  1. LSD do have disadvantages too,in that with limited traction all round they can make the car understeer because BOTH back wheel are pushing, kinda like a locked diff. The v8 supercars have locked diffs so making pretty ugly to drive at low speeds'

The fact that it is hard to spin up one whhel tho gives awesome grip.Even with quite hard take offs with the 235,s its hard to break the back loose even in the wet...it can be done of course..... ;)

  2. the e34 s tend to be hard on the upper control arms or thrust arms, they can cause a shudder when braking,re your adapters they probably dont help,do you have a shudder at any other sped(usually quite a specific band 80- 90 km hr)

  3. apparently E.A.T chips work wonders for m30,s,try him he does other computer work so is sometimes a bit slow to respond. You will need to give him the dme no....

note that the yanks have a different system for their octane ratings, also would probably pay to tell him that its an non us car etc etc.....

  4. very nice car, looks like you have the mtech front lip too,i like the colour!!!The wheels definetly aint off any 5 series,no spacers required, from what i have heard e34s and 18s dont work together, only the late m5 came with 18s.....and i think they have different suspension than the std e34.Is the car NZ new or an import?auto or manual

  5. yep pcv valve, while you have it apart you may as well do every thing else in there,I think the intake gaskets are also a problem with the v8s,well the m60 anyway, its why some people swear by the m30 3.5 instead of the 4.0 v8 and we wont even mention nikasil here. So its not only the e38 but e34 e39 too.Did the e32 get the v8 in mid life???,and does the 3.5 v8 suffer the same maladies??Just keep thinking about that silky smooooooth torque :)

Cam the pcv is right at the back and most bimmers have the engine jammed hard back against the firewall to keep the weight distribution as close to 50/50 as poss, witness the e34 535 with its hefty battery under the back seat...in the name of weight distribution

knowledge courtesy research on the e34 540 six speed.........

  6. Those are all very good points Grant and excellent suggestions too..I was panicking to get to the track at 8 I drove up on the morning, had breakfast in taupo,i didnt realise that the track was so far up the road,at one point i stopped and consulted my little map again, then as you say nothing happened for ages.

I had no real expectations for lapping, but I think that is what normally happens on the Auckland days.

Perhaps the lapping things SHOULD be a a part of the day that is selected(or not)in the morning or on the entry, and ALL first timers are accompanied by someone experienced(not necesarily an "instructor").

we need some more feedback here guys- what do you want from your car club

  7. i agree that you have to have some theory but i know that everyone is keen to get out and drive thir cars too Even the braking and slalom exercises are good value cos you just cant do that anywhere else but a closed sealed enviroment.I think some frustration was also caused due to the fact that we had large groups and a small track. The wait at the braking exercises were minimal but frustrating.I am not really interested in the laps at the end of the day(not totally true) but would rather have spent that time doing more braking stuff,i was hopeless at that brake swerve, brake even tho i knew what i was supposed to do.Its just a matter of maximising the impact of the theory stuff i spose whilst letting every one out to do more drivingPerhaps we need to have a more sport/track day seperate from the driver training days. But we must be very careful as a club in case someone has an accident.I think keiths misadventure could easily have been much more serious.Just imagine if someone had been immediatley behind him and lost it on the oil.

  8. I was among the people who thought the theory went on too long, but after talking to Steve about what he was trying to achieve - it was clear that wasn't the right sort of day to do it in - all in all some good exercises though and some good fun.

Where is the middle ground Andrew? It was supposed to be a driver training day wasnt it?What were you expecting,how/what would you have done differently?I knew exactly what to expect,it seems to me that you guys were expecting something completely different???.dont get me wrong I know what you are saying I just cant quite put into words what i am trying to say!!!

  9. as long as they have an nz australian british or US standard they should be ok,for our sorta use fit is everything, you might find the first few times that the lack of periphial vision in a full face is a bit off putting. The name brands can be 600 or 700 (or probably more!!!!)I dont think bicycle or construction type helmets will do.When you try on a helmet do up the strap tightly(on the verge of uncomfortable and try to pull it off by grabbing the back and trying to pull it forward over the top of your head, and side to side, the helmet that is most comfortable and resists movement is the one for you.

  10. there is a guy in america who has a 535 twin turbo based on the alpina b10 bi turbo,he talks about 500 rwhp(375kW)...who needs a newfangled 4l v8 anyways :P

I wil see if i can find some links to that beast,I think he also started a similar project with a e 30 m3 as the recipient car...can you say sleeper?..
