If I was mounting one of these as a dash/radio/console, I'd do the no-battery module though.
I have done a write up on how to do that as well but on the n7carputer.freeforums.net forums. but in the end personally for mine I keep the battery in and did a modification to it so it is trickle charging to 85% when the car is off so it is always charged
Don't have a picture of my 2013 mod, but I basically did the same to my 2012 which you can see here

Yeah thats just a digital dash, it doesn't run android or anything. You use them in racecars. We use one in our V8 Touring car

Things I have learnt from my install now 2 years on but in a skyline ,
buy timers kernel ,it converts your tablet to a permanent power state with all the power states needed automatically
reverse camera support proper audio out support etc they have thought of everything and he has great support, pretty much essential and not expensive
much better than fiddling with tasker
buy a cheap 12 -5v power buck from eBay to feed tablet and all accessories like usb DAC, reverse camera, usb drives etc don't muck around with weak power like usb convertor approx $10
research which usb dac you buy , latest android software doesn't support 48kbit any more so you need 96kbit
tablets don't like heat and shut down when overheated so sunny afternoon after work , tablet is dead until you can cool it down by running a/c, very annoying in Hawkes Bay, removing battery from tablet permanently helps so its 12v only, towel over makes no difference, car is just too hot
Mine is permanently wired into original cars stereo amp and speakers so car stereo volume controls still all work, 7port usb hub feeds hidden external hard drive with movies and mp3s
has cheap eBay reverse camera, $25
has extra usb and bluetooth inputs, $20
has cheap bluetooth OBD2 connected $25
has external feed to feed signal from original onboard screen, now removed to tablet so heater controls etc still work
I just realized my post messed up and all it did was quote yours haha. anyway what I said was. I really do need to make this update video because I am using his kernel now (I am actually friends with him) and I am using a n7 2013 now as well. After my exams finish (around the end of june) I will make an update video. because I am 100% happy with what I have now since I dont have any weird issues or any little quirks that bug me. Thanks for your post

@zero thats quite interesting, turns out it's just a tablet (like mine) but it's a app that his ECU made, so it's purpose built which is quite cool!
-
Got any details or the link to that setup? Looks quite interesting, actually quite interested in the screen/tablet
-
May be a little hard to do, but definitely possible!
-
Yeah it's awesome, I have it hooked up to torque as well, and since the other mod is fully custom, you could fully program it to do what you are suggesting. The 7" tablets fit perfectly in the E46, but I mean you could put an iPad pro in which is basically the same size as a tesla screen (Crazy big). People have done that with an iPad pro before, although not in an E46.
The app I use for track days is called RaceChrono Pro. It is an AMAZING APP and I would fully recommend it.
But if you are in the area or at any meet coming up I can show you it all in more detail.- 1

What is the sound quality like?
As good as the stock speakers. So it pretty good. if you want to make it even better, you can just hook up a amp and sub etc.
(Also I need to make another update video as I have changed and upgraded a bunch of stuff) -
Just now, Kepes said:Good stuff Joel, however I think there may be an issue with the link? When I click it, it takes me to this thread rather than to a google doc. Is it just me?
Oops, sorry. I have just fixed it now. Try again

but running it without it connected with my hand over the hole will confirm that this is the problem if it doesn't make the sound, correct?

Will try that when somone else gets home as I need a 2nd set of hands to do this. Will keep you updated

Ok everyone, I have taken my DISA out and tested it and here is the results. What do you guys think? I haven't seen one that has a good vacuum and and will sometimes open fully if not 90%. So I'm not sure what to make of this.
-
Hi, does anyone know what this flappy sound is coming from my 330ci. It seems to be coming from the left. It almost sounds like it could be the DISA, but I am not sure. I also tried unplugging the DISA for a second while the car was running but the sound was still continuing, which makes me think that it might not be the DISA. Does anyone here have any ideas?
Also I have no fault codes showing up when I scan the car. -
Admittedly this was about a month or 2 ago now, but yeah. I have upgraded from a 320i 2001 to a 330ci 2002.
Here is the link to the photos from when I first picked it up https://imgur.com/a/dE6WS
Here is a photo of my old 320i https://imgur.com/7tl9Xph (Which is for sale if anyone is interested)
I am so happy with this car. I have a few little modifications in the works for it, but nothing that will ruin it or change how it looks and I have a few little cosmetic fixes/touch ups to do.- 1

Does anyone have a pinout for steering wheel wiring/controls inside of the actual wheel?
What I am looking for is a power source anywhere from 5v to 12v. It can be accessory or constant, it doesn't really matter too much.
As you can see in the picture there are 2 connectors, I'm not sure what one of the 2 connectors has a power source and I don't really want to prod around too much with the battery connected as I don't want to accidentally set off the airbag, hence why I am looking for a pinout or somone who knows what's what in there haha.
The car is a 2002 E46 330ci
Here is the image from inside of mine:
Why do I want this? Well it will all be explain in a write up when I finish this little project. -
Just an update for anyone interested. I put a radio harness in the back that connected to the old harness then broke out to ISO. then I got a 5m long ISO extension and ran that to the front of the car. This works great and I have had no problems with this and

15 hours ago, Dogballs said:your car has the hi-fi audio system option. The amp is just behind your finger in the pic. The speaker wires go from that plug you are holding to that amp and not to the area in the front that you want. it will take a fair amount of work to either get it working through the amp or by pass it and run a new set of speaker wires throughout the car.. why are you changing the radio? - you can change the radio freq to nz if it is a jap import.. or add aux in/Bluetooth audio if you want that... I have a lot of experience with that set up if you want to call for advice, 0274462763. Dean
Hi Dean. I'm going to move my custom android setup from my 320i to this car
What I will end up doing then is just make an extension and run it from the back to the front of the car where it would normally be as this seems like the easiest option. (it's only 16 individual wires)

3 hours ago, allan said:The radio should be the bottom unit in the boot of your car right hand side.
Found it, but is there a way to get this harness to the front of the car, because right now its in the boot, and on my other 2 E46's (non nav) they are in the front behind the head unit. Is this just an extension to the back or something like that?
-
Where is the radio (ISO) harness in the computer equipt models?
I just got my new 330ci 2002 the other day (Upgraded for a 320i) and I just went to switch my head unit over, but I have run into a problem. I can't seem to find the radio wiring harness in this car.
This is what the connector I am tryting to find looks like
I should be able to plug this connector from my new head unit into that
I cant seem to find that connector.
Can anyone help me out here?
My car has the BMW TV/Nav screen(Actually doesn't have nav in this version)

Hi guys, just an update. I replaced it and it was fine and fixed.
Also @hqstu I have never had to replace the fan clutch on my other e46 (2001)...come to think of it, I don't think I have ever had any problems with it
-
29 minutes ago, zero said:I would do the fan delete mod.
The clutch fans are known to explode and take half the cooling system with them. Some even put dents in the bonnet.
If you are spending money on a clutch fan, better to spend the same money on the fan delete mod.
Engine will be quieter, rev smoother and use less fuel.
So you are just saying I can remove the fan and it would still run fine with the auxiliary fan? Do you have any more information about this?

If you want to do that it would be a few hundred dollars to get a SMG wheel. But they way I wanted to do it was leaving everything untouched which is why I did it that way.
