  1. haha

yeah if you watch some of the other clips you can clearly hear them shortshift but good on a v8 driver for being only a second down in an F1 car, thats quite an achievement,

theres one clip where going into chase button goes right up/in to the corner and brakes where lowndes brakes v8 style early almost comes to a complete stop and has to reaccelerate to get to the corner, guess the substantially better brakes are harder to adjust to than the power.

  2. Why would anyone want to buy water damaged parts?

Remember that these cars have been submerged in a soup of dirty water, sewage, household and industrial rubbish etc.

Would anyone want to do anything with them except crush them.

suspension, body parts, windows, wheels, axles, badges, bumpers, engine parts like manifolds, diffs even theres going to be a heap of good bits,it wasnt salt,

  3. Not meaning to sound cruel bit do you think theres going to be some bmws scrapped for parts across the ditch. Might be a good opportunity for someone with contacts to start importing some spares. The mess just doesnt bare thinking about really. Once the houses are livable basically every electrical appliance is going to have to be replaced. Imagine the profits Noel leemings are going to make and I bet there will be fights over shortages.Everyones going to want a new lcd plasma within days of moving back in and a car. Give me an earthquake any time,

    poor poor bastards

  4. oh dear ... have another read fella.

    poster is asking about a e39 540i ....

If someone asks what to look for in specific model then your supposed to give honest answers to help,I was told to look for the same things when I purchased mine and to stay away from the four

Cylinder for a whole list of sound reasons,

No one is saying they all fall apart or are rubbish just be aware of potential faults,

Give the poor guy a break

    No car is perfect

  5. The first of series 16 trip to Bethlehem was funny,Poor old z3 was voted rubbish by captain slow so that's not a good look, bet some BMW exec cringed,, I don't watch the American version but I bet they're too scared of upsetting tv corporate sponsors to rubbish anything in USA version, the networks there are so bought

  6. Forum wars

    Long story short:

Dodgy Australian car tuner goes ape sh*t at a forum member for a matter totally unrelated to himself. Members of the forum proceed to bitchsmack the hell out of his reputation (and his wife and daughter). Ninja forum member leaves a gearbox on the guy's doorstep. Cops are called. The saga continues

It's a looooooong read but well worth it. Goes to show you the internet is serious business.

  7. I want to integrate my garage door opener to my 530i, so I am looking for a Homelink UGDO panel.

I know the unit will not work in NZ due to our doors being different frequency than USA, but what I intend to do is modify the unit to operate my existing door remote, so really all I am after is the housing and switches, i do not need the circuitry to work, as I will be removing it !!

Does anyone have one of these by a longshot in a wrecked car ?? Johno, Brent, Ray ??

    Thanks

    post-2173-1292189307.jpg

I did exactly this with my merlin remote which is now inside the roof cavity and wired to the buttons of the ugdo,Got the ugdo from ebay, works great, I left the merlin battery powered and just rerouted the button and led to the ugdo so i could pull it out if the car gets sold or we move house

  8. I know this is a bit of shamless self promotion but over the weekend i upgraded the igo 8.3 software to igo primo 1.1 with green routing. I have found primo a lot better than igo 8.3 and also managed to get my hands on the march of this year release maps and speed cams for it as well.

Thought i might as well come up with a better boot screen for it and this was the end result.

cool I've read they ran really slow with the primo and most people went back to igo 8.3 in the end, great to see it does work

  9. So my final comment on this setup is that the sound of the Pioneer LX60 combined with the POLK RT2000i gives a clean almost clinical sound. There is less volume in the mids with more emphasis on the highs, and overall less power in the base. I would describe the sound with the Yamaha DSPA1 as more relaxed and more warm, and for me a more enjoyable experience. What I didn't expect was signifincatly lower volume. I can listen to the LX60 at plus 12db, the loudest it will go. It however has issues and shuts down for about 10 seconds after a minute of two at full blast. I guess those extra 5kg in the Yamaha were in the power supply and massive passive heatsinks. I guess I've gone from what was a Yamaha flagship model to more of a bottom of the top end in Pioneers range so my comparison isn't probably that fair.

Pioneer can put on all the fancy letters they want but it's never going to compete with a yamaha sound wise ,seriously why do yamaha win so many awards and not on the mags that are sponsored and therefore have biased reviews

  10. diesel maintainence costs are more, buying a second hand is a hugh lottery as they are only as good as the service history, petrols you can guage motor condition quite easily, diesels can bite you in the as$/pocket big time if they havnt kept up with all the proper checks and servicing,

My bro has spent years with diesel injectors/pumps serviceing, courses all over the world to keep up with the latest technology and told me never to buy a 2nd hand diesel unless you have its full history, especially jap as they tend to be more neglected than ever

  11. Because a $200 saving is just that.

so your price included duty or did it get thru ok,

The new hooligan/hualingan models are shipping now and getting really good reviews, still have the full 7" screen and english firm has even got the mid working for full compatibilty, theres going to be a lot of work and customising done to all these wince models in the future

I was a bit concerned that Dynavin changed chipsets in v4 so its possible there will be new bugs that havnt been ironed out yet?no problems with yours?

  12. I am looking at fitting a towbar to the touring for summer, to tow the pop-top B)

Last year I towed it with the 540i sedan, but noticed that I got bulb errors on the display, due to the trailer wiring. It was wired by the previous owner, and was just tapped into the rear lights etc.

I understand that BMW do make a special module to isolate the trailer wiring, but I guess it its $$$$ ??

I have done some research on the US and UK forums, and have come across this system :

    Modulite

Has anybody had experience with this or the BMW unit?

I notice the turn and stop output seems to be tied - is this only for USA cars that flash the stop lights for turn signal?

Any auto sparkies on here who would care to comment ?

it would work by just tapping into the wires, preferably with relays and you just need to disable the bulb warnings with navcoder, this would be the cheapest option and wouldnt cause it to default to towing mode in the auto

i don't think the missing bulb warnings are that much of a loss

  13. at the end of the day it was a mistake,sh*t happens and always will

if it was your 85yr old grandma that paniced, mounted the kerb and drove over them,(does Happen) would you be wanting them locked up instantly for the rest of their life too,

once you get over the frustration of how dumb and annoying the guy is/was its still just unintentional and therefore an accident.

    wrong place /wrong time

  14. I agree wholeheartedly with this. I put it down to the whole 'never speak ill of the dead' mentality. In saying that though, I think that Senna was the best there ever was, even if many of his tactics i.e. blocking are not permitted today.

I think after Schumacher croaks, he will only br remembered for the good things, and the not so good things will be forgotten.

Yeah ive been wondering about this too and I think its more to do with cars and eras, senna lived right on the edge most races and his cars looked like a handful but he seemed to just hold it and some of his passing was brave to say he almost had a deathwish, compared to prost who was clinical and perfect technically so therefore consistant, much like schuie.

When you look at the old guys sitting in goggles back in the 50s on spoked wheels they must have been insanely brave or jackass stupid as well so how could you compare them to now,how would they have gone in a basically automatic ,with launch control and telemetry, some downforce and real tyres like everyone does now

Hamilton is more an athlete built to deal with high gforces and things happening faster because the speeds are higher so reactions have to be better which the old guys didnt have but hes got simulators, health coaches, mental coaches etc,the old guys had jobs smoked drank and helped fix the cars before racing.

I was a hugh alonso fan because he was more like senna but it does seem lately to be more about the car or the money,Ferarris budget just killed the sport for a few years, theres some pretty average drivers on the podiums now because of the car theyre in,button, webber are no way better than alonso ,massa or raikanen was.not bad drivers but whos gonna get excited watching webber,I love that RedBull are doing so well but webber,,come-on

  15. e39 525 auto

last tank got 619km at 9.1/ltr or 11/100km mixture of 4hr trip open road and fortnight of round town to work daily with frosty mornings

was reading that a saving from 15mpg to 19mpg is better than a saving of 34mpg to 44 mpg which most people don't realise

its all to do with percentages gained
