  1. Re the xeons just make sure they aren't HID. As if they aren't auto levelling apparently they are an illegal modification.
  2. Still only one - changing top Everyone knows girls cant drive
  3. I've always just sweated it out and lots of sleep. When you can't sleep - exercise. Do things like: Run on treadmill with heavy clothes on. Drink lots of orange juice. Go to sleep with loads of blankets on. Drink lots of water. If you have to drive anywhere, heaters on. Drink lots of orange juice. Hot soup - mmmm chicken soup and bread.... Drink lots of water. Usually I clear up in about 2-3 days. Unless its actually an infection - stupid tonsilitis.
  4. It could have simply been a placebo but the two times I've used 'Gull Force 10' in my car it has seemed less powerful and I know it's used more fuel. Only by about 0.1-0.2KM/L but the difference is there. On the Auckland motorway cruising I can get about 12KM/L if there is limited traffic. This usually brings my usage to about 10.1KM/L from Hamilton. Used Gull and could only manage a best of 9.9KM/L. That was two trips in three days to Auckland. As I said it could have been a placebo effect but as a result I won't touch the stuff anymore. Could've been caused by the fact that the car isn't tuned for it I don't know. But I'm happy with Shell or Caltex 95 so why change.
  5. Saw one of those on the roads yesterday. Very nice from the back, but the front is horrible. I got a good look at the back of the car as we were stuck in a huge queue of cars, but once I got in front of it I just ran. That sort of ugly. That photo doesn't just doesn't do it justice. Luckily I saw it through the mirror otherwise I'd of been turned to stone. No Jokes.
  6. Congrats on the baby. Reading that post I could just imagine the situation. "She's going to need a comfortable ride, though there is a chance that she make a mess of the leather... Damn I wish I had a roof rack..." But seriously congrats. Now you've gotta share that love with the BMW, just don't forget which one comes first

    tinting

I seriously don't see the point in going any darker than 35%. If you want it darker use sunglasses. IMO 35% is dark enough. I don't want to be the person who plows into your drivers door and puts you in a wheel chair just because "you couldn't see me bro". IMO mods like illegally tinted windows, cut springs/illegally lowered and tyre stretch (another pet hate - also believe it should be illegal but well off topic) should carry minimum 28 days loss of licence and car impounded. My reasoning for this is that you have willingly put the lives of other people at risk. You also blatantly disregarded the rules with which you attained your licence and drove the car on the road. I don't see why people can't see the rules and just accept them or go through the proper channels to correct what you obviously see as a problem with the system.
  8. Think the best I've seen was on chasers - can't find video at the moment. But telling your wife it's over on breakfast television was gold.
  9. Why bother. We know we have the better cars. They're just too blinded by our brilliance to see it
  10. I love the fact that the second guy hasn't entered a plea. Like he's going to plea not guilty. I'm still laughing.
  11. You are exactly right 235/35/19. I was worried about the (hubcentric ring I've been told that's what it is) not being correct. But they were perfect. They mags had apparently been on an M5 (which I think after listening to the guy was just an M-Sport 540i) so everything was meant to fit perfectly and it did. Even gave me some new wheel studs with them. The EDC DOES make that much of a difference. Just like with anything though, don't take out word for it. Slowly try it for yourself. I'd hate for you to go out and think you can take a corner like a mid-80s F1 car. If you want to see the difference drive along a straight road. Feel for bumps, turn to sports mode, feel for bumps. Then find a corner you know, take it without and then with EDC. You'll know immediately the difference. I've looked briefly at changing the filter to a higher flow filter but I experienced real issues with my Celica with a pod filter, I changed back and the problems went away. I just don't think unless you are seriously looking for more power you need to worry about it in a 540i. Do you really think that BMW sat back and said we'll restrict airflow for shits and giggles, it might have been designed to quieten down the engine but I'd be willing to bet performance wouldn't have been sacrificed enough to make the pod filter a worthy investment. If you want more noise remove the bulbous things attached to your exhaust (I haven't done this as I'm still wrapped with my car, but I've been told by the mechanic who used to do work on my car when I lived in Hamilton they would only be there to quieten down the exhaust). Then again there is something to be said about beating an HSV with a car that quietly sits while they roar and spit beside you. Yeah I love them. Really updates the look of the car. I've also got some angel eyes installed as well. Sadly these were installed before I bought the car and as such I have the invoice somewhere (full history) but it is in Japanese so would take me ages to find the right one. Will try over the weekend though. In the mean time the only part numbers I can find are as below: BM052S-R (and -L respectively) A quick google search has been fruitless but then I'm at work so had to be careful about how much I used my google fu.
  12. Link Here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=200316065 These mags have come of My 1998 BMW 540i. 2 x Yokohama S Drive Tyres 225/55/16 approx 6mm of tread 2 x Bridgestone Regno Tyres 225/55/16 no tread. The Bridgestones were on the nearly bald when I bought the car in October. Since then they have worn quite severly. On one the belt is showing through on the shoulder. The Yokohamas were recently put on the car when I bought it according to an AA Inspection I got when I bought the car they had 7-8mm of tread on them. I travelled ~10,000KM on those 4 tyres before they came off my car to make way for my new wheels and tyres. They come with all 20 wheel studs and a centre cap removal tool (see plastic thing in the foam in the photo. The foam has a whole in it to allow you to place the thread of the spare wheel holder through the foam and stop it rolling around in the boot. They are a stud pattern of 5 x 120 and have BBS IS20 written on the inside behind one of the spokes. Wheels are in Morrinsville, Waikato and I can arrange drop off with in reason. Any questions please contact me on 021 162 5369. I may not answer immediately as I could be in a meeting so if I don't leave a message and I WILL get back to you.
  13. Ok so I took some photos with the new wheels. You'll have to excuse her, she is a bit dirty as she has just had a day of gravel and hitting a bird at 100KPH which blew a high beam bulb :'(. Which reminds me to warn you that 540s (or at least my one) seem to attract birds. ~1 hour after ownership I dented the bonnet from hitting a bird at 100KPH, hit me square on between the drivers side headlight and the grill. Also don't hit possums. I had a choice of possum or pot hole a couple of days after getting my mags. Chose possum. Bad choice. Broke the fibreglass front splitter. Probably going to be expensive to fix. I haven't yet had the time to find out. All in all - LEAVE WILDLIFE ALONE. Your baby will thank you later. Anyway close up of the drivers front mag: And a profile shot: I think good call on the 18s. 19s are a bit big really. I would have loved to get these in an 18 but a friend found an awesome deal for me and I couldn't turn them down. At the time I thought that an inch wouldn't make too much difference but it does. The good thing is that I don't really have to use the S-EDC button anymore as it's firm enough through the corners. Though if I'm really pushing it I will.

    A hard night

Jim was at a pub with a couple of his mates. After a small few he decided he'd better make his way home. Coming round a bend he was pulled up by a cop. The cop approaches his car and taps on the window. "Evening, just state your name and number into here for me please." Says the cop. Jim thinks to himself "Oh, bugger here we go." As he's about to do the test another car comes screaming around the corner and rolls into a near by paddock. "Stay here." Says the cop "We'll deal with this when I've sorted that car out." So Jim waits and waits and after 15 minutes decides "Bugger this, I'm off home." Off he trots, gets home, parks in the garage, toddles off up the steps into his house, drops his keys in the dish, climbs into bed beside his wife and goes to sleep. 3AM there's a knock on the door. Jim's wife gets up, looks at her husband who is passed out on the bed and walks to the door to answer it. "Evening ma'am." Its the cop who pulled Jim over. "Sorry to bother you but do you know a Jim?" "Yes." Says Jim's wife crossing her arms "He's in bed asleep, I'm his wife." "Do you know if Jim has been pulled over tonight?" "I don't believe so." She says "But I'll ask. Hold on." She wakes up Jim "Were you pulled over on your way home tonight?" "No why?" "There's an officer at the door asking about you." "Not me." says Jim Wife returns to the officer "Says he wasn't officer." "You sure?" replies the officer. "Well I asked and he said no. But I can check again if you like." Wakes Jim up again. "Jim he's pretty certain that you were pulled over tonight." says wife. "I'm telling you I didn't." Says Jim "Alright" says his wife. Back to the door again. "No officer, he's adamant he wasn't pulled over tonight." "Alright then" says the officer "Can you do me a favour then, just open the garage door so we can check a few things and we'll be on our way." So Jim's wife grabs the door opener, presses the button and glares at the cop. The garage door opens up and the cop says "Hmmm... Just as I thought." pointing to the garage. There sat the cop car parked neatly in the garage.
  15. I had the exact same wheels on my 540i when I got it. I have just upgraded to 19" wheels as well. I'll flick up some pics when I can (probably tonight when I get home). They're unbeleivable. Really hard to explain but I get a wierd chest when I look at her now. I think they might be a bit too big as you loose some of the comfort of the car. But it makes it great through the corners. Also - don't get directionals (or maybe just the Falken FK452s that are on the mags atm) they're rubbish in the wet. Also they spin far too easily (though that could just be the power of the 540i).

    LED Bulbs

I suggest you look up the correct types of LEDs then. A friend has a torch that runs on only 4 LEDs (CREE LEDs if I remember correctly). We use it for possum shooting. Produces massive amounts of light and uses far less power than a standard bulb. See here: I reckon a set of those as headlights etc would be perfect - especially if you continued to run them off 12V.
  17. That last one forgot about the playground where Johnny fell over being ripped up because it was unsafe.
  18. I'm gonna have to get some of these. I didn't even realise it was possible to get them for the rear. I'll just have to throw out my LED tail lights then I suppose. I have to admit the guys an idiot. But that's not the cars fault. Problem with this car is that it will probably go to some idiot who will sack it and put some 20" spinners on it or maybe just trispokes or trispoke spinners. Why were they even invented?
  19. I'd say that straight away. I can't stand Eyelids. I just don't see the point. If they weren't meant to have that particular part of the light available it wouldn't have been in the first place.
  20. Pics or it didn't happen. (Above pic doesn't work) That's far awesomer than a horse.
  21. I know this is gonna make me look like an idiot. But as far as things go. It isn't that bad. I mean the guy needs some help re the whole manual cc thing, but it's not entirely without taste. I reckon the side profile of the car looks good. I wouldn't buy it myself (I have a 540i what do I want one of those for ) but it's certainly not without merit. The "M///" really doesn't need to be there and I thing they've pushed the racing strips a bit far with running them over the number plate mount. Also who knows he could have had it professionally painted, but the professional is a muppet. I know of at least one painter around my area who couldn't paint to save himself. Long story short. It's not that bad. It could certainly be worse.
  22. From Here: http://www.cracked.com/blog/7-images-too-b...at-totally-are/ This stuff is just cool.
  23. I got a WOF last year 4 days later I pulled the car into the driveway and left it there. The brakes had begun wearing down the backing plate They also hadn't been making any noise either (though my brake discs had turned a rather dark shade of grey:) )
  24. QFT I was reading somewhere (long time ago) that we are the only left hand side of the road driving country in the world to (still?) use this rule. Hell we kicked out School C because we it wasn't broken. This one is broken and we won't fix it.
