  1. Looking at trademe tonight, the owner is starting to get a bit nasty at some of the questions on this car, and looking at one of the questions it looks like theres money owing on it. Anybody thinking of buying this be very carefull.
  2. Welcome to the 540 club, you will enjoy owning one. With regards to the stereo my one does all the NZ channels etc but even with the 10 speakers the sound is not the best. My rubbish workhorse toyota celica has a better stereo !!!!! Yours must be right on the facelift change as it has the widescreen tv etc but no angeleye headlights. Looks the part though, nice clean example by the photos.
  3. Have you still not sold it yet Bruce ? I thought somebody would have bought it as it does not look that bad !!! Or have you decided to keep it forever. Must be nearly time to trade up to an e39. Nice m5 for sale in tradin post
  4. Even $12000 is nearer what i thought, what worries me is that mine is the same except higher kms and an import so that makes mine worth around $10 !!!
  5. To be honest i thought it would trade around $13000-$14000 retailing around $18000 with those kms and NZ new
  6. Good evening all, I have just had a conversation with a friend of mine over a trade in price he was offered for his car. He owns a black e39 540i motorsport facelift model 2000 with 76000kms on it, NZ new etc he was offered $9200 trade in on a 2008 545i. I thought this is a bit low, but not as much as he did !! Either they like a good profit or e39 prices have tumbled dramatically. Your thoughts please guys and girls

  8. The e34 m5 was fitted with 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rears and you would of thought bmw would know best when setting up a hand built car, and my one handled really well
  9. For anybody interested my old m5 sold for $12000 cash !!!! What a good buy somebody recieved
  10. Hello and welcome to bimmersport, you cant beat an e34 and there is plenty of people on the forum to give you good advice on your engine
  11. With regards to the power difference between the m5 and the 540, i have taken a lot of why the 540 seems faster because the m5 has a lot higher km's and as the k's go up on a car the engine components wear and the power decreases slowly. The m5 ran very well but i never put it on a dyno but i would expect around a 20-30% power loss from original which would put it around 250hp where as the 540 is 300hp so thats why it seems faster. What does seem strange is that the 540 at the minute is better on fuel than the m5 which has surprised me, and with regards to the steering it is definately heavier than the m5, but that could be down to these nasty tyres. As regards to the 0-100 time the m5 from new is 6.3 seconds the 540 is 6.4 but we all know that these figures are sometimes raised by the car companies from new but i am sure they are around the same. As for the driving experience i will post more when i change these tyres over
  12. Hi it was an engine dyno
  13. To be totally honest it has had some engine work done, the cats have been removed and we think it has had a chip fitted at some point, as we had it on a dyno today and it made 226kw so that is impressive. As to comparing it to the m5 it is putting out around the same power but the 540 is faster from a standing start, it has a lot better low down power than the m5. The 540 seems a lighter car and more nimble but straight line speed you could drop the m5 down and that is where the difference is in power, the m5 will out acclerate it from 80-100 but partly thats because it is manual. overall they drive very similar as under the skin they are much the same( as are all bmw's )but this has a lot more toys to play with and it does feel slightly tighter, but saying that the m5 steering is much better, this feels heavy compared. The only annoying fault with this one is the tyre noise which is horrible it has new bridgestone potenza's fitted and they are awfull the dunlops on the m5 were much better
  14. Heres the pictures of my latest baby..... [a ttachment=21156:756.JPG] Oh dear having a bit of a senior moment !!! have not said anything about the car !! Its a 2000 540i motorsport in the blue i like, one owner 78000ks full history. It comes with all the toys and has had all the usual faults done ( dash lights, cooling system etc ) so is all good Anyone know about the dvd player thats in the boot, i cant seem to get it to work !!
  15. Well what can i say !! Yes it is my m5 and he is selling for a very good price and anybody having a look at her will be very surprised at how good she is. I did trade her in for a car that he had hiding in the corner that he did not want to sell because he was using it !! saw something else he had for sale so went to have a look but spotted this in the corner ( will put pictures on asap ). As for the m5 someone really needs to buy it quick if they want it because it will not hang around long at that price, and if anyone needs to know anything just ask.

    Faded paint

Hi all you do is wash the car then dry it then polish it one panel at a time, you can polish the whole car at once if you like but i just do one area at a time. you then do not need to polish again for around a couple of months.

    Faded paint

Thats the man you need then, i have been using autoglym for years and it brings up faded paint up really well including reds.

You need to use a polish called autoglym it is used on aston martins etc and it will bring up all faded paint colours with no effort. You can inport it from Aussie as you cannot get it here.I have some here and if you are close to me you can come a try some it will do the job

  20. Hello and welcome to bimmersport. Z4 no good for me as i could not get all my women in the back !!!. But it would have to have M POWER !!
  21. I totally agree with Glenn on this. When i started out over 25 years ago i done a five year truck, then a five year car apprentiship before i was allowed to qualify in my field as a mechanic ( not a fitter as they call some of them now )i worked for ford, and Renault for over 10 years. I then went to work for BMW where i had to do a years training course to qualify me to work on them. We worked in immaculate conditions and they charged 40 POUNDS $120 an hour in 1993 so i dont think $80 an hour is so bad do you. People also forget that in N.Z if the mechanic makes a mistake they have to put it right at there own expense, and people do make mistakes, also any mistake with brakes, steering, suspension etc will kill you and we work with machinery that can do serious damage to you every day, jacks, welders, lathes etc. From what i understand with Glenn being a specialist, and very good at what he does $80 an hour is a small price to pay for piece of mind driving a car that has been maintained to the highest standard

    Bmw e34

Thanks i will call you in the morning if thats ok
  23. What a pity my m5 did not sell i would have bought it off you now, looks a really nice car and an unusual interior
  24. Make sure its got a full service history and take it to a bmw specialist to check over ( AA ones are not good as they do not specialise in bmw's, also look for leaks water and oil leaks, i would also go for a New Zealand new car, but that is just my opinion, there is always some debate on this. Also go for a high spec car as will hold its money better also check suspension well for noises.Hope this is of some help
