong with it.

personally i would look for something else (there is quite a few out there)
oil in the coolant is not good and by the sounds of it has had a frontal crash at some point.
-
BM WorkshopHmmm I was going to have it checked out by the AA but you suggest a BMW workshop? That's unfortunate as I was not sure where to take it. Any ideas for the closest in New Lynn?
Am I wrong to expect a dealer to do a full service on the vehicle? They say they've serviced but not mentioned a full service. It's $8495 and the Warranty will be $1000. Plus finance and what not.

Im guessing the k's are quite high so all the more reason to have it checked properly
Don't trust any dealer to/have service/d it the very most they will have done is change the oil (probably with the incorrect type).

Hi there E36V8. I agree, it looks lovely. It's the first car I've ever bought from a dealer and by far the nicest I've ever driven or owned so I'm hoping everything goes well and I don't get burnt. My father is a huge Mercedes buff and he and I have been in correspondence and he's indicated that he would have preferred I got a Mercedes but I liked this vehicle more, especially for the price and the beautiful body and interior.
I don't think there'll be much wrong with it in the inspection and so long as that picks everything up I'll be happy! The dealer is not really willing to negotiate much on the warranty price or vehicle price either though which is annoying.
if your going to get the AA to look at it i wouldn't bother, most of them don't know squat about euro cars. take it to BMWorkshop (closest) if you want a proper inspection ... having said that at least you will have the warranty.
How much is it?

euro-Italian 100-130$ from memory ... comes as one plastic/rubber part
-
UK import so should have the euro nav (what you want), from bmw the maps are about $800 but there are probably copys floating around. may or maynot need coding to get it to work here .... someone else will be able to answer that.

Hi Guys i have the same setup as well and want to update so keen to know how you got on with units and price thanks. Bought a BMW X5 2001 from the UK but missing the CD Changer. Radio doesnt pickup channels very well and looks like the car had tints on the rear window that had been removed so damaged the antenna on the rear window. (Think thats why please tell me if im wrong.) Dont know much about electronics and how they work but 1st thing i want to do is get the radio working and ipod hooked. Any idea how i do that, Where i do it and at what price? I'm in Auckland. Seen some untis on trademe from a guy who sells a unit that plugs into your radio unit and then run the leads to the front moniter for Ipod connect and even Bluetooth. Anyone got one of these units.
if the antennas on window have been ripped off rather than just a small break then there isn't really a fix other than replacing the glass AFAIK.
Dice units for ipod intergration : http://www.gadgets4u.co.nz/

how long are the antenna leads? long enough to go to the back window?
Also once the android version of the e39 unit is out i assume this will work the same with it?
-
Hes charging like almost 1g to replace the bumper and repaint it etc.
just as a point of reference a brand new bumper would probably be at least 1500 from dealer unpainted.
-
generally with something of that age its time to replace the cooling system 100% if it hasnt already been done.
Possibly a partially/fully failed waterpump? (just guessing you will need to get it checked out again and just replace everything that they recommend)

Quick question -
A guy at work has an E39 touring with 4:3 nav (it's a jap import).
The screen has started to die.
Can he replace the entire unit with an E39 Radio?
Is this a direct replacement, or is there wiring needed to make that work?
Otherwise a replacement screen from eBay might be the cheapest way.....
Thanks for the advice
wiring is totally different ... HellBM should have a replacement 4:3 or if he wanted a 16:9 upgrade
-
Now the Dynavin DVB-T box is fully tested, works for all NZ freeview channels
Support subtitle
TV info
support high resolution 1080i
now open for ordering
$349 with Head unit purchase
$369 for DVB-T box only
Any pics or info on antenna setup?

I have the Mtec ones off ebay ... havn't seen this issue with them.
Can code out the checking on the LCM for you if you want.
-
Whats the year of the car, it is possible/probable that the Video module will not support 16:9 only 4:3, in which case you will need to swap out both the monitor and the Video module, it should just be a matter of plugging the new ones in, nothing else to change.

Yeah - I've got a BM24 tuner on it's way from eBay.de
Grant did mention those cameras, very tempted.
Do it, if you don't you will regret it every time you try to parallel park. Altho i don't have a monitor i'm blessed with PDC without it i would be 120% screwed, but maybe that's just my lack of judgment.
Come to this if you want to show it off abit

Nice!
For the radio consider getting a Euro tuner rather than band expander, may seem expensive but the expanders are horrible.
definitely look at getting the reversing camera .. grant (hotwire) does the hardware for $250 (i think).

Easy to resolve in 2 steps:
1. Remove MID
2. RetroFit Nav
PS: there's a few substeps in point 2
Have and still am seriously considering ... my rear folding seats are making it difficult from a wiring perspective.
-
i wish i had that issue! DAMN MID!TV in motion - what's that Matt? I went to TV the other night on the way home from awards dinner.
Got the "viewing while in motion is not permitted" screen
I must have F#@&ed up the setting the last time I programmed a nav unit in the car... which reminds me
How to reprogram Jap BMW radio to NZ frequencies..

stick the VIN of the car into that tool, will show the build date, likley that you dont have the world tuner.
