  1. Bumping this. Might go see Maidstone Mufflers later this month about a muffler delete. Anyone got any better recommendations in Welly area?

    Quick rant thread.

Non-reusable hose clamps. I can't be arsed trying to find an Oetiker clamp on a Sunday afternoon.
  3. I got a couple of bits from Jaycar and Iโ€™ll have another run at this in the weekend.
  4. The meter was looking good, had some 12v reads that made me feel like I was on the right track. I'll go over to Jaycar when I can and grab a few bits to have another go at this. I know it shouldn't be this complicated. Thankfully the plug is asymmetrical, and included on diagrams, so it's quite easy to know you're heading in the right direction. In a way this seems way easier, but I hate how much extra wire it takes to go this route, when I should be able to get the mirror taps working. Maybe some smaller taps that I can get a bit further into the plug would help. Thanks for your help guys. I'll get to the bottom of this.
  5. The pin broke off the positive, so I'm a bit stuck now :))) I'll fix it, and try grounding it to a bolt with an eyelet terminal. I think I need to buy a kids' electrical starter kit so I can learn how to process electricity in my mind.
  6. Yeah, noticed this. I reckon some test lead adapters would be quite handy. I've used staples before, and they don't really stay in place. No luck with green/yellow, somehow... Tried in accessory mode, ignition on, the lot. FWIW, I've verified that the detector powers up when connected straight into a 12v battery. Does it matter which side of the plug I use? I'm tapping into the back of the car-side of the plug, as opposed to the back of the connector on the mirror-side. Mirror-side is really difficult to access.
  7. The signal codes were gleaned from the forum post @kwhelan linked.
  8. I didn't have any luck with the multimeter so far. I couldn't find anywhere to ground. I'm scared to use the cigarette lighter again because last time the probe slipped and I needed a new fuse ๐Ÿ˜‚ I found this image, which is helping to make sense of what I'm seeing on ISTA: Seem right? Gonna go fiddle and see if this does the trick.
  9. Thanks Kevin. I'm reading through this thread now. Searching isn't giving me much. I've searched for X18246, and 616035. Nothing gives me a pinout. Cheers for confirming this. I don't know if my multimeter has buzzer mode, I've got this cheapo one here: Medalist | Digital Multimeter 150x70mm Orange | Mitre10 My understanding is that the accessory circuits stay on for 8 minutes after ignition off.
  10. I'm trying to find a 12v and GND wire in my rear-vision mirror to hardwire a radar detector, but I can't seem to get the right wire. I've tried fiddling around with a multimeter, but I'm not certain how to find 12V and GND. I've loaded up the diagram in ISTA and I have no idea what I'm looking at. I was expecting it to give me a pin-out with the voltages of each pin listed. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Is GND always brown? Has anyone done something similar in E60/E63/E64 and knows what wires to use? Might I need to strip the wire for my taps to contact? No laughing please, I'm a total dipshit when it comes to electrical (and most other automotive topics, really ๐Ÿ˜†) Here's a pic of the product I'm using:
  11. Cheers mate, I'll give them a ring and see if the price is reasonable.
  12. That is a lot a of boost.. I hope your N54 can survive ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Got a vid of sound?
  13. Can anyone recommend a place I can jump on a dyno in Lower North Island? I want to get a baseline before an ECU tune.
  14. Haha you and me both. I think $200 is a bit of a pisstake, but I suppose thatโ€™s cheap in the world of automotive! Itโ€™d be great to see an increased uptake. I got a voice alert today for a level crossing today which I was pretty impressed by. People still drive across these and get destroyed by trains, which really shouldnโ€™t be happening in the grand year of 2023.
  15. The V1G1 is a good example of this. Over 20 years old and still keeps up with most units. I downloaded Waze last night, I'll give it a try this morning driving in to town. From what I hear, it's not overly popular in NZ, so there might not be much on there. My main goal is dodging the vans.. Also related: 'Readability issues' with some black number plates (1news.co.nz) Elaborate KiwiPlates ad, or justification for a black plate? ๐Ÿ˜€
  16. I've done a fair amount of reading on this. In order of how much you wanna spend: Uniden R8 > R7 > R4 > R3 > rest. R8 and R7 have arrows that tell you whether the bogey is in front or behind you, R3 and R4 don't, but are cheaper. There are other arrow detectors, such as V1G1 and Passport 360C, but they don't have the same reputation as the Uniden ones.
  17. That's just nasty.. Pretty cool. So you get a few seconds of warning to slow down if there's a gun on you? I thought the road quality was pretty decent. Was it moved down to 80km/h because it was previously shittier? I just assume they do it in high risk areas, and it's hard to envisage any high risk on such a straight and flat road. Where's the closest track around here? Starting to wonder if I should just cruise control 100 and get my thrills elsewhere. Always wanted to get into drifting but haven't got a car for it, and I don't really know any car guys anymore since I left my hometown (Hibiscus Coast).
  18. The idea is that your detector will pick up the officer as he's pinging other cars. It'd be pretty unlucky to be the only car on the road for miles. I'm picking that officers would generally pick busier roads so that they can keep as many people "safe" as possible. Radar jammer? I think you mean parking sensors ๐Ÿ˜‰ On Saturday I drove the 80km/h road between Featherston and Greytown and decided I'd had enough. Absolute pisstake..
  19. 8 years later and I'm gonna necro this thread because I bought a V1G1 today ๐Ÿ˜†

Got a link? I've seen a ton more vans recently. Radar detector might be bumped up the list a bit..

Fellas can we stop doing this?
  24. Barg. Wondered this myself.

    Quick Questions

I'm an idiot. This is the waterpump. For a novice, looking at a pic on RealOEM is one thing, and the engine itself is another.
