Sometimes Brands are Important. Every time Surviving Crashes are important. I would pick an 90's BMW over a safer new Honda/KIA. off topic: nice price on the car. I am in the market for a good e36. wasn't expecting to get something decent for that much. are you considering selling yours by chance?
-
@Andrew and Dave. Thanks. I will do that. Actually it took the police about an hour to get down, So I waited.(Yea I know, should have asked tat tourist to hitch me a ride back home where I could got one of my neighbors to pull it out, both of then have trucks). One of my neighbors has a law enforcement background, she came by the other day and said the same thing, that I should go up the the court next week and ask for the legal aid lawyer to defend me and prevent the court giving me a fine. Yes, I think that was me! Are you the same bmw driver that was stopped by that tourist? Would you really consider NZ Roads, conditions and driver habits to be worse then South America? It cant be that bad, I have noticed what you said in Auckland and the big cities but not much of that here. On the "your not going to pass me" subject, I was once in Auckland few years ago being driven by a friend in his little car, there was a regular white jap van run by most tradesmen going slowly on the left lane. My friend speeds to pass him (we had to take a left at the coming intersection). Guy in the van slams on gas and creeps ahead of us like a mad man within seconds of us passing him, he stays near our car for a few seconds as if he would ram us over the road, then he speeds more pulls up right in front of us as my friend hits the break. All this over 1 lousy car length in a 50 zone.

Thanks Blue. Yea, I got a clean record. It happened at such a odd time that everybody is on a holiday. I'll go up to the town court house this/next week and see if I can speak to the free lawyer.
-
Could be. sh*t happens sometimes, should have just walked down and called a tow or one of the neighbours to pull me out with their truck. Maybe I should write to the judge, pled guilty describing the incident, and hand over my lisense in the letter? probably will be a months suspension, a $150 court fees. I have a clean track record apart from this incident. Not even a speeding ticket, Can I request diversion? Should I speak to a JOP in the community law centers in town or go to court and speak to a free lawer.
-
Op's sorry my bad Dave. I just had another look after what you said, the paper and it said "Careless Driving" - Operated a car carelessly . ShouldI still ask for the free lawer or is it diffrent now? "due in court for wreck less driving". ^ Lol. its a wreck alright.
-
enjoyed reading that, did you write that all by yourself? Its a quite interesting reflection on the subject, I agree with your whole concept but disagree with you on a few notes. The more speed the lesser reaction time, and different laws of physics would apply in an aero plane where it has the whole sky to maneuver and nothing really to consider an major obstacle, same would apply to someone walking or jogging down park. While I do believe some speed limits, signs etc are required to establish a ground foundation for the system for a larger population; I also believe this should be done within reason, as you say, not all drivers and cars are made erqual. I could understand a M5 cursing at 150/kmph in a open stretch of the highway away from other less capable cars or willing drivers but I wouldn't want to see it doing 200km + and beyond. Something like that should be taken to the track really, However I think a lot of the upholders of some "silly' laws subconsciously believe what you write but just won't show it. That said you should try to submit this piece to some news paper or something, see if they would publish it. Matt also has a nice point there with the "capitalist consumerism", couldn't agree more. a little something that happend to me this week: I live in the "winterless north" well I say don't buy into that term, the rain makes up for the chilly seasons. The police up here are usually few and far apart and a lot forgiving then those in big city ego trip criminals in uniforms you will come across in Hamilton, Auckland, Wellington, who walk around with a chip on their shoulder and have this "US vs THEM" mentality, just for wearing an unform that is given to them for upholding and enforcing the law. Not to become arrogant twats who think they are some big shot making up the law as they go by. Back on the Subject, We have plenty of open roads as well as long stretched relaxed highways through the country side, I admit when I am by myself in open roads or highway lanes with other cars far apart, I do find myself speeding over the limit, maybe I do 120 on a 100 limit highway, sometimes 140 for a brief while, or maybe 55 on a 50 zone. But usually i back down on the gas when I see my speed and avoid doing anything like that near populated areas and in the city. Only in open rural roads or highway when the opportunity arises, but I am not one of those ass hats who change lanes every 5 seconds. I have never had a speeding ticket in my entire life(and I have been driving in NZ roads for a decade now. Well recently I was going down a rural road just 2 km away from my home, I often go down this way to avoid traffic and its pretty straight, calm with a few twisty corners. All of a sudden it starts raining, as I enter a corner something goes wrong, my car slid, hydroplaned and as I tried to counter steer and firmly apply the brakes it did a 180 degree and ended up sliding down into a bushy ditch 10 feet away. A tourist saw me from 1km away, he came by and we called the police, it took them an hour to get there, I reported it and called a tow guy to tow me out. Turns out one of my rear tires blew which probably added to the slid. The officer takes my report, draws image of the section of the road and then says hes not going to fine me or give me any demerits on my license or anything but he doesn't believe my story and he handed me a paper "Due in court for wreck less driving". Guy said I should probably pled guilty since If I pled not guilty they are going to keep calling and bothering me. So now I am due in court next month. I really dont think my end was heard and find the whole process just more waste of tax payers time and money. I could have just called a tow and not report it or they could have sent me a ticket instead. Anybody here had a similar experience of getting called to court for putting your car in a ditch? How does the whole process work? Should i just pled not guilty to the registrar? Does a Judge see you in front of the jury and lets you explain it?

how much do you want? pictures? thanks

I bought my first smart phone 2 months ago. paid like $70 on sale. was expecting to pay $500 since my friend paid 1k for his Ipoop, but this is not a apple ipoop. its a simple phone that has a good battery life, a gps that helped me traveling to auckland and a mp3 player. i rather drive or go read some news then watch tv. I dont hate technology, its just that i dont like too much of it, makes people more carefree and drift away. there is a feeling in a paper book and a desk lamp you just cant get, no kindle for me.
-
sorry for thread jacking but there is a decent S50B32 M3 on trademe for 15K. Not bad but I dont want to spend that much. Where are you guys getting M3's for 8K? does that include all the shipping and import duty charges? whats the condtion of the cars, interior/exterior? fill me in. i wont mind increasing my budget a bit more. few years ago when I was in the market for a S50B32 swap everyone wanted around 12K for the motors
-
Yes. I am a lot like you but more of an technology dinosoure actually. I prefer to read books but not in kindle. just cant stand reading books on the computer/iphone screen.

I saw some dyno results with the m50 mani + m3 cams + a chip (which regains the bottom end torqe/power you lose when getting the mani). Wasn't there a member in this forum "wayne" who made custom headers for a resonable price? Redline performence seems to be asking a lot more for the remus systems then they should. Are you guys with custom exhasts + headers on these cars really noticing the diffrence on the top end? (apart from the sound it cant be more then 5 - 10HP combined with a better cold air intake then the bmw factory one(which already is a cold air intake as it shields the filter and takes the air from the front nose ofthe car). I have heard of the golf T mod and gutting the exhaust but results varry and a good muffler would sound better. What are the muffler options on these cars? @eagle I am looking at a few e34's too, looked at this ad http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=680546813 - real nice car, thinking to make him an offer but looks like I have been beat. If anybody got something within upper north island and might consdier selling, let me know. my budget is not written in stone so maybe we can work something out.

I know "is" stands for sports but I didnt know an 328 "is" existed. my car is an "is" and it has the LSD. I thought motorsports was the "is" standard on these cars? What the diffrence between motorsports pakage and "Is"? would the "is" have the LSD but motorsports wouldnt? I am going by the condtion of the cars, that red car seems to be in better condtion, and with more options and the owner (a woman) said she had her car for 6 years and she had it serviced from the same garage and has all the service records. I am yet to hear back from her regarding few of my other questions. but i might just take that and have the LSD put in.How much do they usually charge to put in the LSD for you if you buy it from them. Do they do a good job with new bushings, fluid and everything? I can do it at home but its a couple of hrs work so rather have them fit it. How much did your exhaust set you back? from reading these cars dont benifit too much from exhausts and intakes unless you put the m50 mani and m3 cams. Too bad I missed out on your car. how many K's did it have? you know I probably wouldnt mind going that far if the car to me was really worthwhile. I am intentionally keeping my budget under 6k since I know I will be doing some suspension maintenence and work to it. oh and happy new year.
-
I found another one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=679903824 Blue 328i motorsports with less K's and issues then the red one, says "imaculate" condtion and its also in the same Waikato region. Its a 1995 so probably should have LSD since ASC wasn't yet introduced, But I will ask the owner to jack the car up and check for me. no sun roof though. the red feels (looks) more agressive for some reason, dont know why, (maybe because lowered?) What do you guys think between the red and the blue one? edit: the blue isn't listed as a motorsports, only motorsport suspension. heres a comparison of both.

really? I mean I never thought 91 was so bad! I have always used that stuff and I maintain my cars myself. never had any issues. But it does make sense 98 would be more refined and thus "better", In the US they are still using 87 Petrol to run these cars as daily drivers. I do find it hard to believe these cars would have any problem runing 91. Is it also true once you start using 98 you are never supposed to use 95 or 91 again? One of the reasons I dont go up since i dont know if all stations carry 98.
-
Yea I did some reading on that. sorry I have only been driving older cars previously and had my 318is for 4 + Years now. it had LSD and would do great in corners. Without LSD I dont see it being much fun around corners or to try drift around tracks) I dont know I guess they both have their advantages and disadvantages. But most pre 96 cars would have LSD. maybe before I make long trips I will ask the owner to lift up the rear and spin the wheel for me and report of they both spin in the same direction(LSD). Saw a 3.2 euro m3 on trademe for only 15K. but I am not looking to spend that kinda money. Was hoping I would find some well maintained, lite modified e36's here for sale, but seems the scene is dominated by e30's (which is not bad thing by any means).saw some really nice e36's on trademe few months ago, nothing now.
-
its the food. they are putting something in your food (read halucination agents) that is making you think the car is going fast, while its you gaining weight in your right foot. I know first hand from eating stuff from gas stations. never again. I use 91. Friend uses 98 and said his car runs cleaner/smoother. But I dont think its worth the small diffrence, maybe when I own a better car, maybe then I could justify.
-
Thanks. I am still looking and probably will do the entire month next year. I see both your cars are Auto, how long did you wait for them? Dont see many decent ones these days for sale, and if they are decent they will be ASC + Auto. Have some exprience having trimmer do my headliner before, however door cards nobody wanted to touch so had to swap them out with some mint ones. (can fix most of the cheap cardboard with wood glue. I cant Decide higher milage NZ New Green Msport Manual with LSD or lower milage Jap import Hellrot Red msport Auto with Open Dif/ ASC. Having the car swapped to manual and LSD will probably run me another $1800 ~ $2500.

true words jamie, at the end of the day the car is worth how much I am willing to pay for it. Whats up with the gay Traction Control / ASC I am reading about? That red car and newer e36's (1996 above) has this ASC System which controls the throttle? I am supposed to remove it otherwise it will cause the car to crap and cut power around corners while tracking or making it more dangerious driving in the rain? It rains a lot here, we got a lot of twisty rural roads where I live and I have had my car hydrolock once in a curb and slid down the road, had it towed that day(some body work and dents). Do I gotta bugger around with ASC delete from the throttle if I get newer msport?? some some diys that say cutting ASC also deletes ABS and other fancy breaking stuff which is also not good. edit: fake m3 (328i riced out a bit registered as m3) http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/328i/auction-680085474.htm ^low k's. decoded vin says its got msports pakage and suspension.

Okay so.the woman got back to me about the Red msport BMW. think it might be a genuine msport with the xbrace and stuff, the car seems to have a few small problems, like she had to replace a lot of sensors over the years(she owned it for 6 years) and the Gas Gauge has stopped working. So possibly the 2 sensors (in the fuel tank) and a new oil pump. here's her email. I dont know but waikato is about 700KM Trip to and back for me, I would hate it to turn out to be a leamon (as I have had bad expeience dealing with female car owners in the past) they always say they had a child or something like that(like on that black bmw). But to be honest I am kinda considering this hellrot, since I should be able to do most small jobs on my own. But I doubt it would be worth it at 6.5K. Maybe somewhere around 4K -4.5K would be better?
-
Thanks for the links, I am watching some of those cars, I like the red 328i more then the green one and waikato is just close to auckland. But I wonder if they are genuine msport packages? I mean not just the m bumpers and side skirts, but the m sports suspension and xbrace? is there anyway to find that out? I tried usinng this site for decoding http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/ but its usually a bit confussing and requires registration. Vert is crossed out. I decided if I cant find a decent 328i coupe to have some fun at the track then maybe I will have to go 4 door, in that case how about a 7 series. A lot of them seem to be on trademe for the price of a 328is. between 4.5 - 7K seem to be the asking price for most. maybe a sport 740i would do me better, something like this. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=648548932 ^ Do any of you know the car or its owner or seen it around? (Sorry, I was reffered to this place by a neighbour and been lurking these forums for some time before I joined up, seems almost every bmw owner or enthuasist in NZ is a member here) I will keep looking and report back as I go. currently thinking a good 7 series 740i sport route over the avarage molested 328i m spec one. I also have a thing for E24's but thats not going happen any time soon.
-
Hello, I am watching your car on trademe, I dont live in auckland but plan on coming to test a few cars, mostly looking for e36 msport cars, but may consider a 7. The price is also a bit off my budget but maybe we can work something out.
-
yep, you are right, same car. 328iM3. Was sold on July this year with new plates. What things I should check? I wonder if there is something wrong since the guy is selling it less then 6 months later. And now hes asking 5.5K. Maybe I better start from $3000 and go up. as you considered buying it, Did you get a chance to view that car and take it for test drive?? I plan to learn manual if I get it, so would help to know if the car is good for a daily driver and strong for a future project? I am no fan of green, prefer white, black, blue or red cars really. I still consider the vert for that but 1. verts supposedly slower due to more reinforcements to prevent flex causing them to weight some 100 - 200KG's more. 2. the green car has full msports kit which means suspension and the xbrace! 3. verts are a safty issue if my car rolls over. 4. the coupe has a sunroof. a little story of why I am hessitant: I have been burnt before on trademe. a recent incident was a few months ago i came across a 328i automatic with only 128,000 KM's, Car was advertised mint (like that shitty black car is) guys wanted around $3000, I went all the way to him in his workshop in central Auckland and he never showed up, stayed half the day and came the next day and found the car had rust in the rear quarter and the spoiler. engine wasn't very responsive and the interior was falling apart. not cool. Really like that while e30, the price is good too. I like e30's for the retro musscle car style front, but really prefer a e36 for its refined yet retro looks. as for the E46, e90 and so on, I just dont like how they all look, boxy and alike haha). edit; sorry your post didnt come earlier. I was really looking for a e36 coupe but may be pursuaded to consider something else. is it a coupe or sedan, auto or manual? may I see some pictures or a link to your listing? are you frim on your price of $7500?
-
what kind of work? m body kit all around? I agree the vert looks tempting, specially the tan leather interior. But is it worth $6000, I mean Since the boston green msport coupe with the same milage is going for a grand or two less. it also has a fine leather interior however a manual (which is a good thing once i get a hang of it). What kind of money should i offer him? automatic vert or manual coup..ummmm.. i am also looking into the 5 and 7 serier (E38 and e39), but I am not a big fan of those yet.
-
I was thinking to get either that or the convert as there aren't many nice e36's in trademe within my budget. However I have seen both of them listed for over 3 months+ now, no takers. Has anybody from here had a chance to view either car yet? How much would you find that green msport coupe worth if you were in my shoes? If anyone around Auckland wouldn't mind checking out the boston green one for me and a case of beers or something, then let me know. Guys number is listed 022 099 1840I I will keep looking. Will be very keen to hear from colin(Kopua Cowboy) and if Anybody else have a well maintained car or comes across something nice, please leave me a message. Thanks. I remember the basics, clutch down, start car, hand break down, gear in, clutch out gas in..But havent driven one since my friend let me drive his many years ago in school. Once I get a manual I will learn on that.
