Congrats on the sale and purchase, but cant help but laugh at you not enjoying your M3 for risk of damaging it, and then buying an NSX. The NSX is god level compared to an M3 ?

But at the end of the day, its just a car. Fang it and enjoy it.

Yeah it's certainly a strange one to explain!
the Honda, despite having a bigger premium on it, is rough in comparison so i'm not as precious about things like keeping the ks down etc. In saying that, it probably will also fall to the same regime the M3 did haha!
I guess the main difference will be the fact that it is a longstanding dream car for me, so even if its seldom used like the bmw was, I wont feel as guilty (or so I hope!)

Is that a FC in the garage?

Nah, it's an AW11 I had LITERALLY just finished restoring. was a total rotten mess when I got it, we do have an FD though! (i'll post a photo of them all below)

I'll just note that the Honda isn't mine (yet), we're still mid negotiating stuff, so I don't wanna upload anything up for sure at the mo, but once its all finalized i'll put some cheeky pics of it up (i'll slap some bmw stickers on it to keep it "relevant" :P )
Hopefully this will suffice in the meantime!

  2. Day #711

A goodbye to one of the greatest cars I've ever had the privilege of owning, and the M3 sized hole in my heart it left behind

It's been a fantastic couple years, but as mentioned in previous posts, my paranoia of damaging such a beautiful example of a car held me back from truly enjoying him.

the M3's new family came to take him home on Friday. I know it sounds stupid to make a post like this when you willingly sold a vehicle, but its still something that has left me feeling a little sad, however I know the new owner will continue to take fantastic care of this fantastic machine and give it the love and attention it deserves.

I have absolutely loved every moment owning this car, and being involved in the community that surrounds these! Everyone has been so friendly, and the friends made will definitely last!
This will absolutely not be the last time I own a BMW (even thinking of picking up a rougher E46 later down the line!)

I'm sure the new owner will make himself known on the forums/ club soon enough, but I truly do wish him and his family all the best with their latest member!

And of course, for those curious, a very strange string of events has led to an example of the aforementioned dream car being available for purchase! (looooong story, but it's currently sitting in my garage!) so that little goal of "by Christmas" may come a few months early!

    image.png.019131ff7a1f4fafdee0f770fd25da10.png

But yeah, a big thanks to everyone I met on the forums, and elsewhere. I'll likely still trawl through the forums for a while yet, but probably more of a lurker than a serial photodumper/ cheesening creator xD

  3. A little update (for anyone interested)
    Car has unofficially "sold"
An offer has been accepted, and a date for collection has been set. It is a little sad, as I truly wasn't expecting it to sell anytime soon, but highlights of this is I can now look forward to my future automotive dreams/ goals
I've told the new owner about the forum, along with keeping in touch with the BMWCC so hopefully the car will stay known!

Will post a "final" update when the car is collected and everything is official!

The advert looks great. Good luck with the sale. Phew these prices recently!!! Need to bump up the insurance on mine!

Thanks! have since reduced it, but honestly I wouldn't be against it not selling. In saying that I've surprisingly had a fair amount of response, with a couple of smart comments here and there of course! :P

It's one of the best examples out there so GLWS, I think you'll need lots of it at that price though. ?

    Certainly will! I know it'll be a long-term sell
but at the same time it may not, who knows!

also thanks everyone, honestly i was unsure about even mentioning it as I thought it'd be an unfavourable choice especially in a BMW forum :P

    Beautiful car.

    What is your dream car?

The dream car in question is a Honda NSX in manual. I've just loved them for so many years now.
There was a white one that sold for 80k (which I admit one at that price probably wont ever come up again) a couple weeks back and it just flicked a switch. So yeah, giving myself the VERY challenging goal of bringing one in by Christmas.

Though in saying that, The M3 has a very special place in my heart, so tbh even if it never sells i'd still be pretty happy :P

  7. Day 617:
Bit of a bittersweet post today!
I've decided to list the M3 up for sale. It's been an absolute fantastic car, but I've made the decision to let it go rather then stay with me and sit in storage to seldom be used. I've also made the decision to aim for my dream car by christmas this year, so the money I get from this will go toward that little goal!

The car will not be cheap, however I am absolutely happy to negotiate. I would rather take a cheaper price and know it goes to someone who will love it and give it a more permanent home, than to some kid who will just dump the clutch and crack the subframe  24 hours into ownership :P
In saying this, I will not be accepting silly offers, so if you are serious, please keep that in mind.

If anyone is interested in the car, or knows of anyone interested, do send them my way.

  8. Day 470:

Had a bit of an unexpected win this weekend!
With the help of a couple of mates, we managed to turn the red machine into a rolling mirror. The mirror in question proceeded to win "Best Show & Shine Presentation" at the Euro Club meet over the weekend!
The car didn't need much work to be fair, it really did help that the previous owners took such fantastic care of it!

Scored myself a wicked polishing machine amongst other super cool goodies! might break it in on the SO's DC5R ;)
apologies for orientation. Took them for instagram story thing.

  11. @qube well spotted!
they were on the OE wheels, I thought they looked cool so put them on the new wheels.
The std centre caps live in a drawer now

Fun fact: they weigh 2g more than the standard ones, but street rep makes up for the extra baby fat!

  12. Day 355:
One month later, they're finally on the car!
They look even better than I originally thought. Stellar!

Massive thank you to the guys at wheelfixit, and OCD for making these wheels look a million bucks!
I'm kinda thinking about getting some Ti bolts thrown on to finish the look. Still deciding though as the opinion on them seem rather mixed.

the OE wheels will be retired for now. Might make a good set of track wheels in the future!

  13. Late to the party, but +1 on legacies!

BP/BL turbo or 3.0 are both pretty great. though the 3L does tend to suck fuel. They run forever, and do have a bit of punch to em though!
BP (wagon) is certainly the more practical and better option. One regret I had was buying the sedan. was a great car, but my god, the number of times I'd have to borrow a wagon/ ute because it wouldn't fit in the leggy D:<

    pricing seems pretty modest too!

  14. have posted in the forums, so far no success!
That's a very thorough write up! my rails have also caved in a little to rust. I know the coolant lines burst in the car and the previous owner just sat it outside instead of trying to resolve the issue, wonder if that perhaps contributed the the rot?

do you still have your adub? be interested to take a look/ have a chat!

If its an mk1b, I believe the part number is 52021-17021 and may still be available. Mk1a are discontinued.

Looks like it maybe quite a complex part to fabricate, but would be doable with enough time and money.

I believe it is! 87 SC model. I think the facelifts started around 86?
I contacted Toyota last week about various spares, unfortunately this particular part has been discontinued!
might be a couple in the UK, have been told Alex at Moonlight Racing would be a good option as he sources stuff from jp.

  16. Hi all,

A few weeks back I went and picked up my 4th AW11 MR-2. Of the various bits and bobs currently being tracked down, the one that has me totally stumped is a good condition front bumper support bar.

The original bar has a far amount of rot throughout, i'm not sure if it could be restored, or if fabricating a new one would be the best (and cheaper) option.
I'm wondering if anyone on here may know someone/ be able to do it themselves?
Figure the cost difference of getting a new one made up would be negligible vs bringing in one from overseas.

I'm located in Auckland and would prefer keeping local simply due to how much freight may cost, but am open to any options!
Do not have a time frame in mind as car needs to get the rot removed.
Couple photos of the OE bar attached. Also if anyone has recommendations on rust repair in Auckland that'd be grand! (though i MIGHT have found a guy, so pending)

    bar1.thumb.png.d07a25e05fa89ca6bd3300bb6c96ee4e.png

    bar2.thumb.png.8ce18fc466038eac2a56d2a03c2ac0a0.png

Wasn't sure if this would be better placed in "Engineering/ Fabrication" but then its not a BMW, so didn't think it'd be appropriate!

  17. Day 343:

With the tyres removed, and the faces repainted, we're on the final stretch for getting these sexy circle-bois on the M3!
Dropped off to Christian at OCD to get them ceramic coated, then I believe another few weeks to let it cure and they'll be ready for the rubber to be put on and slapped onto the car!

The guys at Wheel Fix It really did nail the paint code, the cost for them to be repainted was just shy of $600. They advised the wheels to sit for a couple weeks to let the paint settle, before going about the next steps.

good choice on the wheels. did you get them from jervis?

they are a rare style that comes on some e9x m3's and slightly different to the more common style 260.

ferric grey is the right name and i think looks better than black!

Yep! collected them off him yesterday!
Just got the tyres off, definitely gonna keep the grey. Thank you for confirming!
admittedly the only car ive seen these on was Christians M3.

  19. Day 310:
Call it strange, but I find it oddly satisfying to count the days I've owned this European brute!
Few updates from the last post.

150000ks. I guess you can say my car is officially worthless.
    No photo description available.

Attended the dyno day hosted by @HELLBM at Torque Performance. Managed to score 193.1 kw. I've been told its a commendable number for stock, but still. MORE POWER NEEDED.

Lastly, picked up a set of Style 219's over the weekend. The scuffing is pretty minor, but its enough to irk me, so currently getting some quotes back for repair/ repaint. I did briefly juggle the idea of painting them black, to match the rest of the car, but after a second look (and external opinions) I think keeping them the OE colour is best.
From looking online it appears the OE colour is "Ferric Grey", though there are comments that Space Grey might also be an option.
