  1. Are you looking for a road car or race car, project or a garage queen? They don't come up for sale very often, and quite often without having to be advertised in "public".

I was very disappointed to hear that the best E30 M3 road car in the country has just been sold and is now off overseas... sniff, sniff. Hopefully the owner has a new car in mind that will be even better than the last...

The NZTA are about to update the CarParc data so I will be able to see total numbers in the country once that info is released.

Any idea where Denny Hulmes M3 is? Is it still owned by the Jerry Clayton guys?

  2. Remap, Quaife. Winning... and TBH, would be a proper fast car, with some decent suspension would be near M3 performance, possibly faster in some circumstances due to the low down and peak torque... out of unpredictable corners etc.

Was eye balling this when TM window shopping last night. Do want.

Can be much faster than the M3. There's a video somewhere of a remapped 330d out dragging a CSL.

  3. That's quite true, they're made to be run at 7/10ths+ or so hence the unhappy pootling around town.

Guess the newer F10 represents a rather different if not better choice?

You'd have to say it's a better all round car, but there's something alluring about mashing the pedal on the V10 and peeling out from a stop...

  4. A mint facelift 'stripper' with low KM and mint condition would be desirable.

I think essentially, we are on the same page, as this is what I was originally getting at. But i'd have the 18's, as I think they look better ( as well as the other benefits which come from the smaller rim ).

But i'll disagree on your last comment re: the CSL being the only truly collectible E46. History will look very favorably on the lowly standard M3, it will be regarded as the greatest car of it's class.

  5. For a 'normal' M3 I reckon; 2003.5+, Nav H/K audio, 19"s, and personally give me half leather. I accept 3 pedals will continue to demand a premium, rightly or wrongly.

(Regarding 2003.5+ though, if the bearing recall has been done, unless it's one of the really late ones with the extras previously discussed, what's the 'real' difference?)

That Nav unit is going to be a waste of time in the long run, and will look goofy sitting in the dash, being useless. I'd probably agree re: half leather.

Prefer the LED lights in the 3.5's. Also as it's the "facelift", it will potentially be seen as more desirable. Also, didn't they get front strut braces?

  6. It's car that only really seems comfortable going 7/10th's +. It's not at all happy pootling around town ( nor is the fuel consumption ).

As with most of theses cars that you can pick up for cheap, you have to remember it was once a $200k+, high tech, flagship car, so expect repair bills to reflect that msrp.

  7. Graeme Hughs did my e30 roof rust and job. The job turned out quite nicely.

They do take their time on things if your getting it done cheaply but their work is great.

Ballpark jooles your looking at 5k. Thats about the quote I got for the e30 back to mint condition which I think is very reasonible for what your getting. He showed me a nice VW bug he restored and I was very impressed with the work.

They've got a kickass VW Kombi transporter in there at the moment.

  8. I took my E30 Touring down to Graeme Hughes Panelbeaters on Barrys Point Road to have a look at. They said it would be about $600 + GST, and that was taking the paint down the A, B and C pillars to the crease line.

I can't remember the blokes ( owners ) name ( it's not Graeme anymore ), but he was a good dude.
