Thanks! Definitely is one of the nicer ones left. Hoping a bimmersporter buys it because then I'll know it will stay in good shape.

Hi guys,
Thought I would make a post on here about a car I am selling as I think some Bimmersport members may find it interesting. I like to think of it as a budget Audi RS2, with one less cylinder and one more turbo.
2003 Subaru Legacy E-Tune S Edition
S Edition is very rare and was made to conclude the 3rd generation of Subaru Legacy. I can't find exact figures (as most info is in Japanese as this car was JDM only) but I read somewhere it could be as low as around 600 Wagons produced. The presence of the S401 Legacy in Sedan only format means the S Edition Wagons are probably the closest you will get to an STI flavoured 3rd Generation Legacy Wagon.
S Edition got:
- Factory Mica Blue paint (Same colour as you will find on an STI)
- Factory 4 Pot front brakes and 2 Pot rear brakes (Like a WRX)
- Nicer interior with half leather seats, black headliner, aluminium pedals etc. (Interior is surprisingly nice looking for an early 2000s Japanese car)
My car also has:
- Blitz Turbo Timer
- Nicely Integrated Boost gauge
- STI Genome Muffler (Produces the classic boxer rumble but is still civil)
- Alarm
- 2 Keys
- JVC Bluetooth headunit
- Tow Bar
- New Tyres
- Fresh WOF (first car I've ever owned to pass first try lol)
Engine is a 2.0L Twin Turbo (EJ206). Because of the twin turbos it sounds a little bit different to your regular single turbo Impreza (Sounds better in my opinion).
Being a 2003 this car is the highly sought after Rev D iteration of the Legacy. This means it has:
- Better turbos
- Tuneable ECU
- Pink STI injectors
- Revised power band
- Cosmetic improvements (nicer looking grille, headlights, wheels etc).
Rev D Legacies are regarded as a lot better than earlier Legacies and was the last iteration of the Twin Turbo Legacies.
Car is an automatic unfortunately, however it is in really nice condition compared with other ones for sale. I had looked 10 months for a manual one but they have all been thrashed. The plan was to manual convert it but I have too many projects on at the moment and I really don't need another car to sit around. When I got it a WOF the assessor made special mention to me about how tidy the car was. It's quite clear this car has been loved though-out its life, very well cared for and garaged.
I recently had a lower ks engine installed in it by the experts at Subirex. Engine has approximately 188,000km. Body has high ks with 324,000 but genuinely the condition is pretty incredible when you compare it to other ones for sale. Paint has no clear coat peel and still has a great shine . Being such a unique and special colour the car gets a lot of looks when out on the road.
Of course there are many rock chips on the front bumper as well as some small dents and scratches throughout the car (as expected with a car of this age). The plastic spoiler and roof bars have suffered from paint fade.
Interior is pretty nice aside from the wear on the driver's bolster. AC blows cold. Boot is huge.
As these cars are becoming more sought after due to the huge price rises of WRXs and STIs, a really nice manual fresh import Rev D TT Legacy could set you back $15K. Seeing as my one is an Edition S but its currently Automatic and the body does have higher ks (even though it is in good condition) I am pricing it at:
$6K ONO
Get yourself a very unique, bright blue, fast wagon with AWD and a tow bar!

Cool car. I remember seeing this for sale in ~2017.
What's interesting is when I ran the VIN in a decoder it came back as Diamant-Schwarz so I wonder if it was resprayed Mauritius Blau.

Saw an Imola Red E39 M5 with the plate AWSUM5 in Paihia yesterday morning at about 9:15AM. My jaw dropped when I saw it, beautiful car! No doubt the owner is on Bimmersport.

There's an almost identical one for sale for $238K, also in Guards Red... but with a few less rust holes.

If you look at Michael Grant Motors on street view you can see a few cars that seem to consistently be on the yard over the years.
It's absolutely bizarre. Most of the other cars on the yard seem to be somewhat reasonably priced (as far as cheap car yards go) so its strange the same logic never applied to the BMWs.
I'm not an accountant but could the overpriced BMWs that have sat for years that are supposedly worth 15K be a smoke screen for some creative tax returns or something?
Just the space they have taken up from the many years they have been for sale would far exceed their actual value, especially when coupled with the amount of maintenance they would need from 12+ years of sitting in the sun. Probably just worth scrap value at this point.
This E39 Touring looks to be an example:

It's not that we are psychopathic, we are just better than all the peasants who couldn't afford their own Ultimate Driving Machine...
Let's just ignore the fact a bunch of us probably won't be able to buy a house because we sink so much money into our former ultimate driving machines... not psychopathic at all 😅

2 hours ago, Vass said:A mate of mine got pulled up for running those, got slapped with a fine as well, something like $150/200 iirc.
My wealthy older neighbour has german plates on his X5M and TTRS and he's never been pulled up about it.
That said, seeing as I'm young and get the "random license checks" rather frequently they might try get me for it. Although I like the look of the plates so I sort of want to get them and then if they ever hassle me about it I'll just try talk my way out of it.

me too! In the end the “3 letters and 3 numbers” personalised plate option is cheaper by $250-300 than an “any combination” one, and all the good E30 ones are gone 😕 so I went for this fairly lame/tame one.
Remaking is a good idea. I ordered two Euro frame holders: The back one wouldn’t line up with factory holes so just went with double sided automotive tape in vertical strips, it is stuck on. Will go with the car when it is sold. Front one uses the frame I bought.
Yeah fair enough with going for the THE325 combination, spending $999+ is a bit ridiculous when all the good plate combos are gone in general given the vast quantity of personalised plates that have been issued over the years.
Oh right I should probably order some frame holders too when I get my euro plate. Not sure if it would bolt straight onto the E34, although seeing as its NZ New it has the wider license plate surround at the front so it might just go straight on which would be good. I might just "lose" my original government issue plates in the garage because it would be a shame to surrender them. They are so old that when I drive the car at night, according to my mates, the rear plate is incredibly challenging to see and read, which has its bonuses lol.

@E28E30 Thanks for the info, I think I'll end up going for euro plates in the style of the one on your car just with the original "SO9785" combination.
The other reason I can't get rid of the plate combination is that my car has a sister car with the plate "SO9857". Both are 540s and have a difference in VIN of 70 units so would have been close to side by side on the production line. Pretty insane coincidence. The owner has his combination on euro plates which looks good.
The personalised euro plate on your car looks really nice btw! Much better than the MBP520 government issue plate!
I have the combination "DOENUT" but it isn't on any car because I keep getting cars with original plates so would never put it on. I'm slightly obsessive about original plates, whenever someone has a car on original plates, especially one thats like 20+ years old and then they change it I cringe so hard. Unless a car I want wasn't offered new in NZ, I'll always try find one with original plates!

2 hours ago, KwS said:Would lose the OG two letter plate then and end up with a gross modern plate. Only way to remake it and keep it is to get it changed to a personalised/euro plate.
Car is looking amazing though.
Definitely wouldn't want to lose the original combination. One of the reasons I bought the car was its original 1994 combination as I'm quite OCD about original plates for some reason. Both my cars have original plates lol. If you get a euro plate do you have to surrender the old plates even though its the same combination?

Thanks! Yeah the throwing stars make a huge difference. Car drives so much better than when it had the sofa wheels as you can get far more modern tyres on it. The 15 inch BBS look alright they are just way too small for such a big car imo.

You should get a fresh plate - they are like $30 or something.
Yup they are on the list, I was thinking euro plates would look quite good plus the front one can help cover some rock chips which is a bonus

Still has Bilstein shocks so at least there's some German blood running through its Japanese veins. Would love to have a Blitzen sedan one day in red, look really cool with the "m" shaped rear wing.
