All sorted, turns out the fuel pump was ok, the problem was the 7 pin connector under the throttle body had some broken wires and there was no signal to the fuel injectors. I rekon it was only just hanging in there as I had an intermitant problem with the engine shutting down without warning. Running better now than before. I only have the Haynes manual which is not very dependable. Thanks for the help everyone.

Ok looks as though the pre/pickup pump is in the tank, and I got the external one rear passenger side. I only replaced the fuel filter a week ago. So its getting checked at the mechanic I didnt feel like getting doused in petrol again this week after replacing the filter, actually it was the E32 that doused me in petrol the E30 was ok.

I wont be able to check till tommorrow, but suppose I have the internal pump under the back seat, would that mean I would have the second pump at the rear wheel as well? And would I have to replace both pumps or could i just replace the in-tank one with one of these....? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-BMW-E30...sspagenameZWD1V Thank for your help, just trying to get an idea what parts I may need.

Hi, My 88 320i wont start, not getting any fuel but ignition system seems Ok, fuel pump relay and fuse seem ok too. I am confused about E30 fuel pumps from what I can gather some have 1 in the tank and 1 under the seat, some 2 in the tank and some just the 1. I dont know for sure yet if I have to replace the pump but if I do I gotta do it before rego, soon. can anyone advise me, thanks

The stalk switch mechanism appears to function ok, so would I need to check the wiring and connections at the switch? If the problem was the wheel speed sensors would that affect any other functions, obviously the speedo and instrument cluster works. Are the wheel speed sensors expensive?

Sorry Its taken me a while to get back on this subject, I think the gearbox I was looking at was unsuitable. The conversion kit you have looks good but I am in Sydney otherwise I would bid.

Thanks for the input, I found this link which is pretty straight forward http://www.nice-wheels.co.uk/BMW.html Originally I thought I would just stick with the bottle caps, but they are really dull looking and dont fill out the arches ,problem is I bought a brand new set of C-drives.

I checked all fuses and there is nothing out of order, apart from the cruise control ECU I am not sure what else to check.
-
They looked good, split rims too.Oh well, thanks for that.

Hi, Will these fit an E32 735il, I am uncertain about the offset; Front Tyres and Rim : 225/50/R16; 7J, Offset +33, PCD 114 (5 stud) Rear Tyres and Rim: 225/50/R16; 8J, Offset +33, PCD 114 (5 stud)

Ok I will check fuses tommorrow, I got a feeling they are ok but I will check the Bentley and see how it goes.

I recently picked up a 735il which is great , but the cruise control does not work, nothing happens, so I was wondering where to start or what sort of things usually go wrong with the cruise control function? If anyone has any thoughts on the subject ?

Thanks, I will try and find out for sure as this guy who is selling it does not seem to know much about it. Is there any advantage in having a gearbox from a later model besides probable lower mileage, are the later ones any better or worse?

Hi there, I am looking at a Manual gearbox from what I am told is an 83 525i. I have an 88 320i which I want to convert. Does anybody know what type of gearbox this is likely to be and if it might be suitable for an E30 facelift 320i, it needs an input shaft. Is this likely to create any problems or should I source a gearbox from a later model?

Hi, Just thoght I would answer my own question as it probally applies to most models, the brake fluid resovoir plugs into the master cylinder via 2 rubber gromets these are available from BMW dealer for $15 each that creates a pretty firm seal for the resovoir.
-
Recently picked up a 90 735il, and I noticed the Brake fluid resovoir that sits on top of the master cylinder is a bit too loose and looks as if it has done some leaking in the past. What I would like to know is, can this be replaced or fixed or would I have to get a master cylinder with the resovoir intact. I also need to bleed the brakes as the fluid looks pretty murky. Any ideas? thanks.

I have just purchased a 90 735il, I hope I have made the right desision, gonna pick it up this Friday. I had to get a car and was running out of time, the 735il was the best car I looked at within my budget. I will try and post some photos next week.

The E28 535i always appealed to me but the one I looked at last week put me off I was getting bad vibes from it, like someone was murdered in it or something and they used some industrial strength bleach to clean the leather. I didnt like its stance and it had crappy tyres. Auto 540i' s here for around the 15-16k mark. Actually I remember talking to a guy here who said that his E34 540i was cheaper to run than his E32 735i which the 540i replaced. I am getting similar mileage with my 320i 4.27 diff. average about 10l/100km dont do a lot of urban driving, but mileage is noticeably worse. I will look into the 24 valve 525i, so is the Nikasil an issue in OZ or NZ, it has been a problem in the US and UK as far as I understand.
-
Some interesting points you raised there rxsumo, I am aslo looking at a 735il but I wonder if electrics aside I might be paying more in running costs. So e32 or e34 as these cars are easier to find in good order. I had forgotten about the 525i cause I thought I would regret it being somewhat under powered, fuel costs these days adds to the uncertainty of long term viability for thses kind of cars. Do you think with a 735i I am likely to run into more problems than a 535i
-
A 540i would be real nice but here they gennerally go for an extra 4-5 grand. My E30 is a Jap import and its been great, but there seems to be animosity towards Jap imports here thats is unjustified, especially when you consider how much some of the crap here is going for.

Getting back to the Velour interior on a 88 535i, leather is standard as far as I know, would Velour be an option? To me a 535i is decked out in leather, I guess it could be retrimmed, but low mileage manuals with extensive service history and so on dont show up too often here..............................................................................with velour trim.

Ahhh I see, the situation in NZ looks better than here, 1st your on a bunch of relatively small Islands, where here you got one big Mother of an Island. So I think cars here probally tend to be higher mileage and cop more heat, cracked dashboards and so on. Also the NZ dollar is worth less so we are in fact paying a lot more, so theres an incentive to stay in NZ rather than come here! Just kidding.

I am thinking about checking out a 88 535i that from talking to the owner has been very well looked after with full service history from new and only 1 previous owner. It is all original I am told and Manual with under 130Ks. The thing I find a little hard coming to terms with is that its got Velour interior. Wasnt Leather Standard? I was wondering what do you make of that?
-
Seeing you like the 5 series, I was wondering what would be your choice 93 530i or 90 535i are there any serious long term problems with the V8 in terms of running costs or Nikasil issues? A 540i sounds good but I am scared of running costs.

The fact that used car prices here are inflated makes the desision process more difficult, some of the cars I looked at, the sellers were asking almost 4 geez, and I think geez its little more than a parts car with 5 months rego. A decent E34 535i here is around 6 grand upwards, but I am sure there are cheaper ones. On a side note has anyone had any success with LPG conversion, maybe an E32 or something.?
