^ Maybe your right they have never really been polished properly since I have had them. I just assumed they were clear coated.

Good to see the 'eye for detail' runs in the family

^ Havn't done it yet mate, but previously I have used Autosol polish and a non scratch scotch brite pad and some elbox grease and patience. If I had big enough cajones I would sand the clear coat off and sand paper then polish but I don't want to take that big of a risk, the clear coat is pretty decent at the moment anyway.

Cheers guys for all the nice comments. Hope I won't regret this Sorted a brass sleeve for my shifter along with a brand new rear shifter arm mount off pelican parts. Also picked up some OEM wiring tape from jono51 to tidy some wiring up. In the process of sorting some harder engine mounts and gearbox mounts. After that I just need to rip the stereo out (can't hear it anyway over the exhaust with no sound deadening) then make a splitter up for the Alpina bumper and cover the rear seat in some fabric since the rear seat isn't go back in then hopefully finish these wheels next week and we are all set for the Taupo track day basically. Can't wait.

^ My mistake. PFL Alpina ones are very similar from my eyes.

Looks great Dave, tyres make the car Is it Malachite green? Nice to see another green one getting some love.

^^ Just cleaned up the barrels with brake cleaner, still have to polish the lips too. End of the day it is a race (ish) car not a show car Here is a last few pics for now since I am probably raping everyone's bandwidth with a color comparison between the dark purple and the green, need to borrow my sisters SLR camera to get some decent pics with color pop. Will have the car home early next week to compare on the car hopefully. Cheers for all the comments.

^ Good luck mate, I was in the same position as you 2 years ago. Knew nothing (couldn't even change the oil in my car), originally wanted to build a car for the series etc, now I have done/undone/modified/adjusted everything to do with a E30 apart from a engine rebuild and know most of it off by heart. Make the most of all the help and discounts you can find in building up a car, they are worth their weight in gold. Soak it up all the help, if I hadn't have found this forum, it would've saved me a lot of money in the long run haha but knowledge and experience is priceless, along with all the friends I have gained from being on here. Best of luck with the car.

WILD @ John, I will reserve my final judgement till I take a pic with one outside in natural light, it is quite hard to speculate when it is a sitting in a dim garage, also looks tons better with the chrome lip around it. So far, I'm running with it. I have a few other colors sitting here if I hate it I wanted subtle wank-ness, if I wanted obvious purple, I would've painted them obvious purple

More pictures coming

JESUS CHRIST WHAT HAVE I DONE LOL Couldn't resist trying out the Homax Purple. I am sitting on the fence right now, here are a few pics of one center with one 'wet' coat of base done. Sorry for the slighty dark average pics, it is quite hard to pick out the purple with a camera. Opinions are welcome before I do something silly and paint another one

^ I agree, I realised real cars are way more fun to muck around with Also have been thrashing NFS: Shift lately, the game overall isn't really that bad as Apex said.

^ No not personally, Tech1's are pretty sort after now, expect to pay $150 ish. These Facelift Alpina ones are rare as hell, I have only ever seen one other for sale in NZ.

I'll be getting it, the only reason I brought a PS3

^ Nothing wrong with this post. For a minute I thought Sam was posting

^ Cheers Kerry, I will donate my testicles to science if I am not

Winner winner chicken dinner. God it is hard to get a good finish in a freezing garage and it's 6deg outside. Not perfect but perfect enough for me, the perfectionist.

Made some non related wheel progress today. Finished painting the F/L genuine Alpina rear wing in Tech1 wing style with a Platanengrun Metallic insert. Pics to come when the paint dries.

^ Wouldn't you be inclined to change your mind if you decided to paint yours purple originally then realised how much work and time is spent dissassembling and reassembling? and the fact I am not doing it again in a hurry haha. Now I see why most people pay others to do this haha. Clearly my threads are becoming an excuse for all you to rip the sh*t outta me, I'm kinda over it, why should I bother sharing my knowledge?

^ Good to know. Got all four wheels stripped and de-gasketed. Start sanding the centers tomorrow for primer if I get time before uni, aiming to have these clearcoated this time next week then mounted on the car before the weekend. In other news I am allowed to bring my E30 home and out of storage for the first time in 3 months. Can't wait.

Spent the afternoon cleaning one wheel and removing all old gasket sealant. Taking my time with this stage because the wheels are worthless if they don't seal properly, miles well throw them away. Used a scotch brite pad with some brake cleaner and a hose for general cleaning, then turps and a scraper to remove all the gasket sealant, finishing off by preparing all sealed surfaces by scuffing them up with 150grit sandpaper to give a nice key for the gasket sealant to stick to when I seal them together. Now starting to sand the centers to prep for primer. Pics to come when I have done all four.
