Bummer Paul. I've got a nice straight 540 if you want one! After the way people have had cars wrecked lately, I might lock it in the Garage for a while.

Hi Timo Good to see you on here. Cain

Hoppy Birdy two ewe! I hope you had a great day.
-
Bad Luck Gus! That's an extreme way of not having me beat you in your own car at the next Grasskhana though. I knew you shouldn't get driving lessons from Tim. I don't want any parts thanks. I'll shout you a beer next time I see you too.

Happy Birthday Glenn. Have fun fitting those! have a  for me.

80s-early90's beamer affordable performance
cainchapman replied to JaKob's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, the SE have always been the High spec versions. But not from a performance perspective. Most, new iS's don't have any engine work done to them these days either. Not since the E30 really. -

Is it Blue? There are 2 of those up here. They are lower spec than mine. One of them is the 'body in the boot car'. Wouldn't want that one! -

You could get one of those too Paul. If you could find one. The LE designation makes it sound like an iL IMO. Bloody Aussies. -

Get a 540iS. It's got all the sh*t! So it, along with the E34 M5 are the fastest ones. 6.5s 0-100 and 155mph (limited). M5 is 6.2s 0-100 off memory. 15 more Hp and less torque. -
Seriously... Does it need traction control? My E34 has a button marked ASC. Then it's off.

Do you want something to drive in comfort everyday, or do you want a toy? A 5 series is the most universally useful car. Ever seen 4 adults in an E30? I'd look at an M535, E34 in that price range. That car in the photo, you wouldn't get for $15k. -
I'd have thought that it was a fair price for a car with those specs.
-
Cam has a great point. Dyno them both and quantify the differences. Then you can work on how to improve torque. HP is a function of Torque x Revs. So, if yours revs higher... Have you tested the compression of both cars too? Look forward to the results.

Yes, pulling weight out of the back will make a difference. But not a significance one in this case. It was more a point of removing weight from a high point of the car. Lowering the centre of gravity and point of inertia. That's why you get CF bonnets and boots. Get a decent battery, i.e an Odyssey or the like, which has a great power density and place it in the rear foot well and you've moved even more weight to the bottom & centre of the car. Sorry about the off topic. If someone does look into the strut braces. Ask for E34 ones too please.

Yes. There are BMW people in Auckland who will turbo your car. But it's not cheap. Nic's 318iS Turbo for example. Built by the same guys that are building the Hulme. Spend the same money on working the motor properly in NA form. You'll need to talk to the Ex-BMW motorsport guys, not your dealer.

That's a nice car. Lives up West Tamaki. Let me know if you want to sell it sometime. I had a chat with the driver one night. It'd be a nice toy.

That doesn't sound very easy at all. Carbon fibre is quite brittle, if the fibre is not running in the same plane as the impact. I'm sure you can make one. How long it will last is another thing. Why would you want to? There are much heavier things to find a weight saving. Get a light weight rear window. You'll see more of a performance increase (in acceleration, not cornering) I will look forward to seeing your new brace thoug. Gus :thumb:

Lucky Bugger. Cars looks good too!

Hi Surge That car should have an M42. Our 2.5l are S42 derivatives. So we get longer life from the block.

You can do it naturally aspirated. Call DCH Motorsport in Christchurch, see if you can buy one of our new 2.5l motors. 300hp (approx). It should cost you around $20k. Who needs a hairdryer on their car?

I don't have a problem with those 2 tickets for changing lanes (unsafe or without indication). I hate to say that the cops should be concentrating on the basic ability to drive courteously to the conditions rather than if you are doing 61-65 (where most accidents in town occur). At least there are no demerits to go with them.
-
It would have stone chips. But mine would have a load of rubber stuck in the wheel arches, that's for sure! The other downside to your collection Gus is the rego, warrant and insurance of a fleet of cars. It's bloody expensive.

I don't think it's an issue of a collection of BMW's or a McLaren. Personally, I'd take the Mac and drive a Civic as my daily driver. I used to buy cars and couldn't be arsed selling them, so you end up with a collection of nice cars (and bikes) you never really enjoy. It's like a job. "Do a job you love, never work a day in your life" The cost is irrelevant if you get the enjoyment from it. I loved my Morrie, Imp, and Torana (to list some of my original cars) and they all have massive flaws. But sh*t, they each had great points. Post edit: Raj (who owned the McLaren, drove a VW Beetle around as his normal car).
