  1. Made some delicious fudge and a nutritional milkshake with the m43 during my lunch break

30 minutes in and I realised my E-torx set is at a mate's. So I haven't taken the head off yet

If it has a cracked head I'll probably just park it in a corner and pretend I don't own it, or I could put a manual m44 in it or m42 and it'd still be a pile of garbage

I'm doing super well at being an adult and the missus is super happy about this

  2. Ran a cooling system pressure test on the swish new 318. Then it hydrolocked on starting. So it certainly leaks past the head gasket on a dead cold motor, but is okay when warm. Might do a gasket. Not sure if I care.

Found that amusing, did some donuts out front of the workshop.

Took the X5 home instead. Way nicer. No idea why I buy all these e36s

I need to assess what level of detail 2k cup looks at. Maybe a badge change might do it?

They'll be none the wiser ;)

also early 316i had thinner door glass :)

Is this true? Imy not going to admit anything after I measure mine and fund you're pulling my leg

  4. I'd personally go with the earliest body you can find. My very early 316 has no abs, ac, or electric windows, has the lightest heater matrix with no selectable recirculate.

The only issue would be getting it past scrutineering with an alloy block 6 cyl, 328 brakes and vented rear rotors

Finally installed the M3 rear sway bar into the 328 which now completes that suspension job F+R. The M3 one is only 2mm larger so I'm not going to notice any difference but having a matching set is nice.

In the process I learned the 328 has a heavy-arse vibration damper bolted (and tethered) to the exhaust... has anyone removed that to see what happens? Seems like a bit of a kludge to me.

I've had them with and without,  it may suppress certain frequencies that you will never notice.

  6. I drove to Aucklandto get a manual conversion and m42 that I don't need because all my e36s are manual

So the only logical thing to do was commit to buy another e36, so I suppose I'll go get that tomorrow

I keep saying I don't like e36s because they fall apart inside and now I have 4 again

  7. M52 b25 runs the 2.0 manifold I believe and some very boring tuning.

The difference in real world torque is negligible, the m50 is the nicer to drive of the two.

The rod to stroke ratio is certainly better with the m50 but with such piss poor cam specs and low rev range your advantages of tdc/bdc dwell time and cylinder filling is really not a lot at all.

As far as I know the valves are the same between both variations of 25 and the b28 also

  8. I made my own brackets etc, and  Hyde kit didn't suit me.

Mine was running a PWR water to air cooler under the intake manifold

You don't need an oil feed for blower.

You will need to have a blower bypass valve

It won't make big hp with an sc14, but will be an improvement

Turbo can be done, low mount with an oil scavenge pump is the way around the dump pipe issue

Wouldn't bother modifying the 2.5 internally, you could safely run 3-350hp on it with a proper tune

  9. The most economical e36 I had was a manual 328, also the best to drive.

My manual 316 (m40b16) is much the same as the 328 around town, but hungrier on the open road

My auto 320 and 325s have been slightly better than my auto 4 cylinders overall

If the cooling system on any e36 is maintained and normal maintenance carried out any of them except the m40 motors will do big miles.

However, the interiors fly apart and they love a good rattle.

Brett's e46 328ci is really good buying, a much more refined car than an e36 and  nicer to live with. Driving dynamics are fantastic

Most e36s you will find have worn out standard suspension and do not really give you the fizz. A good msport 328 one the other hand is a lovely car to drive and wI'll not handle like old porridge like a standard one

Most of my many BMWs have been very cheap to maintain, but you must choose wisely
