  9. What you all fail to speak about is that if you have an accident and either you have not told your insurance company you have modified your vehicle or it was not up to wof standard with loose springs etc firstly the insurance company will not pay out and you can be sued very heavily in court, also if you read all the requirements for the virm, a vehicle inspector can reject ANY VEHICLE IF THEY FEEL IT HAS BEEN MODIFIED FROM OE ( STANDARD) WITHOUT AN LVV IN THE OPINION OF THE INSPECTOR IT IS UN SAFE, loose springs are unsafe and as Laurence correctly points out it is better to get the car all legal in the first place
  10. Hi Bruce, The rear suspension was in a right mess, most of the bushes were clonking badly, both rear springs were broken, the self levelling shocks were leaking and they had run out of fluid ( i did not realise until the power steering went stiff, same fluid resovior, so i got it towed in the end) I have removed the self levelling system and put bilstien shocks and new standard m5 springs on with all new bushes. The engine was odd because no service lights were on but the oil was really black, the spark plugs were worn out the distributer cap and rotor arm fell apart when i removed them so it had not had a service in a while, the engine runs quiet so no timing chain or tappet noises at present, mind you i have not covered really any miles in her yet there was also some other stuff as well, rear g/box mount, driveshaft doughnut, front and rear pads, broken front and rear bumper, aircon not working luckly just needed regassing, so a bit of a list. i carry out all the work as i was a qualified BMW mechanic in the uk I might have a trip up your way when the better weather comes

  16. Thanks Bruce, its always good to find out some history on the car, it needed some work when i bought it ( the rear suspension was absolutely worn out and the engine was running terribly but now all replaced it getting back to how it should be. It would be nice to catch up at some point in the future

  21. Thanks for that,it is a 3.6 i was looking for a m5 for over two years, had a look at a few all had been messed about with or been involved in accidents etc. i recieved a phone call from a friend who works for a bmw dealer in rotorua who said they have a e34 m5 they are going to sell. i was surprised a main dealer selling a e34 but i went down to have a look. it is a very clean car with full bmw history and nz new ( it come from Jerry Claytons in Auckland) it has a few stone chips etc but the car comes as standard. I have not seen any 3.8l in NZ, (loads of old rust heaps in the uk) but not two many e34 m5:s over here
