  1. Dad went through this same process/decision earlier this year... Range Rover Really nice inside but if you ask round some Euro machanics they always have a range rover coming in. I think its because they have so many features that there's a lot to go wrong. Touareg If ya watched Top Gear last night, ya would have heard Hammond say that the Touareg was a hopeless peice of sht. Mostly because of the useless ride and rubbish handling. Q7 Couldn't afford one but just after looking at em they looked huge and heavy. Mercedes ML63 If your've got the coin I think these are your best bet. We drove one for the hell of it and they go like sh*t, and since its a Merc you really notice it when ya hope it and the whole build quality like in the BMWs. E53 X5 4.6is Might be a bit bias here but these have a real good write up. Better than the 4.8is... First this one has a lot of gear of a M5, brakes, cluster, heaps of small crap i can't remember. But watch most don't know is the engine is actually an Alpina motor. Not like the 4.8is which is a normal V8 ( not normal but not as good or as rare as the 4.6is ) Got all this information from Gerry Rodgers ( BMW Car club president ) He had the car before we got it... If ya wanna PM I have an article from when the car was released has heaps of info on it.. Jeep SRT8 This was my favourite. I know its a Jeep but this thing hauls arse. 16L/100kms we got it to 13.3 on the open road. But its also got this cool as computer that you can time yourself to 100 and 1/4 mile times. Build quality is of cause not as good as any BMW but I thought the brakes, handling, and pure speed and coolness this thing had made up for it. got all the new stuff on it and is half the price new of all the EURO alternatives and if you youtube it you'll see it whip the floor with a ML63 in a drag... We got the computer down to 5 seconds to 100 kph, factory says it'll do it in 4.9... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwm6IIBzB_k Cayenne Never went in one but I don't like the interior and just think its ugly and your paying for it because its a Porsche. I got heaps of info and articles on all these cars cause Dad did so much research on this, so flick me a message if ya want some of it. Dunno if that helped....
  2. The owner of the black E30 M3 was a guy called Dean. He is the owner =D
  3. Looked like heaps of fun out there. Sorry I couldn't get out on track James.
  4. No =( Heading to HellBM to get the new alternator on Sunday or Sat if he comes to the track day. =( M3 is long gone, think its for sale on Trademe by the guy who got it off us.
  5. Only there to watch now =( X5 needs a new alternator and won't have it til sunday.
  6. dammmmmm i can't wait. Never been on a track before except the kart track at mt welly!!!! Gonna be great =DDD
  7. is it me or does he sit real close to the steering wheel?
  8. Yea. I always over hear some dead beats bragging on how much piss they can take but there are some of us that don't abuse the stuff, I've never had more than 2 bottles on the same nights and theres more than a few of us like that ay. Raising the age isn't going to stop idiots getting on the piss every Saturday. They'll always find ways to get it..
  9. Recognize that blue thing? Alternators dead. Jump started it and tried getting it down to the closest garage and the whole car died after 500m's like everything the emergency lights didn't even work.
  10. So how many are set to be there so far James?
  11. its the right colour for ya ( match the race car or at least the front part )
  12. Yea. Its gonna be at Gavins for a while it looks so if your there I would really appreciate it. I'll see you at Hampton next Saturday anyway. Ill owe you big time if your right bout this and you scare dad in your car Thanks a lot!
  13. Gavin said needs a new loom. Its under the dash....theres a few bits. He said its not worth trying to fix. One bit is the wires heading to the light switches on the right side of the driver. Sorry im not that good enough to explain this in a way you guys could get what I meant. Yea, I know its not a small job, parts car is all complete so we're stripping it all out then another day we'll do the loom. Just curious is it worth (once both the cars are ready) Dad and I trying to do it ( if so whats the best way to do it) or it is worth it to pay someone else as I would think this is something they you'd not want to fck up, and I can't afford screw it up.
  14. Biggest question so far =D Got ourselves a 86 320i to take a dash and loom out of. Big question is. Is there any chance that dad and I could get the loom out of the parts car and the stuffed loom out of the race car. Then put the good one back in the race car. Is this too big/harder job for 2 idiots if not whats the best way to do this.... Any ideas appreciated. =D Hoping to get it done next weekend or the next.
  15. Heaps left. see you all at hampton on sat =D
  16. Yeap. Never been in a manual m3. But thought the SMG was pretty good, like good enough that it wouldn't put you off the car cause it had the SMG not the manual.
  17. missing a headlight there
  18. Thankkkk youuuuuuuu. Gonna send the car to have the inside painted and get the panel work done, so we can get straight into the inside i.e getting the wiring done. Might be getting a wreck p/fl 320i to take parts off, but will contact you guys when Im up to fixing this stuff. Thanks!!!!!!!
  19. kinda big set back =( So, after it was given a good check, found out that the wiring has short fused and is not worth repairing so need a new wiring loom. =( Dash is ruined. Hard to explain but the whole surface is like its been glued down, and is lifting heaps. So new dash has to go in. About a weeks worth of labour realistically just to sort out the wiring and dash. This is all the stuff we have checked out without putting it on the hoist. So I pray to god that the its a bit better under neath. Gonna cost quite a bit so won't be close unless I win lotto to even make the 2nd race. Good news New battery went in today and car starts and runs well just needs a real good tune. After some advice car is going in to have the inside painted before we put the new dash and wiring loom in. Kinda sucks, that I won't be able to make the first few races let alone get some track days before. All part of the sport I guess =/
  20. Yea, I'd do anything to have someone scare the sht out of my Dad. Anyone up for the challenge?
  21. How would you decide what cars to allow passengers in? Late models only? Car's condition etc?
  22. bump Will have these at the Hampton Downs track day. BLUE X5, ginger with ferrari t shirt. not hard to miss me. Give me a ride in ya race car and you might get a few for free =D
  23. I disagree I thought the SMG box in these were great +1
