  1. I've ordered a K&N Air filter(already got the sticker lol) and engine undershield from ebay tonight. Both were good deals and, being brand new, hard to pass up.

Got a cabin air filter locally too so will be popping them all on when the ebay bits arrive.

  2. I've only had good experiences at Page European and can give them a recommendation.

The guy I bought my previous bmw off, a e90 325i, had it serviced with them and recommended their work so I brought it to them and had no issues.

I've also had my 130i there 3 times(service/diagnosis/diagnosis & repair) the most recent being for two weeks and they went above and beyond

Now my experience has all been with recent BMWs, and judging by what's in their workshop when I've been there that's their bread & butter work.

    Time to chime in.

My "140" started life as a 118i pre LCI. Running an M3 rack, all M3 suspension components ,KW coilovers with 135 hubs/Brakes front and rear. M3 dif and all rear M3 susp. components.

Pre LCI 130 steering rack is far superior to the  LCI Active steering option. So much better feel to it.

I rate the 130 highly enough to have put a few friends and family members into them.

Have a several E82 135`s and E87 130`s at Hellbm atm for parts and projects.

You wouldn't happen to have a MSport bumper on any of them to fit an e81?

    Or an engine undertray ?

Ive seen one company (penrose somewhere?) offering a N52 tune, claimed something like 300bhp which sounds pretty "optimistic" :D Interesting to see the results though, nice car.

Lol most ones I've seen were in the region of 15bhp increase. I don't really think it needs a whole lot more power, but altering the throttle/gearbox response and tuned for 98 would likely make a great drive feel even better. At least that's my thinking.

  5. Imported last year this is my new ride. It's the second BMW I've owned, my last car was a 2007 e90 325i M-Sport in Le Mans Blue.

I looked for a new car for 6 months, initially I wanted a 335i coupe but drove a 130i and was immediately sold. The handling and power was so much fun I immediately switched to looking for LCI 130i and found this one.

It's an e81 130i M-Sport with less than 50k kms and a beige leather interior which is basically mint. There has been a couple of things done to it, wheels and tyres replaced by what I understand is the newer 1 series 17" wheels and 245/45 tyres.  It's just had a ceramic coating and detail done, paint does look pretty good.

Been a wee bit of drama in acquiring this car, when it turned up it was not in the condition it was described and driving it has revealed further issues. That is being dealt with through appropriate channels.

It's a bit of a WIP now, so we shall see how far down the rabbit hole I go.

I've had a few things mechanical and electrical fixed on it recently, it's been at Page European twice for diagnosis and repair (shout out to them for being awesome and helpful). I had previously given it a good clean and repaired a non functioning fuel flap, not much but electrical is a bit beyond my skills. It's also been at Winger BMW for a battery cable recall replacement.

    Recent work at Page:

    - Trans service/fluid replacement

    - Oil change/filter

    - Vanos Solenoids replaced

    - Gaskets replaced

    - Door Rubber replaced

    - Various electrical repairs

    - Steering angle sensor fixed

I plan to change the cabin air filter and regular air filter then drive it for a while. There is still various bodywork bits to fix to get it mint(minor stuff like underbody motor shield, light covers in the boot, jack points and major bits like bumpers) but mechanically it's top notch now and I'll need to save up as the car fund is a bit depleted currently.

Stuff I had originally planned to do to it:

    - 18" wheels preferably Msport or BMW

    - LSD/suspension down the road a way

    -  A tune of some description

    cheers

How much did this cost? Did you supply the key? I want to get a spare done as well

  7. I've got an e81(3 door) 130i, haven't had it long nor driven it more than 500kms, of mostly heavy right foot driving testing it out. It's a lot of fun, comfortable and quiet plus spins the tyres when you really want to ? My average fuel economy is around 10L/100km under what I would consider heavy usage.

I see 6-7L/100km when driving on the motorway. So it's a pretty economical motor when driving normally. My car is not on run flat's either which may influence fuel figures and definitely influences ride quality/handling. The 130i rides way better than my e90 325i which was on RFTs and handles/drives much better too. They're like a grown up go kart that is comfortable to be in.

As someone who looked for a while before buying and test drove a couple,  I'd suggest the LCI model which is post March 2007 production. Much better interior and more fuel efficient than the earlier models. Mines a MSport which imo looks miles better than the base model, but they do have a stiffer suspension set up. I don't have any issues with it but something to be aware of when you're looking.

punch in your vin to realoem and compare with a e87 to see if it is interchangeable?

also try the dealers, something like this could be cheaper than expected

I asked at Winger BMW and its $430 for a new one.

Thanks for that realoem site it's super useful. According to realoem page below its interchangeable from an e87, though there is an extra part for Msport attachment. Presumably from the different bumper shape, so I must already have that part on my car already.

Using the part number I found this on ebay, likely to be cheaper than getting one from a wrecker too.

I got mine from Birds in the UK, has Kayne Barrie motorsport rebuild the diff with the LSD centre installed. Totally changes the character of the car for the better.

I had a look on Birds website, from your build you got the 2k quid kit? I'm putting it on the wishlist! I'm guessing once I get to a track day or two I'll be quite keen for the upgrade.

Welcome :) I saw another 130i in the car park at Countdown Botany the other day so you’ve got at least a couple car-buddies in NZ :)

Could potentially have been this one if it was black? I know there was a white one with stripes on trademe.

Also since it’s a 2008 build, if you haven’t already, make sure that you get updated to the latest software (2013 or later) so that you’re not exposed to that OBD bypass that lets people steal your car with a dummy key fob. Mate in the UK had it happen to him :(

I'll ask Winger about it, or can I upgrade that myself? They did a battery cable recall but didn't note any other bmw fixes.

the wheels are indeed from the F20, our 116i has these wheels. if you feel like changing to some 18" wheels let me know, i got a *few* sets of wheels for sale... haha

I thought so, I do like them but have thought about getting some 18" wheels. Send me a link or pm about them ?

    Welcome Dan, fun car!

Do subscribe (follow) the Wellington meetups room, plenty of runs/meetups/BMW Club monthly pub night (Bimmersporters always welcome)...

Looking forward to seeing your progress on this, and hope to see you at an event soon.

I have been looking at that already hah, I go to the British/European car show every year so will definitely be there with the car!

Will look at the other events as keen to get some miles on the car as I haven't driven it a whole lot so far.

take a look at @Jacko's thread here

I'm not that skilled with a wrench to do that all myself, epic read though. Definitely on my list as an upgrade, along with a new air filter and a tune.

Awesome, E81s are very rare here, yours is the second Ive seen. UK/Singapore import?

    Step 1 with a 130 : LSD ;)

    Edit - Singapore - https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/ve72044

I've read about 130s and putting in an LSD, do you have any info about getting it done in NZ?

I was at Winger BMW today in Welly and the Service dude said that my car wasn't available for sale in NZ. I didn't realise it was that rare, is there any site to see how many of a particular model are in the country?

Singapore import, still got the toll meter onboard XD

  11. Hi all,

Since I've been browsing here for info I better sign up and introduce myself/my car. It's the second BMW I've owned, my last car was a 2007 e90 325i M-Sport in Le Mans Blue.

I looked for a new car for 6 months, wanted a 335i coupe but drove a 130i and was immediately sold, reminded me of my old 3.2 A3 which I loved and funnily enough my old Celica. The handling and power was so much fun I immediately switched to looking for LCI 130i and found this one.

It's an e81 130i M-Sport with pretty low kms and a beige leather interior that looks way better in person ;D Super comfy and a hoot to drive. There has been a couple of things done to it, wheels and tyres replaced by what I understand is the newer 1 series models wheels and 245/45 non run flat tyres fitted. Its also got a Supersprint back box, sounds fantastic when you boot it.

Got some things I want to do with it so will be a WIP for a bit.
