  1. Stripped the interior insulation (tar like stick on pads). Weighed in at 10.9kg
  2. thanks. I assume you recommend him?
  3. Interesting So who's the best vanos repair shop in Auckland? Might as well refurb it proactively.
  4. It would be great to see that. What mods was on the car? Exhaust etc
  5. Car is back from Kayne Barry. Have done: > Single mass flywheel > Dual plate clutch > Inspection, seals and retainer strengthen on gearbox > Diff ramp up and bearings > 3.91 install There was good news that overall the car is in a good maintained stated and no signs of abuse (yet!) Its certainly picks up well. I see some nice power slides coming up. I'm seriously considering a tighter Z3 steering rack to help me keep it moving in the desired direction. We also discussed some future todo's: > Cooling systems refresh (pipes, temp thermostat, NOT water pump as thats generally ok on the M3 but inspect) > replace engine mounts (as if they sage the run on effects are material) > Replace a tired looking fuel line connecting to the bottom of the fuel filter before it cracks and bursts into flames! Some pics:
  6. Rear shocks: Have looked into this a bit more. Upon a visual inspection (non removed, so not 100%), and also after checking with autolign who checked their records, the E36 PSS9 rear shocks have an even offset for the bush centre pipe for both sides. ie they have the same lip on both sides. I believe this is different to the E46. see: http://home.comcast.net/~matthew.c.smith/images/PSS9/large/PSS9_18_big.jpg as an example. I've tried to figure out if the E36 PSS9 kit came with a washer or not from the factory, and thats 50:50 depending on who you speak too. Remember, because it has a raised lip on both side, for the bolt side, a typical oversize washer will sit above the surface of the lollipop as opposed to the normal flush fitting. Long story short, we will add a washer as a precaution shortly. Also, while the car was at Kayne Barries we talked about: Spring Rates. He also considered 300/300 light. A prior targa car he helped setup ran 550 front, 700 rear, no rear sway (helps with traction, and as unchartered tarmac corners speeds are lower than track you don't feel it pushing with no sway). This does depend on the shock valving rates. Once we get the cage in, we'll revisit this. Suspension arm running on rotor: Its his believe that its a malformed casting, and it needs sanding back (caution on grinder plate, as that might overheat joint), I tend to agree, and we'll progress down this track for the interim.
  7. Happy to receive a Miltek price, but would prefer Supersprint.
  8. Price for the full race (decat) mid pipes and race end box please. I think they have two race end box options, but i'm confused as to the merits of each (let me know if you know), oh, and the weights too please.
  9. Looking for a coffee up holder for my E36 like this: http://www.ecstuning.com/News/ES11384/ES196691/PriceAlert/
  10. He's gonna work with suspension tech (Chris Alexander) on the spring rate tuning too, as kayne has some specific e36 Tarmac setup knowledge here.
  11. Outside of a rough casting of the suspension arm, there is a small suspicion around wheel bearing been worn, and that these only get movement when hot. We'll test this once the car is back from Kayne Barrie. Will report back!
  12. Are the evo arms different?
  13. Ran into some small issues yesterday. When arriving at Torque for the dyno run it made a very metallic grind on lower speed tighter right hand turns (not full lock). Not in reverse. Yet it didnt do this when driving the night prior and bedding in the brakes. Once we pulled the wheel off, we discovered the right had suspension knuckle was rubbing on the back of the rotor here: This wasn't happening on the left, only the right. As its a cast item and a bit ruff in shape, we ground some of the raised bits off. So far so good as a fix, however haven't conclusively decided its resolved just yet. We've repainted the knuckle to see if it rubs again. In talking to Kaine Barrie its a common problem i'm told.
  14. Dyno test performed. All looks healthy at 172.5 wkw (completely stock). Anyone else done stock e36 M3 3.0 at Torque Performance dyno?

    Jack Pads

Does anyone sell these or similar in NZ? http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/BE36/BMW_BE36_TOLTOL_pg5.htm#item19
  16. thanks for that. Will Zip tie it soon.
  17. thanks, will look into that. Excuse my ignorance, if you spin it 180 degrees, wont the dial then be facing fwd? So, swapping sides is best? What's the consequence of having this installed as is ?
  18. Installed. Yet to road test and bed in. Hopefully next week.
  19. Installed. Yet to install rear braided brake lines and bleed. Apex wheels clear the Essex AP's by miles. Can shove my little finger inbetween.
  20. Suspension is in. Was planning for a refurbed and revalved PS9 kit (1x way adjustable), but the front shocks were too long enough. As a result i have PS9 in the back, and custom valved bilsteins in the front. We're starting with 300lb front and back and will tune it from there once the cage is in. Its height adjustable front and rear, and uses OEM spring locations on rear (non coilover, but still height adjustable) as thats a stronger setup. I'm treating this as a get started setup, and would like to go 2 or 3 way adjustable later. Big $$ thou... Chris from Suspension tech did the work. He's done 4 cars for us now, and always sets them up well. The car is setup quite high, in fact could be higher than factory. Reason being is that you need compression for targa, else you can bump yourself right off the road.... A few pics: Note the black ring around the centre. Thats the BMW OEM strengthening plate that sits underneath. Note the Turner Motorsport strengthening plate New wheels are on in prep for the AP Racing BBK install project for Sunday.

    E36 M3 Resto-mod.

Nice.I have its identical twin being converted into a targa car. http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/48433-e36-m3-targa-car-build/ Ps. I consider yours and even spoke to the owner, a pilot if i recall it.
  22. This is the weld test that Dan had to do for Custom Cages. I need to ship it back to the UK for them to certify his work. I believe they twist it until it breaks. Only welders which support a minimum twist strength get the pass certification.
  23. Apex 17" ET40 8.5" to clear my AP BBK
