  1. Thanks man! Yeah i should start sourcing the parts slowly, the E34 sump, pickup and dipsrick is needed right? Im sure i can rustle up the help to drop the engine in there, its just wiring that im sketchy on. I really do want to get this done, the M20 is slowly dying on me and having a M50/52 B25/28 i think would really just make it a perfect car. Thanks for all the help so far!

If anyones done the swap keep the tips coming!

  2. Hi guys,

Just wondering how many of you guys have done a M52 swap on your E30's. Im seriously looking into it, ill put up the E46 hopefully this summer and get it sold so i have a bit more to play with when it comes to this. I have been reading around and i doubt i can do this with the resources available to me, but it would be ideal and make a great project. Problem is, it cant be off the road for long!

I have decided first step is to get the M20 currently in there manual converted with a Getrag 260 which can later bolt onto the M52. I have also asked about a ljet to motronic swap, but is it best to just leave this till the engine swap time comes around? I couldve bought a manual E30 and skipped one step and saved a bit of money, but im in too deep now. I like this car way too much to even consider getting another just to make this whole process easier.

I just need to look around for a M52B28, the plan is to get that and slowly work on it, then when the time comes hand it over to someone to do the swap. Although what would be ideal is, have someone that has done the swap show me and i would love to work alongside to see what is actually needed and how it all goes together. I feel confident in doing everything BUT the wiring which seems like the worst part. The car will be a DD and it would be nice to have a bit more power and reliability than the ghost kms M20 currently floating around in the front of the ol' 323. Thought about a stroker for it, but the M20 is getting a tad old and tired now, i have been babying it since i got it, but thats been about 3 months out of close to 30 years of unknown history. And reliability is key, the M54 in the E46 even though its just the baby B22, has an awesome feel and sound. And has been pretty reliable so far, touch wood. And no, no boosting please.

Sorry that this has been less of a question and more wanting opinions/guidance/experiences from people who have done the swap. I just want to know what its like to live with and what in entails. As much forum surfing as i do, its all overseas and it would be nice to have some Kiwi input on the matter. Rough costs/time, any information you or anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Give Ray a ring at Hell BM - he will have the info you need.

Yeah i might do, just dont want to annoy him to much. I already got a quote for a manual and motronic conversion from him for a gauge on how much itll be, i will get it done but just not right now. But yeah i might give him a call and see what Ray suggests.

  4. Hi guys,

This is more for curiosity than for anything else but there are numerous threads on stroking M20's. But hardly any information on stroking a M20B23 with Ljetronic fuel system.

Any ideas on what would be nessesary to do this? Im curious because our American counterparts have M20B25's all round and they seem ready for stroker kits wothout much extra work.

Any help/insight would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rohil

  5. Im looking to buy some cheap lowering gear ie shocks and springs for an e30 if available. Also looking to trade my bottlecaps+cash for basketweaves with tyres. Also looling for an aftermarket adjustable sway bar. Annnd one last thing, a sump guard (skid plate) this is all for a pfl E30 with a M20B23 if it makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Yeah its in the 323i Jon. Its quite short so i have tried looking for any missing connections in its general radius but cant find anything. The coolant level sensor on top of the expansion tank connects to another connector, but the mystery wire is coming off that connection if that makes any sense. Ill take a photo tomorrow when its light, to try to illustrate this better.

  7. Hi guys,

Another HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO AND MY CAR WILL EXPLODE ON ME question.

Well i got the e30 and it had a few flashing check lights on the overhead panel. I quickly fixed the wiper fluid one (no wires were connected -_-) but i cannt seem to fix the coolant light.

There is coolant and its green which is great, but i have found a connection just dangling in the engine bay and i was wondering whether it has anything to do with it? Its around the coolant tank and has a short wire so i assume it couldnt have come from anywhere too far. I cant seem to find anywhere for it to go into. Any ideas?

Also car is a pfl if that matters. Ill attach a few photos.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

  8. Hi guys,

I really need some help with my e46 dash. So for the last week its been turned on and left to run twice as iv been driving the e30 daily. And today i was walking past it and noticed all the dash lights on, so i go get my key to unlock it and see whats happening but the lock/unlock doesnt work from my key.

So i manually unlocked it and sat down to see what lights have gone off (attached is what i found).

I turn it on and everything is as per normal, then when i turn it off its back to the dash light circus.

I am yet to drive it but will report back and hopefully it drives okay since i booked in a service preemptively and was not expecting it to screw up after just a week of sitting. I have encounted limp mode before and hope it doesnt happen again.

Any information or help would be GREATLY appreciated

    Thank you in advance!post-51605-14100506343961.jpgpost-51605-14100506468383.jpg

  9. WElcome to the forums and the Bimmer bug.. Looks like you've been biten good..

Nice couple of cars you have there.

I'll look forward to seeing the pics and topics as you progress with your E30.

Yeah the E30 atm just got a nice service, leaking a bit of oil out the front, probably should tend to that. Im having dark thoughts about stroker kits, the dark part being the cost. On the up side.YELLOW HEADLIGHTS AND FOGS!
