  1. It'll be more expensive but go to a propper camera shop, not some cheap parallel importer if thats where you've been. The knowledge you'll gain will be invaluable, their warrenty and service backup will exceed some parallel importer and you'll actually be able to have a play with the cameras to get a feel for what suits you best.

IMO, Live view, rotating screens, HD movie functions etc are all gimmicks that you'll never use. Dont think ive ever seen a photographer use any of these TBH.

buying from a known camera shop is HIGHLY recommended imo. Come time to get it serviced, you may have issues if its parallel imported. With my old pentax DSLR the local repair agent wouldnt cover the repair under warranty as it was a parallel import.

I know im not a pro photographer, not by a long shot! but for me as a novice, i regularly use my live view, movie mode, and rotating screen.

The rotating screen is AMAZING for over the head shots or ground level shots.

I went with the old "get what feels best and has the features YOU want" and ended up with a Sony SLT-A55. Sure, the lens range is crap, but no other camera came close to being as awesome.

just my 2c. Personally i prefer nikon over canon, have seen much better results from nikons (straight from the camera, no post processing)

  2. Okay, still getting prices for doing my manual conversion and its getting WAAAY out of hand now!

Basically, parts and labour is somewhere around $3500 with a new clutch and lightweight flywheel.

As this is a daily car, i dont imagine itll get more than the odd track day for punishment i dont need huge amounts of clamping force and freakin carbon kevlar plates etc.

What im thinking is to get rid of the dual mass (as a new one is hideously expensive) is to use a late E30 M20 325i flywheel and clutch setup. Its been documented a couple of times, but im wondering if anyone here has done it and has any tips?

Itll be going on my M52 323i.

So far i know i need to either shave the back of the FW 5-6mm or remove some webbing from the block, and i need to use the M20 starter too.

Thinking a 2nd hand M20 flywheel and starter, new OEM clutch, get FW machined on both sides, balanced, and away i go.

  3. Hi!

My E36 needs to be manual. Basically, just moved to welly, and im wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a good workshop that would do me a manual conversion if i provide the parts.

Prefer somewhere with experience in E36's, especially doing manual conversions.

Anyone got an idea? Was going to send the car to HellBM (would still love to), but being without my car, and the 800 or so for shipping is making it a lot less of an option.

    Cheers

  4. im actually thinking of getting rid of the osram bulbs i have in my headlights and going for something better. They look awesome, being so white, but the light output it crap at best.

Recommendations for high/low beam bulbs that are whiter than standard, but have damn good light output? The narva bulbs i tried in my fogs were no better, but not sure what model they were.

  5. hope it wasnt in Mt Eden :o F'ing thieves, getting worse and more gutsy. Had a family friend's 4 x 4 petrol tank drilled and its gas stolen.

f**k that sh*t. Replacing gas, although a pain in the ass, is easy to do. Replacing a gas tank?! Screw that.

  6. lollies how else would i know it was definitely a JDM import, if it didnt have some engrish somewhere?! :P

I used a toothbrush (medium bristles), water and some clothes washing powder. Came up pretty good, and i was VERY disgusted at the colour of the water afterwards. I did use a damp rag (from the same mixture) to clean the wheel its self too, which apparently was disgustingly dirty.

    Edit

This pic shows the wheel better.

  7. Gonna be real obvious here and make a point of saying this (not just to the OP, but everyone)...

If you have a car, and either dont have it insured or dont have theft on the policy, GET IT. Its not a lot more money each year, but by god its a life saver when your car does eventually go missing.

Made this mistake myself, wont ever be having an uninsured car again.

Hope you find it again (and not raped/crashed), and they string the thief up by his balls.

  8. Saw those coloured viaos yesterday. Made me want to vomit. Im +1 on buying an Apple. I has Alu MacBook, and 27" iMac, never going back to windows again.

Also in saying that, DO NOT get an iPad and expect to use it as your daily/only machine. Its NOT a computer, and never was designed to be.

  9. Which is the engine that the Aussies made into the 4.4 ltr they put into the Leyland P76.

Yup, the RV8 is bit of a BLMC slut. Its been in a few different chassis's, in various different configs. Miss my old Vanden Plas EFI SD1 :(

  10. Hi

Ive got an e36 coupe. It came with very white headlight bulbs installed, but now the yellow fogs and park lights bother me.

Anyone got any recommendations for good bulbs (i still want decent light output) for the fogs, and something (maybe led) for the parks? Im weary of using random trademe leds as i dont want to be getting check control bulb errors.

They must be white though, not yellow or blue.
