  1. So I presume there is a sensor connected to the Cat, if I were to determine if the sensor is working correctly then it would be fair to assume that the cat is stuffed. I recently replaced a fried O2 sensor, I dont know how long it was not working but may have also contributed to the Cat overheating problem. If I go forth and remove it at some point I dont know if it will effect rego, but those stainless steel centre pipe jobbies look good!
  2. Welll here is the photo, TWS eh, where abouts were they made? I can see now there is some obvious differences, but the ones I got are the odd ones out..
  3. So straight through, same as free flow, such as remus, supersprint and so on? I was wondering if you replace the Cat with some pipes or do you add some other tuned device prior to the muffler? In my case I got a remus. Its just that I have seen if I remember correctly companies such as supersprint selling bits of exhaust pipe intended to replace the cat, if i am not mistaken. sorry I am little vague on the details.
  4. If the catalytic converter is restricting exhaust flow due to some degree of blockage, is that likely to make the car run rich or lean? I dont get smoke but I think I get higher than average carbon build in the tail pipe. I got 104 k on the clock and shorter than recomended maintenence intervals. Carl, What is the difference between adding resonators or a couple of straight pipes?
  5. LSD, M-tech kit, is rear spoiler ect....
  6. I have read conflicting reports on wether removal of the Cat improves performonce or is detrimental. I have a free flow exhaust fitted what do you think the effects would be from a performance and emissions perspective?
  7. So is that indicating an internal problem with the Cat, in that case maybe its not doing its job anyway? What about ripping the Cat out is that a bad thing to do? Actually the problem may have originally occurred last year, when I had an oil leak from the oil pressure switch it took a while for me to locate it. On long drives I had oil streaming down the pipes and across the cat, there it would just sizzle and burn.
  8. The Overheat light on the sevice indicator near the rearview mirror has been lit for some time now, I am too embarrased to say how long. I have since flushed the coolent system, replaced O2 sensor NGK one, thermostat and housing gasket. What I would like to know is what variety of problems does the Overheat light indicate. And is it sometimes a matter of the car overheating perhaps on one occasion then the light just remains on until it is reset?
  9. http://www.eurocarmotorsport.com/frame_usd.htm shipping cost approx. USD180 and the header cost USD317.88. We have only the steel type and no ceramic coating. If you confirm to order it, please wire transfer the payment to below info Eurocar Motorsport performance exhaust header These appear to be a possible option, for Right hand drive only. I would expect shipping to be express at that price,1-5 days but I have not made further enquiries.
  10. Yep, I plan to check with a dealer eventually maybe this week some time. I will try and post pictures today. The center of my wheels are not identical to either of the photos you posted topless. but again very similar. Possible they were not originally built for the E30 and accepted a different cap. I think the offset may be 25mm as opposed to 24mm. They have E25 stamped on them? The photo's should clarify things a bit, as it looks as though the centre caps may mount differently on my wheels.
  11. I will check it out sooner or later, I am not in a hurry, not now anyhow as I think I have stripped the thread on my engine oil sump . :banghead:
  12. Its a bit confusing, I will need to find out before I buy some centre caps off E-bay. they can be bought new through Alto BMW in Sydney. at $122 each perhaps I can check with those guys and see if the caps actually stay on. I think the centre caps will fit I am not sure if they will lock on. Are the centre caps for the 14 and 15inch rims the same or different size for E30?
  13. I have a question regarding the 1 piece Basketweaves made for the E30, I assumed they were made by BBS? I have some 4 lug 15 inch version which I was looking for a centre cap for, I called a BBS distributor and sent them some photos. They got back to me assuring me that this was not manufactured by BBS on account of there being no logo stamped on them. To me these rims appear identical to others I have seen, except for a single small threaded locator hole positioned between 2 of the bolt holes. So was this type of wheel manufactured by several companies and if so who might they be? Any ideas?
  14. Hello folks, I am looking out for a single 15 inch 4 stud, BMW BBS basketweave Alloy wheel. I only need one but would consider a pair if anybody can help. I am in Australia by the way, so that would need to be factored in.
  15. Yeah yeah, I pretty much drive bolt upright like a dork anyway. Well then, just to recap on the spacer biz, I could only get about 8mm difference from the original position before the steering wheel lock ceases to engage and the horn wont work, so I guess I will just live with the original set up for now.
  16. Thanks guys, All done, the spanner did the trick, I am glad I did not persist with spinning the rear wheels I might have been there all week!
  17. The 323i is a wreck and the guy at the yard said he was pretty sure it had a LSD in it, I was thinking maybe I could salvage it, I dont know what ratio it is, but then again what about the manual gear box would that bolt up as well? I could probally just take the whole thing off his hands would be easier but I dont know if I have the space.
  18. Does anybody know if a LSD from a 323i E21 late model early 80s will work in a 320i E30?
  19. Thanks Surge, dont worry about e-mailing me a copy, I have a Haynes manual but have misplaced it due to recently moving house, I will find it today somewhere I am sure. Spinning the rear wheel yesterday arvo seemed pretty fruitless, I will try the 32mm spanner by the water pump, and let you know how it goes. :thumb:
  20. Thanks for the info. I might give it a shot, an inch or so might not be much difference, but a minor improvement at little cost and effort. :thumb:
  21. I got an M-tech 1or 2, I have not removed the steering wheel but it would be interesting to see if one could be machined up. Are the Momo spacers specific to the fit of thier wheels?
  22. thanks for the reply Gus. Will I have to remove anything to gain access to the crankshaft and is there any particular method to spin it?
  23. Has anyone here used a spacer on the steering wheel of an E30,I would like to have the steering wheel a little closer without cramping my leg space. If so, can one be made relatively easily or can they be bought at a reasonable price?
  24. Hello Bimmerheads, Maybe somebody may be able to advise me on what I should be doing here. I thought I would have a go at adjusting the valves on my 320i, this is the first time I have approached this. Having removed valve cover, plugs and so on, got the right rear wheel jacked up, the car is an auto and I dont think it has an LSD as I can spin the rear wheel freely. When I spin the wheel I cant percieve any movement of the cam lobes. I probaly spun the wheel 30 revolutions or so, would it make any difference if I jacked up the other wheel or put the whole back end on axle stands? How much do you have to turn the rear wheel before the camshaft revolves? Any help would be appreciated.
