By the lack of response, I'm taking it that these things were fairly rare? As far as I can recall, it was a genuine Alpina - I had a friend with two 2002s and two BMW bikes who confirmed that at the time. It cost him $35,000 at the time (in 1984). After he got it back on the road, he sold it and, of all things, bought a Subaru Vortex new for $58,000. He kept the Vortex until he died, when my sister traded it for a Honda Civic.

My brother-in-law (since deceased) bought a 320/6 Alpina - I think it was an '83 model ~ he bought it used in 1984? I haven't seen another around since he sold his (he rolled it when a tie-rod snapped - was off the road for a year while BMW NZ & Germany fought over who was going to pay for the damage). As I recall, it was THE smoothest 2 litre 6cyl I'd ever driven at the time. It was white with red and blue stripes. Anyone have one?

It'd drive me crazy. I'd have to get them even....

I have a friend who used to own a tyre shop. He sold me Hankook tyres for my Radisich Telstar. Lasted less than a year - so did the ones I put on my wife's TX5. As he said - you can have good or cheap, but not both in the same tyre. At that time, I was going for cheap....

LOL @ topless Bah Humbug! I've started 5 weeks of holidaze today - whoo hoo. Enjoy your break one and all and stay safe and happy. Don't  and :drunk: too much. After all, if you kill yourself, who will *sic pick on??

I failed a wof yesterday on one tyre. I only buy sets, so I bought a set of Dunlop SP Sports 3000A. (price, noise, treadwear & looks all appealed to me) I'd read good reviews on them for my style of car and driving. Probably would not have chosen them for my old 325, but the 528 is a different animal. Had a wheel alignment done at the same time of course - silly not to with a new set of tyres. Way too soon to gain anything more than a quick feel, but so far, they feel a lot different to the Bridgestones Turanzas I had on before. Quieter (I thought the Bridgestones were quiet, but these seem even moreso) and the steering is quite different - more precise somehow, although that could just be the case with a new set of tyres anyway. I can't find anything in my handbook about load rating, but they're rated at 690kg per tyre. The weight of my car with one occupant and a full tank of petrol (normal operating conditions for me - I always keep my car with more than half full on the gauge - gives me a safety buffer) is 1545kg, so the 2760kg rating of the tyres should be fine. Time will tell, but I'm not at all hard on tyres - traction control always turned on - never squeal under acceleration, ABS so no skid under hard braking etc. I haven't used Dunlops since 1969.

Xmas? Bah! Humbug!

The manual should be available online. I got mine from here: http://www.bmwtips.com/OwnersManuals/ keep on googling...

That screams so much about why I loathe Xmas ....

I've done, also tried other themes - no change - still doesn't allow horiz scroll or full width pix.

I can't believe the state some people let their car get into. There's a 2 year old BMW compact here at work where the front bumper has been hit a few times (obviously needs parking lessons), the front number plate all crunched etc, but he's never bothered to have it fixed. It would drive me mad. I know its only a car, but it has to be as good as possible for me. I guess we're all different...

Is it just my old eyes, or are the kidneys not correctly aligned? The left one looks on the piss to me... Tail lights and chromes, not my style at all, but that doesn't matter one whit - its what rocks your boat, no-one else's!

I popped into PAG on the way home and the guy said they didn't do plastic repairs and sent me off to MPR anyway. Never mind - they've got my bumper now and it'll all be jake by Friday - although my car looks munted without a front bit... turns out it had been repaired before, in the same place, but the guy had only welded on the inside of the bumper, instead of both sides, so it wasn't that strong. He was probably trying to save on painting costs, they think. I'm getting it done right this time and that way I'll be happy.

tsk tsk Andrew. I thought you were hot on using correct English?
-
Yes, I have - I thought it was just me. The only way I can see some larger images is to right click and view picture...
-
Thanks, I'll do that on the way home... Cool
-
Sure. I was gonna drop into Manawatu Plastic Repairers on the way home for a costing.

I have ripped my front valance on my E39 by driving over one of those bits of wood in a carpark, then ripping it when backing out. Its torn in two places about 160mm apart. Has anyone used plastic welding for anything similar? Is it OK? Any idea of price - I guess they have to repain the whole part also? Note - it won't be an insurance job - I'll be paying for it myself.

Getting back on topic - I have no idea who this Kayne is, but if he's a rapper as I glean from your posts, it does indeed seem a strange choice of opening act for U2. I'm sure my daughter will not be pleased... She's 23 and into metal and rock and considers rap to be for pre-teens. Maybe she's too old... mind you, she doesn't much like U2 either, 'cos they're too tame, but she's going along "just 'cos" ... I agree 100% with the suggestion to use a Kiwi band.

Deadening sound where? In a car? From the engine? From the tyres? From the stereo? From the exhaust? In a bedroom? In a garage?

Mate, I can't remember how the hell to do it. May I suggest you bookmark this page - I think you'll get a lot from it: E36 DIY

If there was a blown fuse, the rear side windows would not operate at all. It sounds to me as though the lock switch has failed? You can remove the switch and check the connections...
