I’ve just installed a new supply hose and I’ve noticed the lower hose to the transmission cooler is touching the block. Is this ok? The main connector to the water pump is slotted, so I can’t rotate it away from the block.

Bumping this. My mechanic advised against using green coolant, is there any credence to this? I see a couple of you here use Penrite 7-year, and I've been using it myself before I had my expansion tank replaced and coolant flushed. Do I need to use distilled water to dilute? Kiwi tap water is definitely filled with a lot of sh*t that probably shouldn't go in an engine, but this might also be a bit tinfoil hat.

I'm a sucker for AliExpress cheapies as well. Plastic sh*t like trim removal tools you always wanna get from there. The ones they sell locally are identical and cost 3-4x. Pick tools are another thing I need to grab from there. I've had an endoscope in my cart for a bit but haven't gotten round to doing another order just yet. Got some mates heading over to Japan this month. I've asked if they could grab me a Koken 3/8 socket set. Few things to consider from posts here. I still reckon the Ryobi ratchet looks awkward to use, and would pick the Milwaukee M12 high speed ratchet, and Stubby impact wrench to go with it. Price from Sulco 😭

Ryobi seems nice if you’re doing stuff other than automotive. One+ range is vast. Their ratchet seems too big to be convenient for auto though.

The dream. Garage stud height might not agree though. Seen those Quickjacks? They look pretty good, still like 3 or 4 grand though.

I’m just about to move out of my apartment. Which means I can finally get to work on my car… What are some essential tools you guys would struggle without? I’ve got the basics. Torque wrench, axle stands, hand tools, trolley jack. So far I’m keen to grab: -Cordless ratchet (leaning towards Milwaukee M12 3/8) -Tite-reach -Socket swivels and extensions

I’m keen to get lowering springs for my E63 to reduce the glaring arch gap. At the moment I’m running ET34 and ET39 with 20 and 25mm spacers. The wheels protrude nicely close to the guards. Is there an intelligent way to test if I can lower by 20-30mm? Or do I just need to chuck the springs in and go for a few drives? If it wasn’t an E63 I’d be fine with buying and testing, but may be difficult to resell the springs if they don’t fit safely. Intuitively, any rubbing seems dangerous. Is this true? Those of you with slammed cars and tight fitment, can you turn your wheels all the way, or do you loosen your turns to stop rubbing? I’ve seen E63’s on 22’s, so maybe it won’t be a biggie..

$20 principal is basically paying rent.. COVID really hammered the place. We also can’t ignore the fact that everything we get here has to travel thousands of km across land and sea, and oil is expensive because of endless war.

Feel you. It's slimy. People will defend them saying they don't know the price, and that Tender/auction etc. is price discovery. Any agent worth their salt should know the market and know the price, they're just trying to get punters to accidentally overpay. Sadly, the pendulum is swinging back, and you can only get something half-decent by throwing unreasonable money at it. One of my most liberating moments was when our offer got accepted, and I could delete all the real estate apps and unsubscribe from the 100 mailing lists I ended up on. Thank god. New place has a garage too, so I'll be able to do some sh*t myself instead of paying for expensive labour and NZ-sourced (overpriced like everything else we end up with down here) parts.
