we have just gone through this with one of our s50b32 engines, our dual mass was naffed.
e
we looked into a lightened kit from nzad but after some reading and speaking to one of ouf engine guys we have decided not to because the lightened flywheels can upset the harmonics of the engines and can cause flywheel bolts and crankss to break along with other stuff
we have had a flywheel made up but have had it machined to the factory weight so we dont cause any issues
to have a flywheel made was not expensive at a little over $400
the person who is making our flywheel has made a lightened onoe for a 328 before and 3 days later he gets a call saying he has snapped the crank in 2.
(this is assuming of course the kit you hhave been quoted is a light weight flywheel)

Cheers for the thoughts guys
It was dynoed in 5th gear which for us is 1:1
It was scanned on a snap on scanner but he is coming back over shortly with the BMW program and we will be doing the Vanos test

howdy all
had my race car on the dyno last weekend and thinks are not looking the way they are ment to...... we are lacking quite a bit of power from where we should be
hatched is the dyno chart
we peaks at 160kw at the wheels
as can be seen on the chart there is alot of hesitation then a huge jump around the 3k mark, from what we have been reading is it possible for that to be a sign that the vanos needs to be rebuilt? 9had the engine scanned afterwards and the exhaust cam is out by upwards of 4 degrees)
also from the a/f ratio we can see that it is running rather rich, we have since had the car scanned and nothing has shown up. we have since found a air leak so have sorted that but if anything we thought that would make it run lean (unless it has put the o2 sensors outside their reading range so it has gone into a "safe mode"
do any of you have any things to check or look at to work out why it is running so rich??
the a/f ratio is between 11.6:1 and 12.1:1 so it is reasonably rich
possible dud o2 sensors, or any other reasons you could think of
we are currently looking at buying our own a/f ratio meter so we are able to keep looking at if things we change/try change the a/f ratio
any thoughts, advice or info that you guys have would be appreciated

we have heard that before about the cast wheels not liking high rpm
we have also thought about making one, we have all our own lathes and mills at home but its just the time factor
this morning we have been in contact with nzad and can get a chromoly 240mm flywheel for $550 so after having a converstion with them we might just looking at buying a flywheel and clutch kit from them
out of interest hoe much did it cost to have the flywheel mad up?
cheers

hi guys
we have been having a few clutch issues on our s50s lately and we have just pulled mine out, the dual mass flywheel has seen better days so we are looking at what other options we have
does anybdy know what the deal is with the m20 flywheels?
we have been offered a m20 flywheel and would like to know what starter motor and thrust bearing ect we have to use
does the m20 have a different clutch and pressure plate to the e36's?
any help/advice is apreciated

hi guys
what do you think about running e85 in a s50b32??
the engines are in our race cars so dont get driven lightly
is it a good idea to run e85? or would we have to have the dme remapped and put bigger injectors and or fuel pumps in them??
any thoughts are appreciated

yip off season plans so far are we are pulling dads engine out to give it a bit of a birthday, arp rod bolts, new rear crank seal, rebuild the vanos unit, possibly a head gasket after this weekend and a full new set of panels and some modifications to the car itself
for my car we will be pulling my graebox out and replacing the clutch as i cooked it in the last race this weekend, pulling the engine out and putting arp rod bolts in mine to, a full new set of panels and get both of them on a set of corner weight scales oh and we will be putting some graphics on both cars for next season........ with a 3nz on mine somewhere

Haha yeah...... That's the 5th one we have bent this season, they are the weakest point in the front end and bend relatively easy

Picked up my new flywheel yesterday
We will be using a sprung disk
It is only a 228mm flywheel as we have a dprubg disk here for it already, we are also having a pressure plate re built and up rated
For us having the 240mm flywheel didnt really achive much, we are only running on clay so there isnt as much grip as a seal track,
The guy who made it was from dynamic engineering
