  1. Its been a while since I posted anything so thought I would share a vid of a recent track day. Its the second time I have driven on a track, last time was 6 years ago, so excuse the poor lines etc

Project wise things have stalled since my little one was born and I have distracted myself with another garage project.

  2. In the last 12 hrs I have seen

    • A motorcycle riding up the pavement against traffic then cutting across 4 lanes to take an exit on the other side of the road
    • Stopped to watch a people mover take 3 erratic laps of a roundabout while the occupants discussed where to go
    • Followed a car where the driver decided the best way to navigate merge was to stop dead and wait till traffic cleared..
    • And finally minutes after that a car weaving within its lane hitting the curb

If I had been driving for the last 12 hours you could almost explain witnessing a large number of poor driving events, but no I have only covered 15km...

    WTF?

  3. Its a bit different. in this case as the onboard computer detects a test in progress and modifies its operating parameters to generate a pass. This goes against the intent of the test and standard being tested for. A direct cheat.

This behaviour is not uncommon in various industries as to standardise product comparison across the board specific tests are done which can be detected by the test item due the specific criteria of the test.

Anything with an specific target for fuel/energy consumption, emissions even noise level are open to these kind of cheats. VW were caught on this occasion.

  4. The little silver compact who ran a red light in Otahuhu this morning because you thought you could out run the truck who had the green light. Didnt consider it was 2 lanes that had green did you. Your bloody lucky I dont take green as go but always wait a few seconds first. Even then it was close enough.

RED MEANS STOP FOR F!&K SAKE!

  5. This was the Chinese guy and had been here for 3 weeks on holiday in a rented Ford Ranger.

The thing that got me is they both ended up colliding in the ditch off the road. The kiwi pulled left, brakes and took to the ditch to avoid.

Why the F did the tourist follow him all the way to the accident scene??

Another unfortunate reality of drivers not used driving on opposite sides of the road. In a panic situation normal reaction is to steer for the ditch, in his case he reacted accordingly only it was the wrong ditch to aim for. In his native coutry the ditch on the right is the place to escape.

  6. i think that is in onehunga? im not great on auckland suburbs yet, learning now i am coming up more and more often. if so, could have been the one.

Its Otahuhu, close but not quite. Otahuhu has its own driving rules based on the prinicpals of driving as slow as possible with minimal acceleration so that when you stop suddenly to perform a random 48 point turn in peak traffic the person behind will hit you at a slower speed. Safer for everyone really...

  7. Yeah no problem.

How we usually do it is create a part with the surface finish required. Suspend or support it on pins in a mold and cast silicone around it. Split the silicone into halves to leave a cavity in which you mold the part. Can do as you say but the desired surface finish may be harder to achieve.

Either way the cad is easy enough. Can give you both models. Will have a play tomorrow to see what I can come up with.
