  1. NZ New, brand new - just bought it yesterday straight from the dealer, currently has around 50kms on the clock which is about the distance from the dealer to home then to work today!

    Congrats on the purchase!

It seems odd that they wouldn't have the appropreate digital tuner installed from factory, NZ does have an 'odd' spec of digital broadcast but at that price point it shouldn't matter, i would be asking the dealer what the deal is.

  2. Two cars back behind me was a highway patrol car, who after a minute or two of this nonsense put his lights on and went past me and pulled over the tool in front, who took about 30secs to realise a) there was a police car behind him and B) it was HIM they wanted to pull over.

this needs to happen more often. There is a difference between cautious and stupid.

  3. Hi M-Spec - thanks very much for that, however since this is a brand new car I would have though that BMW would have a MPEG4 card/option without having to go third party - or very soon all the cars they sell in NZ wont have a working TV (once analog switchoff starts)

So is the car an import or NZ new?

  4. Just need to convince SWMBO now...... <_<

    Good luck with that haha.

Give them a call anyway, maybe able to recomend someone down south.

There arn't a huge amount of people out there that do conversions and retrofits on i-drive stuff in NZ at the moment ... probably because its more difficult and expensive than the older systems. Offical dealer is likley to say it cant be done.

  5. Hi,

    have a look at this

    http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=35097

$350 for a software change on the radio this should give you full NZ capabilitys, the band expander will need to be removed and whatever they have cut into patched up. note: RDS wont work with an expander.

    for NAV

You will need to enquire but it is not cheap and does require hardware changes, it will be a 4 digit figure so factory this into the cost of buying the car. There is no quick easy way of doing this.

For your warranty make sure it is with a good company, some eg. autosure (whom are good) will now not give warranty on 7 series AFAIK. The dodgy companys have very strict terms and will often find there way out of claims.

  6. i seem to fly past alot of people doing an actual speed of 100 (GPS calculated) with the 107-110 indicated on the speedo with margin of error.

My point being that most people who are sitting on 100 with their speedo are only actually doing 90-95.

But in the end over a 200k trip what diff does 5km/h really make? will take you an extra 6mins? to get there.

As Graham said the real issue is overtaking, yes you maybe able to overtake at the limit sucsessfully but what about the poor other 30 cars behind you that get stuck when you use the entire length of passing lane for yourself.

  7. You may want to see if you can find one at a wreckers, altho alot are broken/missing.

To give you an indication on new price, My E36 coupe center undercover was about $450 new. And on the E39 there are 3 one for each corner of bumper and then one under engine/radiator, The 2 corners were $500 EACH (insurance).

Obviously the price will be different for your car so just get the Chassis number and call for a price. Just don't expect it to be a $50 peice of plastic.

  8. Hahahaha, you dont have to tell me that mate. But I guess pictures speak a thousand words right?

Uh you have just showed a pic of a laptop running DIS this is NOT the software/unit that this thread is about.

DIS is BMW Dealer software so of course it will work!

    Edit:

    Thanks for that explanation Tom!

  9. Thanks for posting this! very interesting.

I started having a play around last night trying to get DIS installed on a virtual machine, but seems to be VERY fidly and it is not documented all that well on the internet.

Does the software give you any more description than what you have screenshots of, for both Fault Codes and Feature activation?

  10. @ Tristan ... damn that photo i want that car.

For manual conversion there is more to it than swaping the box, if you must do it then get someone like ray to do it properly. Electrics need a little work etc.

Personally tho i wouldn't do anything that extreme to a car that is nz new and has a service history. (idk if yours is or not)

  11. Do you want cheap work done or good work done?

For good work, I cannot go past German Kolision Haus in Glen Innes. One of the only two BMW authorised body shops in Auckland

i have used both of these too ... recommended, especially if insurance are paying for it!
