  1. While the intention was to keep drifting cheapish and cheerful it was hard to not to want something with more cylinders, but as we do i love BMW’s and the E36 chassis’ are so cheap and plentiful.  Only one solution really, engine swap.  This had been on my loose plan for a while, and research showed a lot of work and effort involved in a BMW v8 swap, for not much gain.  So when a LS1 swapped coupe came up with a 1/2 cage and T56 i jumped.  It was a gamble but the price ($12k) was what it would cost me to build one.  Turns out it was rough and poorly done, but the running gear was ok and it saved me 6months of work (add that into the equation and its a win whatever way you look at it lol). So it was chopping, welding, etc to make this thing semi workable for drifting day.

I wish I did have it under control!!!

I think I am going to cut a sliver above the curve of the flare and put in a strip, so it will be subtle and hopefully not to different to stock, its only a few mm out, so if I can avoid a full flare option I am going to take it!!!

Hey mate, did you end up running these wheels?  Would be keen to know how it worked out

  7. Well two years flew by, and so did a lot of tyre rubber.  Quick update...

Brought a 320i sedan and turned it into a quick and dirty drift car while i worked on the 328, finished the 328 coupe and had 4 track days in it.  Lots of fun and loads of learning which i have really enjoyed.   Next up.. more power

  8. Well I guess I should wrap this up as the M3 has been sold, I would have liked to keep it but with a lack of shed space and other interests (BMW related) it was time to put that money to use else where.

It only took 2 days to sell, and the two guys chasing it were the someone who had done a lot of work on it for Charl (two owners before me) and the previous owner whom I brought it off, it ended up going to back to the previous owner.  This is the 2nd BMW ive had that was sold back to the previous owner.  I guess if you find a good one you regret selling it, and im sure I will.

Anyways It was a fun two years and if you have the opportunity to own an E46 M3 I would suggest you jump at it.

Lee, you’ll have just enough time - after selling this - to secure an e30 and spruce it up in time for this year’s e30 Megameet.  Coming to you in New Plymouth 29 Nov - 1 Dec   ?

Lol, there is a super tidy big $$$ e30 build for sale in town, with a rotor no less.  Tempting but my time and energy is tied up with getting sideways these days.

  10. Hey guys,

i have a 528 e39 factory manual that im looking to part with, 191,000 km’s.  ran fine but had a frontal impact about a year ago and has been sitting ever since waiting for me to do something with it.  I was going to use the gbox in my race car but 2nd gear is a bit too crunchy for a race car so I wont use it.  So time to move it on.  Could sell just the manual conversion or the entire car.  If your interested let me know and we can talk about a price.  Cheers

I've struck this before on conversions. Been caught out twice over the years. Some people have lengthened the slave pushrod, but then the fork can touch the clutch cover housing

With NZAD conversions?  I called them up and apparently with their kit you need to install the clutch disk back to front, normally flat side to the flywheel and the sprung hub on the gbox side, but its the other way around with their kit
