  1. Why are Asian imports seemingly "tainted"? Last time I checked, the cars are still all made in the same place.

Your right they are built in same place, just funny specs sometimes. Like the jap ones with funny cloth/leather uppolstry, had a jap E36 325i with weird blue cloth and blue plastic trim and local content zf auto gear box. I also had an ex Singapore E36 M3, with all the fruit. Was fine exept ac core in dash rotted - Dash out to replace. People said to me others had trouble with imports esp with electrics from those really hot humid counties. All just opinions I guess.

  2. I had very worn RTABs in my E36 M3. Running semi slicks, going around sweeper at Puke was diabolical. Turn in then half an hour later the rear would follow and then go too far, so had to dial out, then it would spring back so I had to dail in.... Awfull! Same at Hampton.

Got brand new evo RTABs and vorschlag limiters, felt amazing! Precise Stable and predictable.

However exactly the same lap times.

  3. Who knows about this: Group N spec:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-BMW-Motorsport-E36-M3-S50B30-Group-N-race-car-ECU-chip-set-Gr-N-Gruppe-N-/151238118732?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item23367e8d4c

On the face value it looks like a simple and cost effective extra few HP ?

I'm running that guys 3.0 Group N chips in my race car/DD with stock cams. Good improvement pulls well right through to the higher rev limit. Think the remap of the VANOS is probably more noticeable that HP increase.

At my door in 6 days for $140NZD had it running an hour later.

I bought it because at least its factory BMW so will have some safety factors built in esp for running 4000 - 7500 rpm for 15 minute at a time.

  4. Yes apparently "fault fixed" was specification of parts/materials/ tolerances of units built over a 20 month period. So party to blame but combine this with weasled oil caused faster lunching.

Hey all just interweb guesses not BMW official media releases.

Changing oil often can only be good. And warranty is the key if you can't afford a freaking huge repair bill

  5. Warning for all you M57 owners and N57, mates X5 M57 twin turbs just snapped the timing chain and totally lunched the motor valves ect $12k. Google that and it's not uncommon. Fault supposed to be corrected 10/2010 onward. Possible long oil services to partly to blame. Disiel blow by watering down oil viscosity.

To check timing chain (at back of motor). Step 1) remove engine .......

  6. Its only like 160 hp NA, 8 seconds to 100k so not anywhere in the league of an e36 m3 more like a 325i at best. They were cool in their time, based from the 1981 Renault Fuego (barf).

My mate had a Fuego Turbo! A real space ship in its day i tell you, good fodder for my 1984 Cordia 1.6 carberated Turbo. Almost as cool as my uncles Isusu Piazza.

  7. Great Job! i did this on my S50B30 not too long ago and bought the S62 cup washer for behind the splined sprocket housing. I couldn't slide the sprocket off as it wouldnt slide far enough to get it off before it hit the front of the head.

Thought it was a B30 Vs B32 thing, as the Besain instructions are all photos of the B32. But looking at your photo you havent got much room to slide them off the cam either, i assume your replacing them as i think i can see them in your first photo on the opposite end of the table from the schooner of wine...

Please let me know how you get on or with a photo if you have a clean hand free when you get to that.

Good luck with he rest of it!
