I had all my door cards done not so long ago, They melted the plastc tabs off from the back removed the cloth and scrapped away the glue. When these were all made the glue was made from a recylcled material, little did they realise over time this would degrade and just turn to dust. Anyway they recovered mine in a material of my choice and it was put back in with cupscrews, Now they look bloody fantastic, Cost me $60 each but i think the quality of the work that was done and the final result was way worth it.
60$ each that sounds very reasonable. yea i saw behind my current cloth its all brown dust particles now aye. Hopefully i can find a place n the north shore that does something like that

Yea dude, very happy with it! Glad I went down the way I did even if I have a load of crap in the dash now with the ISO adaptors and so on lol.
I'll show you some time. Now to do some research on speakers.. can't wait. Although this car audi stuff is a little confusing lol.
Good work. If its still not sitting flush. remove the obc unit and the wires for the stereo are behind there. With mine i pulled down gently while sliding it further in and it seemed to work perfectly.

On an early E36 the panel insert was attached to the door panel by melting the plastic over the back. Only way of taking it of was to break them by pulling hard, and then finding some other method e.g.: nuts and bolts to put them back together, or you just use good old glue.
Not sure if the later cars have a different system.
thanks for the quick response. At the moment i've managed to get half of it off slowly. By pullng and sticking a blade behind cutting it apart slowly.

Atm im trying to separate the door cloth panel from the actual door panel. Is there anyway To do this properly or will it just take time and patient, carefulness not to break it?

decided to install a proper alarm nw but just lookign to see if i can find if my car was prewired. According to lots of sites i've looked at even tho i don't have a button in the boot saying it was prewired, my car should have the 12pin harness somewhere as most places say that cars after 92 had them. as we have rhd in nz would it be under the glovebox or under the steering wheel? atm i've taken both sides apart to have a quick look but no obvious sign of one.

I had my box out the other day and as long as you have a long enough blade on the screw driver you should just be able to screw it out (philips). If you are taking your glove box out be careful when putting it back in as there are two lock tabs at the top and if you don't have them clip in properly you will end up with the front door sagging on your glovebox.
managed to get it out after all with some patient and a long screw driver
cheers

I would suggest putting a good quality alarm with remote in your car. If its done correctly you wont need any extra actuators and it will also be more reliable.
Just had a look under my glove box to see if my car was prewired for an alarm but i dn't see any connectors. I checked my boot but don't see any stickers or anything indicating it was prewired. Aren't jap imports prewired?

I have a screwdriver like the one in the bottom right of the link below. It lives in my "awesome" tool drawer, reserved for those tools that do a task that no ordinary tool can do.
http://www.tradezone.co.nz/catalogue/produ...mp;productid=75
guess i'll wait til my dad gets home to see what tools hes got. Doesn't like it when i go prowling through his tools as i tend to forget to put somethings back sometimes:p

Hi,
Currently trying to remove my glovebox to give it a very good tidy up but i can't seem to get at the last screw.
in this image http://www.bmwe36blog.com/image-viewer.php...lovebox/image01 it would be screw F that i am unable to remove due to the angle and the door of the glove box?
Anyone got advice on how to get it out?

Hi guys looking to install a basic keyless entry system into my bmw. had a quick search on the forum Link.
Will the wires be the same colour? and also
will be installing something similar to this.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-253428463.htm
also i've noticed that some cars maybe need a addition acculator or something for the central locking to work?

very nice stealth setup so far:D just put in my new head unit today also. Took a while as there wasn't much room behind the head unit so the wires were jamming against the back. I found that when i took out the obc unit and while i was slotting it into the space, u pull down gently on the wires behind the obc unit which in fact are for the headunit. just a little advice that mite help if u have the same problem.
also probably need to get an amp to run the front speakers as my fronts are considerable lower than the rears maybe due to the fact that its running tweeters and speakers off the head unit so not enough power running to them.

DO NOT MODIFY any metal in that area, it's a no go area for WOF. Too close to shock tower and seat belt mounting points. Drilling a hole for a PK screw is OK, but do not cut any metal away. The rear parcel shelf (metal) is structural.
I'd be doing what Jason (ISLE69) has suggested
okay. thanks for the info. will be getting a set of 4" speakers soon
-
ohh my family has like the same boat except the 605 version of it haha.
-
You can get decent JVC speaker's and they fit the into the "nokia pods" if thats what your talking about. I have them amped running a pretty low wattage and they sound all good. I would recommend doing the front speakers in the kick panels first as they make a huge diffrence.
did u have to mod the speakers by getting rid of 2 of the screw holes? because the original ones in there only have 2 screw holes for the speakers as it is?
-
I had the same problem on my primera. failed last month, " steering rememdy play r/h" took it to my local mechanic and $150 later it past. Didn't actually know what they did but i will assume just replaced some parts? so i guess it may cost u a bit more for the bmw.
-
decided that im gna drill into the metal and mount them from the bootside.
-
Just wondering if it is possible for me to somehow fit a 5.25 speaker into those. Im guessing they are currenty 4" ones in there?
-
i presumed uve installed it on the front bottom kick panel. By the sound of things, the speakers are probably too big for the allowed space, though its 5.25 hence the speakers touching the panel.
Several things can be done including -
removing the kick panel
putting spacers between the kick panel - might look ugly as it doesn't quite sit flush.
modifying the kickpanel - cutting it up and placing the speaker covers onto it
yea probably will end up doing the latter option. i'll sort it out once i get my head unit.
cheers

You guys are making me not want to claim insurance on my windscreen, even though it's mostly f**ked.
Smith and Smith North Shore in wairau park did a good job on my primera. No leaks, very tidy. Guess it depends on what mood the person is in when doing it lol
-
Just installed some new 5.25 speakers in my bmw. But i think that when the speakers actually get running the middle part of the speakers may come into contact with the kick panels... what problems will this cause? Haven't actually got my headunit yet to test it but i just wanna know if i should make some modifications.

It's also for the reverse gear "warning chime" on Japanese import cars. May have already been unplugged.
thanks for the info mark. has cables under the dash to plug it in. so mite as well.. although that beep can be annoying sometimes
-
On e30's, I think they are outside temperature warning speakers. Not sure about e36 though.
hmm oh well guess its doing no harm i'll just leave it as it is.
-
Interntal alarm speaker?
hmm i wasn't aware that my car ever had an alarm? could be...
-
Cleaning out my car not and cleaning as much of the interior panels that I can just to get the car looking clean again and found this thing
i assume its like a speaker but im not sure what its for.
Under the steering wheel.

and before u push the head unit in fully before you can't touch behind it, try and make sure the plastic from the wiring looms/harness is on the left hand side so it makes it easier to slide the wiring down.
