I need to replace my front control arms. Intuitively it seems like I should replace the tension struts as well. Do you guys replace them together when they're worn, or only if needed? Also, if I'm doing it myself (and don't mind extra labour), should I be looking at replacing the bushings instead of the arms? I'd consider taking the arms into a shop to have them pulled out and new ones pushed. This question has been answered a few times on international forums, but I'm keen to know what this community thinks.

E60 platform - Button on mobile phone base plate
arktis replied to arktis's topic in General Discussion
Silver? If so I've already visited that one 😀 got some little bits and pieces including this wee first aid bag. I was hoping to replace the plastic vent on the top of my driver door card, but the thing seems like it's glued down and I didn't wanna ruin the door card for someone who wanted the whole thing. -
Hi guys, Utterly obscure request... does anyone have this button present in their mobile phone baseplate (circled in red)? Mine is missing, and it has always bothered me. I'm wondering if it's possible for someone who has one to let me borrow it so I can 3D scan it and hopefully print one. Price for a new base plate is pretty unreasonable so I'm looking at how else I can scratch this itch 😁 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=EA53-USA-07-2009-E63N-BMW-650i&diagId=84_0876

Part# looks to be 12317542934. Few options I can think of: Search "BMW E60 wrecking" on TradeMe. (Just found at least 2) Try Brent/BMWorld. AllEuroParts for a new/refurb.

It looks like I screwed up. I bought some adapter-style spacers on which the bolts are M14x1.5. I bought them a while ago, and just now noticed that the lug bolts for my wheels are a bit shorter (and 17mm v 19mm head diameter). These are the dimensions for my car (M12x1.5 bolts): I half-attached a spacer to a wheel, and it seems to fit pretty tightly. I haven't tried to attach the spacer to my hub yet because I don't have anywhere to test it until this weekend. My question is, can I still use these, or will it be an issue? The bolt pitch of the M12's are the same, and they fit snugly into the holes on the spacer.

Aids. Makes me realise how lucky I've been street parking my car. There are a couple of little scratches, but nothing like what you've had to put up with. Sorry dude.

🥵 Price was about $169k if I remember correctly.
-
That's a very low price. Do you have a dyno, or are you using a preset to flash the ECU?
-
That's really cheap. I got quoted $1250 today.

I asked about that today too. It seems pretty ambiguous. It seems like: Stage 1 - A tune to unlock factory potential. Stage 2 - A tune with all bolt-ons done. Stage 3 - Forced induction, fuel injection, the lot.
-
After a bit of research, I think I'm gonna do a muffler delete and a Stage 1. If I can find an intake that isn't priced stupidly I'll do that too. How much would you expect to pay for a Stage 1? MHD not an option for me.

If you ask me, it's situational. No one is gonna pull over because they're going 40 on urban streets. You wouldn't get anywhere. On the other hand, if you're driving 50 over the Remutaka's and ignoring a bunch of slow vehicle lanes - you're a prick for not using them. You need to put ego aside when dealing with other cars on the road. If someone is up your ass and tailgating, it's safer for everyone in your vicinity to just let them pass. My mentality is that people that drive like that will eventually bear the brunt of it - let it not be you on the unfortunate receiving end. My girlfriend often says "I'm going the speed limit, why are they so close", to which I respond "Just let them pass so they aren't our problem anymore."

No, this is just standard ute behaviour. Thanks. Hopefully it's a little while before I have to do any of these jobs.

Your steering issues sound scary as hell. I'm kind of keen to deal with stuff like valve steam seals, alternator gasket, coolant transfer pipe, etc. to get some experience, but I'm fairly sure I'm not gonna wanna do it twice. I dunno man, V8's just have a special place in my heart. I think the S65 is the only other engine I'm interested in. It seems worth investing in learning to DIY the N62 because there are so many bargains out there with different form factors - 550i, 550i touring, 750i, X5. Heaps of really good deals because people have been quoted $4k from a dealer to fix one or few of the above issues. Of course it's pretty easy for me to say this - having never done any of these tricky jobs! I've done that. It helped a little bit, but I still made the habit of treating 1/4 like 0 😀

What problems have you had? I’ve read plenty about the usual suspects, but mine is still <80k. How many k’s is yours? Guessing bing bong is CEL.. The only bing bong I get sick of is the fuel gauge whining about being under 1/4 because BMW seems to think everyone who owns one lives in some vast continental mountainscape.

Why is it a shitbox? 😢 That plate looks heaps better than my example. How did you bend it?

When I've got a bit more time I'll yank the camera off and have a proper look behind the JP mount. Might be one for next weekend. I saw a 650i recently that had a trimmed plate and it looks decent though.
-
I had a look today. Looks like the plate recess will pop out - but I've got a reverse camera attached to it. I don't have anything to reattach it at the moment so held fire on pulling the thing out. I still think I'd prefer to cut the plate. I reckon I'll need to grab/borrow a jigsaw to do it. A rotary/dremel might struggle a bit.
-
The JP one will fit. I don’t really like the other markings on them though. Trimming my plate, or trying balancerider’s suggestion will also be a lot more economical.
-
Funny you should mention this today, I was just thinking about it an hour ago. I thought the bigger cavity was Pre-LCI. I’ll have a look at it and see if I can wedge it out.

Tidy looking T2 spotted. I also saw what looked like a 135i - ‘CRBN’ that looked like it meant business. By the look of it, I could tell that there was something mean under the hood. Quite unlike all the E90’s you see with stickers, DTM’s, and M badges. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a member’s car.

Sweet car mate. Never seen one of those before.

Nice, I actually contacted Kiwiplates and they gave me some BS saying it was illegal to modify the plate. Thanks!

Pic from TradeMe. I can't stand the way the E63 rego has to be bent to fit in the cavity. I've considered getting a JP-style plate just so it fits. On the JP-style plate, I don't like the Kanji on a euro. I think it looks good on JDM like S13/180SX/R32, but doesn't suit a euro. Does anyone think NZTA would take issue with whiting-out the Kanji and the numbers? Option B is an M6 bumper. Not a particular fan of chucking a bunch of M parts on a non-M though. And my single tips would look atrocious coming out the back of a quad-trip cut-out 😆
